Background

It all began in 1991, the first of an unholy trinity of demos was complete. The young lads knew they had started something dark; something evil; something out of this world. They didn't disappoint with the release of their debut album 'The Principle of Evil Made Flesh' in 1994 on the label Cacophonous. The full length CD was a menagerie of gothic keyboards, metal riffing and Vampyric imagery. In other words the ultimate hammer horror soundtrack.

Drawing from an incredibly infinite list of influences, including the likes of Bathory, Celtic Frost and Diamanda Galas, and also the literary genius of Lord Byron, Sheridan LeFanu, Friedrich Nietzsche, Bram Stoker and Charles Baudelaire, Cradle Of Filth have produced albums of ever increasing quality. Soaring, sonic masterpieces that envelop you and take you away into the darkest depths of the collective Cradle mind. A dreamlike place full of legend, myths and Vampyres.

With 10 years in the past, Cradle Of Filth only have the future to conquer. Their recent concerts have built a fan base they never dreamed of. They truly have withstood the test of time.

Cradle Of Filth Streams "Enshrined In Crematoria"

After painfully deflowering your maidenhead last week, today Cradle Of Filth arrives again today to once again wield the "Hammer of the Witches" against metal fans. Check out the track "Enshrined In Crematoria" below.

New album "Hammer of the Witches" is due to drop on July 10th via Nuclear Blast. Frontman Dani Filth also elaborated on the newly unleashed track:

"Lyrically the track 'Enshrined in Crematoria' is hilted in the legendary Ark Of The Tragedian, the poet's Holy Grail. It is the author's inspiration personified as a tombed angel, much like that of Poe's pale obsession, and the magickal 'midnight' ritual wherein she is conjured forth as a reincarnation of his lost love, to provide forbidden artistic sustenance. It is imagination's utter peak and fuel for a literal literary madman. 'Enshrined in Crematoria' is at essence the first of guitarist Richard Shaw's contributions to the new album, before the full band took it by the teeth and spat it into light." More...

Cradle Of Filth Deflowers Your Maidenhead

The barbarous hellhounds from Cradle of Filth will release forthcoming album, "Hammer of the Witches," on July 10th via Nuclear Blast.

Today, the band has released a new lyric video, "Deflowering the Maidenhead, Displeasuring the Goddess," which can be seen below. Frontman Dani Filth commented on the track:

"'Deflowering the Maidenhead, Displeasuring the Goddess' is based on the ancient belief of the world personified as Mother Goddess, concerning itself with her self-preservative measures when assailed by her final abuse by the human race. Violated, poisoned and unknowingly left for dead, Gaia's is a pre-emptive, violent and justified retribution; without tears for creed or culture. Nature versus Mankind. A total renewal of species. The song spirals onward at a frenetic, apocalyptic pace to climax and was originally one of guitarist Ashok's contributions to the album, along with 'The Vampyre at My Side.'"

The new album's track listing is as follows:

01. Walpurgis Eve
02. Yours Immortally...
03. Enshrined in Crematoria
04. Deflowering the Maidenhead, Displeasuring the Goddess
05. Blackest Magick in Practice
06. The Monstrous Sabbat (Summoning the Coven)
07. Hammer of the Witches
08. Right Wing of the Garden Triptych

Cradle Of Filth Posts Art Video

Cradle of Filth will release forthcoming album "Hammer of the Witches" on July 10th via Nuclear Blast. In anticipation of the release, the band's verbose mouthpiece of Hell, Dani Filth, tells us a bit more about the album artwork in a new teaser video available below.

The artwork was created by Arthur Berzinsh who is best known for his defiant neo-symbolism raster graphics and oil paintings, postmodern interpretations of classic myths and refined hooliganism in the playground of contemporary art.

"Hammer of the Witches" was brought to fruition in Britain's Witch County, in darkest rural Suffolk at the reputedly haunted Grindstone Studios. The album's title is named after the Malleus Maleficarum, a medieval document of guidelines regarding the persecution and torture of witches - but Cradle of Filth's title version is more retributory: It's the Hammer of the Witches; the hammer is in the witches' hands and it's payback time. Cradle Of Filth Unveils New Album Artwork

Cradle Of Filth today unveils the alluring yet harrowing cover artwork for upcoming 11th studio album and opus nocturne entitled "Hammer Of The Witches." Fiendish main man and vocalist Dani Filth explained the provocative cover:

“The artwork for 'Hammer Of The Witches' was created by Latvian Artist Arthur Berzinsh and is a lavish walk-through of the lyricism, drawing on rich Renaissance themes and displaying them in beautiful yet unsettling scenarios. Half of the detailed pieces are totally original for the release, others are Berzinsh classics cunningly tailored to the themes of the album, which are themes rife with heady witchcraft, be it persecution, retribution or unfettered spiritual liberation. The female form is rampant throughout the artwork, unashamedly displayed in its classical rendition of beauty... and horror.”

