Rwake Announces Year-End Shows

Arkansas’ backwoods doomsayers Rwake have announced a series of year-end shows to close out 2012. The festivities will commence December 19th in the band’s hometown of Little Rock. The 12-minute short film, directed by Danish horror aficionado Casper Haugegaard, features devastating slow motion close-ups of actual pig fetuses being annihilated by a variety of implements.

Rwake released "Rest" last year and the full album can be streamed in the Bandcamp player below. The band's upcoming tour dates are:

12/19/2012 White Water Tavern - Little Rock, AR w/ Sound of the Mountain, Peckerwolf

Rwake Singer Vomits During MDF Set, On Video

While at Maryland Deathfest X this past weekend, I heard about Rwake singer C.T. getting sick and throwing up on the stage. Someone caught this on video and posted it online, and you can see for yourself. Vomiting starts around the 2:20 mark, but the whole song is worth checking out.

You can hear the band's entire discography on bandcamp.

SXSW 2012: Tone Def Touring Showcase with C.O.C.

After Pallbearer marched its audience toward a giant, gaping abyss at ND, I hustled a couple blocks west to Dirty Dog Bar. I learned an important lesson last year: If you don’t have a badge or wrist band, show up early to ensure you get into the venue. Last year, I showed up a band or two into the Metal Alliance show and missed Saint Vitus and Crowbar. Once the doors opened, the bar’s staff allowed a few badge and wrist-band holders in first and then opened the flood gates to everyone else.

The Atlas Moth did not bide its time in leisurely boredom like me. The Chicago-based space sludge masters were busy setting up for their second show in the span of a couple of hours. The group filled in the vacancy left by Rwake, who also bowed out of The Atlas Moth’s earlier show. Without their planetary light show that illuminated ND’s, The Atlas Moth’s performance was not as visually stunning. Their keyboards, effects and coarse tones updated the flowery texture of traditional psychedelia. Although they call Profound Lore home, The Atlas Moth could fit right in on Neurosis’ Neurot label. Doom Rules Pitchfork.com's SXSW Day Party at ND

South By Southwest 2012 maintained its tradition of billing a long list of heavy bands from an assortment of styles. Attendees began pouring in from every corner of the globe on the previous Friday to experience the interactive and film portion of the city-wide festival. Traditionally, at least during the last few years, the music segment starts five days later on Wednesday. Even though I attended a free show at Emo’s East featuring High on Fire, our coverage begins with Wednesday’s usual sonic circus.

Torn between the Thrasher/Converse Death Match Day Party at Scoot Inn and Pitchfork’s Show No Mercy show at ND, I opted for the Pitchfork show. The Thrasher show included legendary hardcore punk acts Fear and Cro-Mags as well as Nachtmystium, but I chose the doomed tones of Rwake, Pallbearer and Pilgrim at the Pitchfork.com show. More...

Nachtmystium Announces Full-Time Bassist

Chicago black metal assassins Nachtmystium have officially announced their recently recruited full-time bassist, as they welcome Reid Raley of Rwake/Deadbird into the ranks of the band.

Over recent months guitarist/vocalist Blake Judd has recruited several other full-time members including lead guitarist Andrew Markuszewski (Avichi, Lord Mantis), drummer Charlie Fell (Lord Mantis, Avichi), and keyboard/synth engineer Sanford Parker (Minsk, Circle Of Animals), now solidifying the crew with the addition of Reid Raley on bass, making this the first "official lineup" for the band, ever.

Judd commented on Raley joining the band: "Nachtmystium, for the first time in the band's history as a full-time touring band, has a solid live lineup that matches the studio lineup. We intend to move forward and keep this group together indefinitely. It's taken 10 years to put together the perfect band, and now we've got it. So watch for us on the road starting in June and throughout the rest of the year! We anticipate that Reid's presence will not only bring a thunderous low-end onslaught on the live stage, but also will hopefully bring in some new elements into the writing of future Nachtmystium recordings."

You can read the full statement at Nachtmystium's Facebook page here.

You can catch the band's new full lineup over the Summer months, including a co-headlining spot at this year's Alehorn of Power Festival in Chicago June 11, a co-headlining spot at the Central Illinois Metalfest on July 23, and an appearance at Party.San Open Air Festival in Schlotheim, Germany on August 12. Upcoming confirmed shows are as follows:

6/11/2011 Alehorn Of Power Festival - Chicago, IL
7/23/2011 Central Illinois Metalfest - Urbana, IL
8/12/2011 Flugplatz Obermehler - Schlotheim, Germany @ Party San Festival

Further details on all ongoing endeavors of Nachtmystium will be unveiled over the coming weeks.
