Defiance Announces New Lineup
Oakland thrash metal band Defiance has issued the following update regarding their lineup:
"With our first show since 1994 just a couple of days away, we wanted to take this opportunity to let you all know about some pretty major changes in the line-up of the band."
"With our new album 'The Prophecy' completed, and released on Candlelight Records, both Mark and Steev have moved on to concentrate on their primary bands, Forbidden and Skinlab respectively. We want to publicly thank them both for putting in all the hard work and time to help us finish the album we dedicated together in the memory of our dear friend and guitarist Doug Harrington. We wish both of them continued success in whatever lies ahead for them." More...
Ex-Anthrax Singer Forms New Band With Paul Bostaph
In a recent interview with The Metal Den's Randy "Rocket" Cody, former Anthrax lead singer Dan Nelson revealed that he has two new projects underway, including one with current Testament drummer Paul Bostaph, who was also a founding member of Forbidden, long time drummer for Slayer and former member of Exodus. Some excerpts from the interview are as follows:
Rocket: You told me you’re now working on a new musical project. Is it going to be a solo Dan Nelson effort? Or with a new band entirely?
Nelson: "I have been writing my own music. But I am singing and playing guitar in the band Inside Hollow, as well as working on a new metal project with (drummer) Paul Bostaph (Testament, Slayer, Exodus, Forbidden) that is coming out killer! Where is it being recorded and who is producing it? No set studios or producers just yet. We are still in the writing process with both bands."
Rocket: When can fans expect to see it released?
Nelson: "I would say definitely 2010 for Inside Hollow, and hopefully the same for the other project."
Forbidden Streaming "Hopenosis" Song Online
California metallers Forbidden have issued the following announcement about streaming a new song titled "Hopenosis" at their MySpace page:
"It's time for another quick update. It's been just over a month since we released our new song, Adapt or Die, on our myspace page. The reaction was far beyond what we expected at the time. Honestly, we were kind of shocked to hear so much positive feedback. Of course we realize that just putting a song out after all of these years was going to get something going, but not that much. Wow! Thanks to the thousands of people that listened to the song and gave us your opinion. It's only motivated us even more. I guess the spirit of Bay Area Thrash is alive and well after all.
"Since then we've been writing a lot of new stuff on cruise control. It's getting better and we're having a lot of fun creating Forbidden's new music. It feels natural once again. Sometimes these things take a little while to get rolling in the right direction. I mean, it had been 13 years since we'd written a Forbidden song! I think our fans will really like what we're coming up with, it's defiantly pushing us. Russ, Mark, Steve, Matt and myself having a great fucking time!
"A lot of folks have been asking when the record is coming out. Well, first we must settle on a home for the band. That's correct, we have yet to sign or commit to any label. We are getting some offers, but we must be 100% satisfied that we're going to the label that fully believes and is committed to rebuilding Forbidden into a formidable force in today's market. There are still some very good labels out there, even in the climate of industry we now live in. It's just...different. But it is nice to be sought after once again. What I can tell you is that we're aiming to be ready to cut the new record by the beginning of the new year. Ultimately, we want it out by the beginning of the upcoming summer. Sometime before the Festival and Touring season begins. That's the plan we're aiming for! More...
Forbidden Issues Tour Recap
Forbidden's Steve Smyth has issued the following recap of their recent tour dates:
"Well, just made it in the door a little bit ago from our 4 show run with Forbidden this past week. Exhausted, but really glad we were able to go up the Northwest and do this run! Great to see so many old friends, fans, and meet and make new ones as well! And WOW! Amazing response to Adapt or Die, our new song! 16,500 hits in 1 day?! You guys must really like this music we're at work on! THANK YOU for all of your kind words in messages here, and on email as well!!! Glad you like it!
"San Francisco on Saturday the 22nd was a blast- we had Kehoe Nation and Death Pilot join us on the show, and both were amazing bands, really strong and great music. Kehoe Nation has the AMAZING Gene Hoglan playing drums, always awesome to see him play, and Brian Kehoe (MIRV) shredding it up! Dude, you STILL scare me with those chops man!
