Rock Against Diabetes 2008 Rocks Vegas

"Rock Against Diabetes 2008" was held at Club Rox in Las Vegas, Nevada. The club was kind enough to provide R.A.D. with a venue for the two-day event. Many artists gave of themselves to support the cause, which will not be forgotten by all of us that struggle with diabetes on a daily basis.

I got the chance to talk with the event founder and organizer, Darrin Buchanan, and he explained how all of this came about. Two years ago, Darrin's foot died on him virtually over night. He underwent a number of tests and the result was diabetes and that part of his foot would need to be removed. Here is a 36 year old man with a wife and young daughter and he was facing the fight of his life. From that experience Rock Against Diabetes began. The first event was held is Canada and Darrin, in his wheelchair, was keeping the show flowing and the event was a success. A chain of events led to a second surgery to remove more of Darrin's leg from the knee down, and now Darrin would be walking again after 2 years with the help of a prosthetic leg. It was fantastic to see Darrin running around for two days along with his lovely wife Lindsey. They are my heroes! I am sure glad we are on the same team in this daily fight that we diabetics face each day. They give me strength and hope! More...

Opiate for the Masses Posts New Song Online

OPIATE FOR THE MASSES have posted the new track “21st Century Time Bomb” on their MySpace page. This track is off the group’s new album, “Manifesto,” which is scheduled for a July 8th release.

Upon speaking about the song’s origin, vocalist, Ron Underwood states “The track ‘21st Century Time Bomb’ was one of the first songs that Jim (guitars) and I worked on for Manifesto. The title is actually a direct quote from a Metal Edge article- [they called Opiate ‘A 21st Century Time Bomb’ in a review]. So we took that and ran with it; used it as a template for the song itself. The music had to be mechanical and militant, but brash like a guillotine; the soundtrack of a revolutionary uprising. The lyrics had to be the voice of the underdog lit to pop in the face of oppression. Who can't relate to that? Also, to stay on course with the theme, we recorded the song at 120 beats per minute so that the back beat synchronizes with the second hand of a clock (for the time bomb effect) and it happens to be a good, fast-marching tempo. I think it's the perfect opener for our new album.” More...

Opiate For The Masses To Support Filter On Tour

OPIATE FOR THE MASSES will be supporting Filter on their upcoming tour.

The band recently signed a record deal with Century Media Records and has a new single headed to radio in support of their upcoming Century Media debut, "Manifesto." "Manifesto," recorded by two Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum producers: Ulrich Wild (Slipknot, Deftones) and John Travis (Kid Rock, Buckcherry), is set for a July 8, 2008 release. "Manifesto" is a propulsive mix of sheer hard rock aggression, soaring melodies and electronic experimentation. A track that will be included on Manifesto, “Dead Underground,” originally appeared on the Saw III soundtrack and exposed the band to a whole new audience.

OPIATE FOR THE MASSES' lineup consists of Ron Underwood (vocals), Jim Kaufman (guitars, synths) and Seven Antonopoulos (drums) with newly added bassist, Anna K (Drain STH, Revolting Cocks).

OPIATE FOR THE MASSES created a solid buzz and diehard fanbase with their self-produced debut album, "The Spore," and its slew of major tours alongside the likes of Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed, My Chemical Romance and Seether, among others. They were also a featured act on the inaugural Taste of Chaos tour. Their latest touring adventure will be with FILTER, beginning on May 20th in Atlanta, GA. Opiate For The Masses Signs To Century Media

Opiate For The Masses, the quartet from Los Angeles, have signed a worldwide record deal with Century Media Records.

Opiate For The Masses are also proud to announce the addition of renowned bassist Anna Kjellberg (ex-Drain STH, Hanzel Und Gretyl, Revolting Cocks) to the fold, which immediately adds another great dynamic to their already devastating live show.

They recently completed work on their much anticipated new full-length album, "Manifesto," recorded by two Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum producers: Ulrich Wild (Slipknot, Deftones) and John Travis (Kid Rock, Buckcherry). The new offering is a propulsive mix of sheer hard rock aggression, soaring melodies and electronic experimentation that could be best described as Alice In Chains meets Prodigy. Manifesto is slated for a summer release. You can visit the group's Myspace to check out some older tracks, photos and videos.

Kaufman further comments: "Since its conception, Opiate For The Masses has been a band in a constant state of transformation. Unwilling to change course merely to fit in among the flavors of the week, this band has gained popularity by blazing new trails for others to follow. The completion of our latest and boldest album, Manifesto, signals a new era for the band's experimentation, yet the resulting sound is something more accessible to the masses.

"We are also extremely pleased with the addition of world-renown musicians, Seven Antonopoulos and Anna K, as their great recording and live contributions added so much depth to our arsenal. The group feels that the final puzzle piece has been put into place as it has teamed up with Century Media to release this musically ground-breaking record. This is such a great opportunity for band and label alike. Both parties are comprised of forward-thinking, hard-working and true fans of music."

Opiate For The Masses created a solid buzz and diehard fanbase with their self-produced debut album, "The Spore," backed by a slew of major tours alongside Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed, My Chemical Romance and Static-X, among countless others. They were also a featured act on the inaugural Taste of Chaos tour. A track from the upcoming album, "Dead Underground," originally appeared on the Saw III soundtrack and exposed the band to a whole new audience.

Vans Warped Tour Report From Vancouver, BC

On Tuesday, July 12, the Vans Warped Tour ’05 rolled through Vancouver. Now I know the Warped Tour is a more punk-oriented tour but there’s usually one or two “heavy” bands on the tour. I have been to the past three Warped Tours and they were generally a lot of fun.

Like the other years, the Warped Tour was at Thunderbird Stadium on UBC campus. Doors were at 11am and the event started soon after that. There were two main stages inside the stadium, the Bishop and the Mike stages. Bands alternated on the stages, each playing a half hour slot. There were also four or five other stages scattered outside the stadium, far enough from each other so that the bands playing would not interfere with each other, and a bunch of booths everywhere so there is always something to do.
