Lucem Fero has issued an interview with TURISAS vocalist Mathias "Warlord" Nygård, conducted in September by Welsh interviewer Anthony Morgan. An excerpt appears below:
Q: Turisas is due to issue a DVD entitled A Finnish Summer With Turisas, so could you provide an introduction to this upcoming release?
A: "Compared to the other group DVDs available for purchase, it's slightly different. Whilst touring across North America, we began to take a look at our summer 2008 schedule. We realized that a number of Finnish shows had been booked, and that was quite strange. In the past few years, most of our performances have occurred within Germany, the UK, or abroad. Only during the last year or two, we've actually started gaining recognition in our home country. Of course, it's nice to gain recognition in your home country as well. We found our summer schedule slightly special, and opted to film a documentary regarding the whole summer. It's a road trip somewhat, but also happens to be a documentary regarding Turisas. The DVD features interviews and so on, and that type of material spans roughly an hour. That footage sits alongside roughly ninety minutes of live material, which was filmed from each of the festival performances we conducted. Collectively, they work; you see the group behind the scenes making pre-show preparations, and you can then view the performances themselves. In a nice way, both are built on top of one another."
Q: Obviously, Turisas' sophomore album The Varangian Way was issued during May 2007. Are there any plans to issue a third full length?
A: "I think it's going to be awhile before we issue our third album (laughs). At the moment, we'll be touring for quite some time. Right now, our plans are to finish this touring cycle alongside DRAGONFORCE by the summer of 2009. Following that, we'll take a break to start focusing upon writing new songs, and subsequently entering production. From mid 2009 until the end of 2009, there'll likely be a gap. We won't tour much, but will focus upon writing new tracks, and cutting our third album."
Q: So Turisas won't likely release its third album until 2010?
A: "Yeah, that sounds realistic."

Fresh from the Paganfest USA tour, Turisas themselves have confirmed the supporting slot for Dragonforce's upcoming UK and Ireland tour, starting in September 2008.
Warlord Nygård comments: "After our own European Tour and Paganfest USA this spring, we're happy to announce this one: we're joining up with Dragonforce on their UK tour and this something we're already hugely looking forward to. We are also extra excited about the shows in Ireland, which will be our first ones on the island that we've been unfortunate enough to miss out on previous tours. As you can imagine, Olli is sharpening his bow already as his one-man mission is about to reach its climax ... All in all, it's going to be a great package no-one should miss out on.
"See you at the summer festivals and latest in the autumn!"

Folk metal band Turisas released a statement that they would be cancelling their upcoming Albuquerque show on May 13th.
Commenting on the timing of the announcement Turisas stated "Sorry for the late information, we only got confirmation yesterday ourselves. On the other note, the tour has been really great and the audience reception awesome. Thanks for everybody who have showed up, and you who still haven't, make sure to do something about it quick."
Turisas is currently on the Paganfest 2008 touring North America alongside Ensiferum, Tyr, and Eluveitie.
British power metallers DRAGONFORCE's webmaster has issued the following update:
"The mighty DragonForce are set for a UK and Ireland tour this September. The tour will follow the release of their as-yet-untitled new album, which is pencilled to hit stores on August 25th.
The band are currently hard at work completing the new album, before heading Stateside in early July for the start of the inaugural Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival tour. The package kicks off in early July and is headlined by SLIPKNOT and DISTURBED, with DragonForce bagging a main stage slot right before them.
Meanwhile, DragonForce’s last album Inhuman Rampage, is still romping out of stores on both sides of the pond, thanks in part to the inclusion of lead track, ‘Through The Fire And Flames’ as the ‘most difficult' on the top-selling Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock video game.
Elsewhere in DragonForce news, guitarists Herman Li and Sam Totman recently launched their new signature guitars at the NAMM show in Los Angeles. You can check out the details over at www.ibanez.com. Also look out for an exclusive interview with Sam real soon.
Tickets for the tour go on sale this Friday, April 18th and can be pre-ordered from Wednesday morning (16th) at www.livenation.co.uk." More...
To begin with, Korpiklaani was not present for this leg of the Paganfest tour, and it’s nothing short of a tragedy that North Americans had to miss out on the Forest Clan for this event.
Eluveitie was also not in attendance, supposedly because they didn’t file the proper paperwork with the Canadian customs in a timely fashion, so Gwynbleidd was on hand to fill in as an opener at the Medley in Montreal, Quebec. These New Yorkers weren’t quite as folksy as their Scandinavian counterparts, yet they offered a melancholic, progressive metal – slow, dark material, somewhat similar to High On Fire, and they set the stage quite nicely for Tyr.
Tyr looked the same as ever, long-haired and bare-chested, and they treated the crowd to a song from their newest album, “Land”. Fans were pleased to see “Hail to the Hammer” and the Faroese “Ramund Hin Unge” get some play, as well as “Wings of Time”. Unfortunately, their set was cut mercilessly short after a few songs, and they were replaced by Turisas. It is safe to say, even among the crazy Ensiferum fans, that Turisas stole the show that night. They swept up the crowd into the palm of their head and collectively placed it in their pocket. More...
Century Media Records reports:
With a phenomenal start to 2008 after the second headlining UK tour as well as their first European headlining run with labelmates NORTHER, TURISAS have confirmed that they will once again be gracing UK shores after having been confirmed as main support on the fall tour with DRAGONFORCE.
Warlord Nygard had the following to say on the forthcoming tour: “We just made it back from a very successful European tour which included an impressive 13 dates in the UK. We were really surprised how amazing the turnout was, with many of the UK shows selling out, considering we had only played one of the cities before. The crowds were crazy and now we're extremely pleased that we're able to come back in autumn to do it all over again. We’re joining up with Dragonforce on their UK tour and this something we're already hugely looking forward to. Right now we’re just about to head out on a voyage to begin our assault on the US as part of the Paganfest .. so we’ll either see you at the summer festivals or in the autumn.” More...