"We had a great time playing the show! For myself, a little too good a time; I ended up in excruciating back and neck pain the next day, that didn't go away, from our day off on Sunday, until our next show.... OUCH! ha ha But hey, it's great to get back into 'show shape' after a few months out again. Great live response to Adapt or Die, the new Forbidden track we debuted live there that night! More...
Forbidden Posts New Song Online
Bay Area thrash metal legends Forbidden has posted a brand new song online entitled, "Adapt Or Die." You can listen to the song for your self by heading to the groups official Myspace. A message from guitarist Craig Locicero reads as follows:
"Just letting you know that we've finally posted up a new song up for everyone and anyone to hear. 'Adapt Or Die' is just a taste of the stuff we'd been working on for the last few months.
"We're not done writing the entire record yet, just getting warmed up really. But this is where it begins and we want you all to hear it. We hope you like it. In fact, tell us if you hate it.
"Now we let the music do the talking."
Gross Misconduct Announces Vancouver Tour Date
Vancouver death/thrash band Gross Misconduct has been added to Forbidden's only Canadian tour date, scheduled for August 26 in Vancouver. The show will take place at The Bourbon, located at 50 Cordova Street West, and Gross Misconduct is slated to play directly before Forbidden.
“To say we are honoured to play with thrash legends such as Forbidden is an understatement,” said Gross Misconduct guitarist Jesse Brint. “We are looking forward to debuting new material from our upcoming album as well.”
Gross Misconduct is also scheduled to play at the Alberta-based Harvesting Hell festival on Sept. 6, with the band sharing the stage with QUO VADIS and THE DAYGLO ABORTIONS among others.
Gross Misconduct’s untitled sophomore album is tentatively scheduled for an October release date and will feature nine songs and 50 minutes worth of material.
Forbidden To Debut New Track On August 21st
California thrashers Forbidden have issued the following update about recording new material and debuting a new song online on August 21st:
"What may seem over due to all of our long time fans, was like a lifetime for us. We just completed the first demonstration of any new Forbidden songs since 1996! Phew...that's quite a sentence for me to type.
"Everybody in the band is very excited about the two songs. All of the guys did a terrific job. The 'new' dudes, Mark and Steve raised the bar of expectation and really stretched out and challenged themselves. But our real hero is Russ, my god, did he ever sing his ass off! Nobody can deny the results of all of his hard work. Oh yeah, Matt and I did alright too. All in all, we feel that every minute we put in was worth the wait. It gave us the perspective we needed to attain what we heard in our heads. We felt the need to dig deep and deliver the very best material we could for everyone to get a feel for our sound in 2009. Especially under the circumstances of being out of the Metal genre for so long. Rest assured, it sounds like Forbidden!
"The songs were Recorded and Mixed by Tim Narducci and assisted by Brad Barth at Sonic Room/Audio Voyage studios in Livermore California. Tim did an amazing job and fully dedicated himself to the project. It's a fantastic situation, because Tim and Brad play with me in SpiralArms! The working/creative relationship has really flourished over the last year. It's truly ideal!
"Adapt or Die will debut worldwide tomorrow night, Friday the 21st, at this location on Nikki Blakk's Metal Zone between 10pm and 1am pst. Nikki Blakk is a True Metal supporter and a great DJ! There couldn't be a better place to debut a new Forbidden song then playing it on the Bone, based here in San Francisco, for such a large audience of Metal Heads! Thanks Nikki! More...
Forbidden Completes Work On New Material
American thrash metal veterans Forbidden has confirmed that they have finished writing new material for their first new studio album in thirteen years. A message from guitarist Craig Locicero reads as follows:
"Hey Everyone. As some of you may already know, my blogs can get a bit long winded. So I'll do my best to keep it short here. Ughhhh!!!
"The last few months have been filled with music like no other time in my life. No longer will I feel that I have to put all of the eggs in one basket. There are too many talented people and too much creativity out there to sit around and wait for anything. But the hardest part is holding it back. You want to let people hear it when you know how cool the stuff is. But that's just the business part of things.
