Havok Comments On Upcoming Tour Dates

Young Denver thrash battalion, Havok, which recently wrapped up a tour supporting Florida death metallers Malevolent Creation, is gearing up for two very special treks. The first is a short run of headlining dates that will commence in Salt Lake City, Utah on May 3rd and run through to Amarillo, Texas on May 12th. From there, the band will head home for a short break before joining Bay Area thrash act Forbidden, for a near month-long journey that will kick off in West Hollywood, California and level 22 North American cities before drawing to a close in Escondido, California. Also joining the tour will be Revocation and White Wizzard.

Commented vocalist/guitarist David Sanchez: "Starting May 3, we'll be heading out for a west coast run. Touring the west coast was how we got our start, so it always feels like home. It will be great to return for some head-smashing headline shows. Then in June, we'll be doing a US/Canada run, coast to coast, with Forbidden, Revocation and White Wizzard! I am so psyched to be touring with all of these great bands! Forbidden is one of my favorite thrash metal bands and I really hope to hear some songs from their first two albums. Revocation is one of my favorite bands to have come out in the last 10 years and they're all friends of ours, so I'm super pumped to get to hang out with them every night! I anticipate White Wizzard to be epic-as-fuck every night as well. I'm very excited to be a part of this tour because I feel that it will be one of the best metal packages of the 2011. White Wizzard Comments on Forbidden Tour

Metal Underground recently reported on the North American tour dates for Forbidden, Havok, Revocation and White Wizzard. Los Angeles metal traditionalists White Wizzard are set to play their first shows since the return of vocalist Wyatt Anderson.

White Wizzard bassist and founding member Jon Leon comments:

"I am very excited to be touring with Forbidden. Forbidden was my favorite band of the Bay Area thrash/metal scene back in the day when I was a kid. I also hold them in the highest regard in musicianship, song writing and technical ability.

"Their first three albums, "Forbidden Evil," "Twisted Into Form," and "Distortion" were all big influences on me and inspired me to want to be a musician. I saw many a show back then, and there was no band in that scene that could pull off a live show better than Forbidden. Russ is one of the few GREAT singers in metal history and he is the best of ALL TIME in the history of thrash. That includes the so called "Big Four."

"I was so bummed they split in the late '90s, and when they reunited I went up to the Bay Area to see them and it was still magic. I have seen them twice since and they are just getting better and better.

"It is great to go open for a band I respect so much and the best part will be being able to watch their set every night!! Forbidden is a special band and it is great they are back making music and touring again. We are very thrilled to be along for the ride this time."

More Bands Added To Bloodstock Lineup

The organizers of the Bloodstock festival have issued the following announcement adding Finntroll, Wintersun, and Forbidden to the lineup:

"One of the leading names in the folk/pagan metal scene, Finntroll returns to Bloodstock after a rapturous reception back in 2007. Originally conceived as the result of a night of alcoholic carnage, when in a moment of inspiration, original guitarist Teemu 'Somnium' Raimoranta (RIP) and former vocalist Jan 'Katia' Jamsen conceived of a band that fused the darkness and grandeur of black metal with the traditional Finnish hoedown-music. The resultant sound was Finntroll.

"Joining them will be Fellow Finnish folk-freaks Wintersun, who’s set at Bloodstock this year will be highly anticipated after they were forced to pull out the 2009 event to complete their still to be released 'Time' album, expected later this year. Featuring members from some of the top names in the Finnish metal scene including Ensiferum, Rotten Sound and Norther, Wintersun are something of a super-group, with the various members influences combining to create a unique blend of melodic death and power metal with a heavy folk flavour that is bound to go down a storm with the Bloodstock crowd.

