It all began in 1991, the first of an unholy trinity of demos was complete. The young lads knew they had started something dark; something evil; something out of this world. They didn't disappoint with the release of their debut album 'The Principle of Evil Made Flesh' in 1994 on the label Cacophonous. The full length CD was a menagerie of gothic keyboards, metal riffing and Vampyric imagery. In other words the ultimate hammer horror soundtrack.
Drawing from an incredibly infinite list of influences, including the likes of Bathory, Celtic Frost and Diamanda Galas, and also the literary genius of Lord Byron, Sheridan LeFanu, Friedrich Nietzsche, Bram Stoker and Charles Baudelaire, Cradle Of Filth have produced albums of ever increasing quality. Soaring, sonic masterpieces that envelop you and take you away into the darkest depths of the collective Cradle mind. A dreamlike place full of legend, myths and Vampyres.
With 10 years in the past, Cradle Of Filth only have the future to conquer. Their recent concerts have built a fan base they never dreamed of. They truly have withstood the test of time.

In celebration of its forthcoming release, today the crypt keepers at Revolvermag.com spew forth "Unbridled At Dusk" from "Total Fucking Darkness," the third demo from notorious U.K. extreme metal legion, Cradle Of Filth.
Comments Dani Filth on the track: "This song was written in the encroaching Autumn of 1992 and was the executioner's block upon which we built the demo that started our career.
"Everything about this song is deep, dark and unbridled, a maxim that has steered the Cradle through twenty-two years of uncharted waters to the band we are today. And the raucous noise we make!"

Last week Cradle Of Filth announced that guitarist James McIlroy would be undergoing surgery, but now Dani Filth has issued the following update about the procedure being cancelled:
"Greetings Filthlings! Remember last week that I told you all about guitarist James Mcllroy's career-changing neck surgery? Well, it seems there was one massive fucking complication. I'll leave it to James himself to explain, by way of an email he sent me yesterday evening... (Please see below).
"I hope you join (with the rest of the band and I) in wishing him all the very best in overcoming this horrible situation he finds himself embroiled in."
"Hi Dani, right now I should have been coming to from surgery that would have fixed the pain in my back and arm that has plagues me for years. However, things did not go according to plan this morning and I am left sitting here, back at square one this evening.
"Last night I went into hospital, got admitted, got given a bed and had a few tests done, and one last MRI scan. Everything was set, and this morning, after having not slept all night (hospitals aren't exactly fun to sleep in) I was going through the operation prep this morning, had my ECG, had psyched myself up and was all ready to go with 30 minutes to an hour until they were going to take me in when suddenly i found out that the disc replacement surgery to them meant inserting a small cage in place of the damaged disc and then letting the bones fuse together. Now neck fusion is not what I had believed was going to happen for the past 9 months since the diagnosis, and from everything I have read about it reduces neck mobility and ends up with the other discs getting worn resulting in needing more fusions. Cradle of Filth has issued the following announcement about guitarist James McIlroy undergoing surgery:
"Tomorrow, March the fifteenth, James Mcilroy, guitar hairwolf, will be having the delicate operation to repair his spine carried out, the very same shit that has kept him absent from the recent tour of Europe, and caused him so much pain over playing the last few years.
"Pressed, though obviously not too heavily, on the subject, James had this to say when he emailed me this evening with the news...
Anyway I am going into hospital today as they've graciously decided to give me a bed, and will be going into surgery tomorrow late morning or early afternoon. Operation lasts about 3-5 hours, and I should be back among the living on Sunday. It kind of goes something like this:
All the support, and well wishes from across the world, the band and crewdle has been amazing, and I couldn't wish for more support in my quest to obtain a similar 360 degree head movement of an owl (if you're going to get part of your neck replaced, you may as well upgrade)! After this, I'll also technically be more metal...
Thanks to everyone, and see you on the other side, ready to fucking rock!
"I hope you all can join with the band in wishing him well in advance of the operation and in a speedy recovery. We miss the lashing windmills!"
In addition to the re-issuing of "Total Fucking Darkness," Cradle of Filth has checked in with the following update about starting work on a new album:
"The European tour was a massive success and decidedly awesome to slay the least! Hence this quick post to thank everyone for coming out in support of the band... You 'orrible lot were great and certainly pepped up our performances! So thank you all once again from the bottom of our filthy hearts (or indeed the heart of our filthy bottoms!) and see you all later in the year! More dates pending...
"Plus, we will begin to write the new album shortly, which promises to be an absolute blinder, enflamed as we are from playing an Old Skool set for the last nineteen shows!"
Cradle of Filth was recently covered in our Sunday Old School column as part of Black Metal History Month, and this upcoming album will follow previous full-length "The Manticore and Other Horrors" (reviewed here).
Controversy is a word that has appeared so many times over the past month’s columns. Whether it be the blasphemy displayed by Behemoth, the violent acts of some Gorgoroth members, or simply the name of Rotting Christ. However, today we’ll look at a band that caused controversy in a different fashion, when they brought black metal into the mainstream. The group labelled responsible for this supposed crime against metal, is English natives, Cradle of Filth. Cradle of Filth were formed in Ipswich, Suffolk, one of the most eastern counties of Britain, in 1991 by vocalist Dani Filth, guitar player, Paul Ryan, drummer Darren White, bassist Jon Pritchard and keyboard player, Benjamin Ryan. By the end of the next year, the band had recorded two demos, "Invoking the Unclean" and "Orgiastic Pleasures Foul," as well as a split release with Malediction. They soon signed with Tombstone Records and recorded their first album, "Goetia," although this was never released owing to the collapse of the label and the recordings being wiped, forcing the band to seek another record company.
Following another demo, "Total Fucking Darkness," which featured their new second guitarist Paul Allender and a new bassist named, Robin Graves, the band were picked up by Cacophonous Records, who marked a first release themselves with the debut Cradle album, "The Principle of Evil Made Flesh." The record also marked the recording debut of their new drummer, Nicholas Barker and featured a then unusual mesh of black metal and gothic influences, which helped grab the attention of critics who heaped praise upon the album. On May 5th, after more than 20 years, "Total Fucking Darkness" - the infamous third demo from the Cradle of Filth - will be officially released in vinyl format. Housed in a heavy gatefold sleeve with paintings featuring the twisted visions of Radio One Presenter and occult artist, Daniel P. Carter, the release will include some tracks previously unreleased by the band.
Frater Nihil, the founder of Cacophonous Records - the label that first signed Cradle of Filth - got together with Dani Filth and Paul Ryan (former guitarist and now in The King is Blind) to bring fans of the band, both old and new, a remastered version of the demo along with material that had been sitting in the vaults for 20 years.
The album kicks off with the track "Spattered in Faeces," the only surviving track from the "Goetia" sessions, followed on Side A and the rest of Side B with the recordings from "Total Fucking Darkness." Side C begins with another previously unreleased track, "Devil Mayfair (Advocatus Diaboli)," recorded at Samhain 1992, the rest of the side and the next feature the other three tracks from that session, along with two short instrumental pieces from the band's former keyboardist, Ben Ryan.
There will be a press of 666 copies in coloured vinyl for retail, with a Digipak CD version also available. The track listing is as follows: More...