"Let's see, Forbidden finished recording and mixing our first new stuff in 13 years, we can't wait to unleash that!!! This is a huge monkey off of our backs and we feel great about it. I'll only say this for now, these are exactly the songs that needed to springboard us into the future. We will be posting 'Adapt Or Die' up on our MySpace page before our show at Slim's in San Francisco on August 22nd. That's next week. We promise!!! Much more on that as this week progresses."
Forbidden Issues Band Update
California metallers Forbidden have issued the following band update:
"Once again, it's about time for us to check in with everyone and let them know what we've been up to. This time it's quite a bit with something special for our fans to top it off.
"First thing people have been poking and prodding us about is new music. Yes, we have it and are writing even more all the time. No, it's not the actual record that we're recording. We are still in the demo process and are making damn well sure that it lives up to our standards. It seems that most fans feel some sort of ownership to a different era of Forbidden's catalog and everyone has an opinion of what they think we should try and sound like. Well, we don't really try. We just do. Having two new and very talented members that were also long time fans doesn't hurt! It certainly brings some perspective to the table and keeps things fresh. We feel the material is very strong and that's what works for us.
"We're almost finished with the first demo of new songs in a long, long time. We probably would have been done a little while earlier, but schedules between band members studio time and engineer availability puts a little space in between everything. Which, in this case, suits us just fine. The two songs we chose to record are very much in the melodic thrash genre that we evolved into on Twisted Into Form. Keep in mind, we have a lot more material then we've recorded and are going to keep writing until we think we've got more then enough. There will be all kinds of songs and we intend on showing our fans some new tricks up our sleeve as well. More...
Forbidden Begins Writing New Material
Guitarist Craig Locicero of the thrash metal band, Forbidden, has issued the following update about his experiences writing new material with new guitarist Steve Smyth (Nevermore, Testament, Dragonlord):
"First off, we've been crazed busy offer the last couple of months! Multiple levels of work and play going on around here. Getting ready for our California dates that start tomorrow at the Key Club in Hollywood and end with a home show Blow-out in San Jose at the Voodoo Lounge. That has turned into the priority for now. Obviously first and foremost Steve Smyth being the 'New Dude' and getting up to speed was important. He and I had been working on Skype a few days a week for the last few months before he finally arrived here from London last week. That prepared Steve to walk in and play the older songs with conviction and purpose." More...
After All Announces Tour Dates With Forbidden
Thrash band After All has announced that they will be playing two shows with Forbidden. The currently confirmed dates are as follows:

6/1, London (UK), Underworld
Forbidden Posts Update On New Material
Bay Area thrash legends Forbidden has posted the following message online regarding the bands reunion album:
"Hey All,
Time for a quick news bit about what's upcoming. We're going to be laying down some tracks on a couple of new Forbidden tunes next week with Tim Narducci co-producing it with the band. We've been working on a gang of new material for a few months and we wanted to get the first taste out as soon as we could find the time. It's important for us to let our fans (who may be the most patient in the world!) in on what we've been at this whole time. We can tell you only this much....it's KILLER! Tim's going to do a great job of capturing our new energy and we're stoked as Hell!
"It's been great working with the other guys this closely again. There is still so much more work to be done! The thing we all realize is, it's best to take our time and not rush the stuff. That would be a dis-service to the ones who have been waiting. It's funny, so many opinions are thrown at us weekly about what the material 'should' sound like. The fact is- it's taking on a life of it's own. We can never really go in the Way Back Machine and sound just like the kids that recorded Forbidden Evil. As cool as that record was, we would be regressing a bit to do such a thing. This stuff is more in the vein as Twisted Into Form with our experiences over the last 20 years wrapped into it. Heavy, Melodic, Thrashy, Technical , Forbidden!!! It's a blast. More...