"Also added to the line-up are reformed US Thrash legends Forbidden. The recently reformed thrashers released their first album in over 13 years last October, after too-long a hiatus. 'Omega Wave,' released via Nuclear Blast records, received rave reviews in the British metal media and was rapturously received by fans, who lapped up the 12 tracks of no nonsense, back-to basics thrash on offer. Find out why Forbidden is one of the most highly regarded acts of the 80s/90s US thrash scene at this, their first ever UK festival appearance."

Additional details on the Bloodstock festival, which takes place from August 12th - 14th, are available here.

Glen Drover Readies Solo Album, "Metalusion"

With the release of his solo debut, "Metalusion" (due out April 5th), guitarist Glen Drover, best known for his precision and power playing with Megadeth and Eidolon, "blends the venom and attack of modern metal and the technically demanding musicianship that defines the classic jazz-rock genre."

The instrumental, 10-track album features five original compositions and metallic- edged interpretations of material composed by musical giants Frank Zappa, Al DiMeola and Jean-Luc Ponty.

"Metalusion" presents a side of Drover's musical identity that the metal community has rarely witnessed, while boasting diverse yet highly cohesive tracks. "Each song should sound as though it was meant to be included on the record," says Drover. "Nothing should seem as though it's out of place."

Assisting Drover are a number of special guests, including Nevermore's power metal/prog metal guitarist Jeff Loomis, Opeth's and Talisman's axe man Fredrik Åkesson, veteran Steve Smyth of the Bay Area's Forbidden, Ohm's guitar hero, Chris Poland (Megadeth) and classical metal master Vinnie Moore of UFO.

Here's the tracklisting for "Metalusion":

1. Ground Zero Special Guests - Chris Poland and Vinnie Moore
2. Frozen Dream Special Guest - Steve Smyth
3. Egyptian Danza [Al DiMeola Cover]
4. Colors Of Infinity
5. Illusions Of Starlight
6. Don't Let The World Pass You By [Jean-Luc Ponty Cover] - Special Guest - Fredrik Akesson
7. Mirage [Jean-Luc Ponty Cover] - Special Guest - Jeff Loomis
8. Ascension
9. The Purple Lagoon [Frank Zappa Cover]
10. Filthy Habits [Frank Zappa Cover]

Forbidden Guitarist Releases Signature Guitar

Forbidden guitarist Steve Smyth has issued the following announcement about releasing his signature 6 and 7 string BC Rich "Bich" guitars:

"After nearly 3 years of effort put in, I am happy to announce that my BC Rich signature series guitars have been released. I chose everything for these guitars, right down to the finish, and I'm very happy to say my wishes have been met! I have been using the Signature 6 series - this absolute monster - with the mighty Forbidden for the last few years, and I honestly have to say it slays every other guitar I have, straight up! Solid, consistent tone across all the dynamics I need; the feel is incredible plus it's really light for having the heavy woods it has.

"The Signature 7 series version of the guitar has been released as well. This has the same woods as the 6, but with 81-7 and 707 pickups, Grover tuners, and a Floyd Rose tremolo as well. I'm loving this thing… it hasn't left my hands since I got it! This guitar will see use with my new metal band Firehead (debut in late 2011), as well as featured heavily on the new album and live performances coming this year from The EssenEss Project. I hope you'll enjoy these guitars as much as I do. Check them out!" More...

Forbidden / Demonica / SpiralArms guitarist & songwriter Craig Locicero and his co-host "Barbwire" Bill Shields (former host for In the Dark Radio, Professional Wrestler and current Ordained Minister of the Collective Conscious) will be taking questions and speaking off-the-cuff on whatever news related and controversial subject may come up.

Forbidden issued the following statement about the show:

"The goals of the show are two-fold. 1) To speak to different compelling and controversial lyricists in Metal and Hard Rock weekly. They will be asked about their motivation, their craft, and what exactly inspires them in these challenging times to do what they do. Their thoughts & opinions on the most current affairs and intensely debated issues will also be discussed.