Arthur Berzinsh is best known for his defiant neo-symbolism raster graphics and oil paintings, postmodern interpretations of classic myths, and refined hooliganism in the playground of contemporary art. Arthur Berzinsh explains his artwork and concepts: More...

"The ultra-frenetic performance took place over two days at the former U.S. military base of Bentwaters, Rendlesham Forest (site of the UK's most prolific UFO encounter), firstly in an old fire station now used primarily in the film industry, and then in a creepy looking hangar that was once used for testing fighter jet engines...

Cradle Of Filth Working On New Album

After having worked with the band for several years in the United States already, it is with great pleasure that Nuclear Blast Records can officially announce the worldwide signing of Great Britain's Cradle Of Filth. Iconic vocalist Dani Filth had this to say on the subject:

"Nuclear Blast owner Markus Staiger has been trying to snare the band ever since I flew over to see him way back in 1996 as a viable label option, after we left Cacophonous records. He barely missed out due to the close proximity to the band of Music For Nations, the label that Cradle stayed with until 2001. Now, not only do Nuclear Blast have offices all over the world, but the one in London is actually dead opposite to the old MFN building! Which is weird!

"For the full frontal assault we have planned for the awesome new album, Nuclear Blast are the perfect war stallion to carry us screaming into the heart of the next chapter of COF's dark, enigmatic history. Next year is going to be a massive year for the band and the black flags start flying here, with the announcement of our unholy union with Nuclear Blast who have already done great things with my Witch County band, Devilment."

Cradle Of Filth just returned from a successful run through Russia and will hit the studio to begin recording the successor of 2012's "The Manticore And Other Horrors" (reviewed here) later this month. More...

Cradle Of Filth Guitarist Issues Surgery Update

Last week Cradle Of Filth announced that guitarist James McIlroy would be undergoing surgery, but now Dani Filth has issued the following update about the procedure being cancelled:

"Greetings Filthlings! Remember last week that I told you all about guitarist James Mcllroy's career-changing neck surgery? Well, it seems there was one massive fucking complication. I'll leave it to James himself to explain, by way of an email he sent me yesterday evening... (Please see below).

"I hope you join (with the rest of the band and I) in wishing him all the very best in overcoming this horrible situation he finds himself embroiled in."

James comments:

"Hi Dani, right now I should have been coming to from surgery that would have fixed the pain in my back and arm that has plagues me for years. However, things did not go according to plan this morning and I am left sitting here, back at square one this evening.

"Last night I went into hospital, got admitted, got given a bed and had a few tests done, and one last MRI scan. Everything was set, and this morning, after having not slept all night (hospitals aren't exactly fun to sleep in) I was going through the operation prep this morning, had my ECG, had psyched myself up and was all ready to go with 30 minutes to an hour until they were going to take me in when suddenly i found out that the disc replacement surgery to them meant inserting a small cage in place of the damaged disc and then letting the bones fuse together. Now neck fusion is not what I had believed was going to happen for the past 9 months since the diagnosis, and from everything I have read about it reduces neck mobility and ends up with the other discs getting worn resulting in needing more fusions. Cradle Of Filth Guitarist Undergoing Surgery

Cradle of Filth has issued the following announcement about guitarist James McIlroy undergoing surgery:

"Tomorrow, March the fifteenth, James Mcilroy, guitar hairwolf, will be having the delicate operation to repair his spine carried out, the very same shit that has kept him absent from the recent tour of Europe, and caused him so much pain over playing the last few years.

"Pressed, though obviously not too heavily, on the subject, James had this to say when he emailed me this evening with the news...

Anyway I am going into hospital today as they've graciously decided to give me a bed, and will be going into surgery tomorrow late morning or early afternoon. Operation lasts about 3-5 hours, and I should be back among the living on Sunday. It kind of goes something like this:

All the support, and well wishes from across the world, the band and crewdle has been amazing, and I couldn't wish for more support in my quest to obtain a similar 360 degree head movement of an owl (if you're going to get part of your neck replaced, you may as well upgrade)! After this, I'll also technically be more metal...

Thanks to everyone, and see you on the other side, ready to fucking rock!

"I hope you all can join with the band in wishing him well in advance of the operation and in a speedy recovery. We miss the lashing windmills!"