"The co-headline European tour with BEHEMOTH is going great, from a sold-out show at the London Forum to a furious headline gig in Paris, it's been a f**king blast! Yesterday we had a quite a packed day off metro-ing it around Paris, photos of which I will be posting over the coming day or so as I collate them on my travels. Keep those peepers peeled.
"The picture below was taken in the Catacombs far below Paris where 6 million human remains are interred in ornate skull and bone stacks. Twisted images to follow fellow morbid curiosities!"

Cradle of Filth recently announced the upcoming release of a new graphic novel, and now the band has posted a teaser video, which can be viewed below. Cradle of Filth also comments:
"We at Cradle of Filth have premiered a new short film to promote our upcoming foray into graphic novels, The Curse of Venus Aversa. Produced by Greylight Studios, the movie purports to show a secret ceremony in New Orleans recorded on a hidden camera. The graphic novel itself is co-written by vocalist Dani Filth and New Orleans comic book author Kurt Amacker, and takes place in a Victorian world populated by images, themes, and horrors drawn from the Filth’s sprawling back catalog. The entire 76-page graphic novel is rendered in haunting black and white art by illustrator Montgomery Borror.
"The initial Kickstarter campaign to support the project smashed through its goal in only four days, but continues through November 9th. The campaign also offers fans a chance to order limited edition t-shirts and work shirts by Sigh Co. Graphics, and even handmade Dani Filth voodoo doll from Quarter Kids. The new film shows a ritual in New Orleans recorded on a hidden camera, in which the dolls are blessed by the city’s premiere vampire storyteller, Lord Chaz Howell."
From his home in Suffolk, Filth spoke on the movie, “I understood that the doll blessing ceremony took place, but things may not have gone as planned. Kurt sent me the video the other day. You’ll have to watch to see what happened. Strange things seem to occur in that city.”
Filth’s co-author, Kurt Amacker, stated from a dark bar in the city’s infamous French Quarter, “I think people need to see the film to understand what we might’ve uncovered here. I’ve still got a lot of unanswered phone calls out right now. Sometimes, New Orleans just kind of takes you. Regardless, I think people need to be careful when they accept these dolls into their homes.” More...
Looks like February will be bedazzled by a rather black sun when occult outfit In Solitude will embark on a 19-date European trek supporting Cradle of Filth on the band's co-headlining tour with Behemoth. Support on this tour also comes from Inquisition and Svarttjern.
In Solitude from Uppsala, Sweden is out now with third effort "Sister." Currently In Solitude is touring North America supporting Watain.
Behemoth meanwhile will release new album "The Satanist" in 2014. Frontman Nergal comments: “We are immensely proud to start promotion of 'The Satanist' on the release date of the album in such a noble company. It's been a while since we toured Europe for the last time… The wolf pack grew stronger and hungrier and with new opus and stage production we have so much more to offer. This European crusade will be the catalyst of 2 years long tour so keep your eyes open!”
Vocalist Dani Filth of Cradle of Filth also comments: “We are very much looking forward to touring with Behemoth et al, as I think the combined line-up for these momentous shows is definitely very killer. Prepare for some riotous shows immersed in such esteemed dark company, as Cradle traverses an Old Skool tour programme set against a viscerally visual backdrop of nocturnal metal supremacy. In other words, be there or be squared. Pinhead-style!” More...

"The band sincerely apologizes to all their fans and to the other acts on the tour and want to assure people they have made every effort possible to go ahead with the tour."

Lessons have also evolved past guitar; I teach songwriting and arranging and how to use Pro Tools as well as advice for anyone who wants to get ahead in the industry."