"2) Have listeners sit in on a real conversation between good friends without censorship watering those thoughts down. Hosts Bill and Craig will be taking questions & topic suggestions live and will have unfiltered reactions to them in real time. Forbidden Comments On Upcoming Tour

Reactivated San Francisco Bay Area thrashers Forbidden are set to embark on their first tour in 15 years, this time as direct support to Overkill. Immediately proceeding the trek the band will continue on their own headlining tour with Evile, Gamma Bomb, and Bonded By Blood.

"It's been 15 years since Forbidden has actually toured in North America," commented Craig Locicero. "That blows my fucking mind to say it! The funny thing is that even when we did tour here, we never properly did it. It was always a very short cycle with little or no support from the labels. Well, times have changed and so has Forbidden's situation. With Nuclear Blast having our backs and properly promoting and supporting Omega Wave, I feel a sense of hope for this band that we have never felt before. Strange feeling, really. But we will take it.

"Our goal is to get better every night and eventually become the live band that we never got to be. That takes dedication and a lot of hard work. We're digging in committing to just that. We hope our fans will appreciate us as much as we appreciate them. See you all on the road soon!"

Forbidden Posts New Song Online

Bay Area thrash metal veterans Forbidden have posted another new song online from their forthcoming new studio album, "Omega Wave." You can check it out by heading to their official Myspace. The album will be released in Europe on October 22nd and on October 26th in North America. This will be their first studio album since 1997's, "Green."

Guitarist Craig Locicero stated: "Being able to easily describe a song like ‘Dragging My Casket’ is damn near impossible. The lyrical concept was originally brought in by Matt. That in itself is a little bit different for us. He was inspired by the lyrical content that Russ and I had up to that point. Matt sees the world a little bit differently then the rest of us, myself in particular. He came into practice with some lyrics pointed with puzzlement towards people that believe humanity is headed towards it's own undoing. Not that he doesn't think it's a possibility, but Matt just won't go there for the most part. He wondered how a person with a family and a kid that loves life as much as I do could hold all of this knowledge as closely as I do without getting depressed. Hell, I do not even know!

"That got Russ and I into thinking about it and we took Matt's seed and planted it. How can you describe these feelings of overwhelming despair that so many people feel today? We imagined what a young person that's barely had a chance to experience life feels with all of the information over-load that we have today. Between the lies and the truth are billions of opinions that make a sea of uneasiness. It's tough living these days. ‘Dragging My Casket’ tries to paint that picture. There are so many emotions that one gets while trying to digest all of this regurgitated information and make our own opinion and interpretations of this reality. It tells that story from one persons point of view. In my mind, that is a young person trying to figure out were they fit in today's chaotic society.

"Musically, ‘Dragging My Casket’ song twists and turns more then any other Forbidden song to date. It's faster, more melodic, heavier, thrashier, dark and beautiful all at different points. Vocally, Russ sounds incredible and really gets into his part as the story unfolds. It's amazing to listen to one man sing starting on 1 and jumping to 10 like no other singer! Some of the best stuff he's ever done is on Omega Wave and this is the centerpiece of the record.

"I guess I could have just said ‘Dragging My Casket’ is a fucking epic!”

Gama Bomb Comments On First US Tour

Irish thrashers GAMA BOMB have just wrapped up their "Graveyard Disturbance" headlining European tour, and are now gearing up for their first ever North American tour. The band will be kicking off the massive North American trek on October 22nd and will be teaming up with the likes of OVERKILL, FORBIDDEN, EVILE, BONDED BY BLOOD and DRI.

GAMA BOMB frontman PHILLY BYRNE looks ahead to their first American tour:

"Touring in America is one of those things that every band, every musician or bedroom rockstar dreams about. Even bands from America don't get to tour America. We're lucky enough to get the chance and are really excited about it. If any tour we've ever undertaken can be described as a great adventure, this is it. It's going to be hard, but we're hard men. It's going to be girthy, but so are we. We'll wear the appropriate hats and drink the right liquors. You get the picture. More...