Forbidden Posts News Update
Reunited thrash metal veterans Forbidden has posted the following message online:
"Throughout the years Forbidden has had many great players contributing to the music. In 2008 we came together for the first time in 12 years for a short re-union tour that included Russ Anderson on vocals, Craig Locicero and Glen Alvalais on guitar, Matt Camacho on bass, Mark Hernandez and the Great Gene Hoglan on drums. Even Paul Bostaph sat in for three shows. Of course we will never forget all of the amazing work that Tim Calvert and Steve Jacobs brought to the table even though they could not be a part of this re-union. Everyone was equally invaluable through out the History of Forbidden, though the core of the band on every record has always been Russ, Matt and Craig.
"After the shows were completed in 2008, four of us were motivated and inspired enough to start working together closely and create music once again. A conscious decision was made to continue moving forward and write a new Forbidden album, our first in 13 years! After many conversations and soul searching we decided on the following line up to accomplish this...
"We would like to proudly announce that the line up for this album and all of our up coming shows are, Russ Anderson, Craig Locicero, Steve Smyth, Matt Camacho, and Mark Hernandez. That being said, the re-union is now over and the future of Forbidden has begun.
Mark and Steve are officially members of Forbidden! More...

The currently untitled album is expected for Spring 2009 release.
Defiance plan to finish the recording of their Candlelight debut by year's end. The band expects to tour in the early part of 2009.
Forbidden Begins Writing New Material
Forbidden guitarist Craig Locicero has posted the following lengthy update:
"It's time for a recap and update for what's on tap with FORBIDDEN.
"First of all, we want to let everyone that went to our shows in Europe and gave of all of that love: thank you! That was a wonderful experience for everyone in the band. It's a helluva honor to get that kind of response after going our separate ways in '97. People went apeshit crazy at the festivals and our club gigs and every night was a highlight reel. Plus we got a lot of good video. The Dynamo club was one of the craziest gigs, but it's unfair to say what was the best, because all of the clubs and the people treated us so well every night! Personally, I thought I would never go backwards and play with FORBIDDEN again. Well, the old cliché 'never say never' pops in my head a lot now. I was mistaken and now we're happy we put forth the effort. We have a better grip on where we stand and how to prepare for next time. There will be a next time. More...
Forbidden and Sebastian Bach Drop off TMT Festival
Upstate New York's TMT festival has been temporarily postponed. The organizors have issued the following update:
"Due to an unagreeable situation that has arisen with the venue, we are forced to postpone - TEMPORARILY this event. We are currently spending every waking moment searching for a replacement venue that will satisfy both our needs and please all of the bands and fans. The lack of basic cooperation on the part of the venue is what has prompted this decision. We tried in vain to make every effort necessary, but in the end - they failed us."
"There will be two lineup changes - Forbidden had a problem between management and booking, they decided to play another gig that weekend. Metal Mike contacted us when Sebastian Bach decided to go on tour, this tour conflicted with the concert date. We wish both bands good luck in their endeavors."

Forbidden Reveals Drummer For European Tour
Reunited thrashers Forbidden have revealed that Mark Hernandez will be behind the kit on their forthcoming European tour. Mark has a wealth of bands he's previously played for including Heathen, Vio-Lence and RE:Ignition amongst others.
Guitarist Craig Locicero states: "Yes, we're all very excited about going over to Europe with Mark Hernandez behind the kit. It took us a while to sort out all of the details, so we apologize for the delay. It was rumoured that Chris Kontos, whom I already have the honor of playing with in SPIRALARMS, was going to be Forbidden's European drummer. But that did not pan out because Chris had other obligations with ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT and the PART TIME CHRISTIANS. So we had to try out some other drummers and Mark was on fire for the gig! He knocked us over with his audition and showed us how good he really is. This guy is going to surprise a lot of people. He shocked all of us and really did his homework.
"I've known Mark a long time after seeing him play with Vio-Lence and Re:Ignition and most recently Heathen so I knew he had some chops. The last thing we would do is put someone onto the Forbidden drum throne who could not handle the job and pressure of filling some mighty large shoes. Obviously, Paul Bostaph and Steve Jacobs would be there if they could, but Paul's in TESTAMENT and Steve is unavailable in the time frame of this tour. So Mark won the job flat-out and he deserves it! So let's show him some love and respect to Mark when he bashing behind the kit with us in Europe. Make him feel welcome!"
