Florida metallers The Absence have issued the following announcement about letting a fan play guitar on their upcoming album:
"What's up, Shredders!
"Anyone that knows The Absence knows we love our fans. Let's face it, you guys are why we do what we do. So whenever we get the chance we always like to show our gratitude any way we can.
"Since we know a ton of our fans are guitarists, this time around we thought it would be cool to give you a little piece of the action. So...while working on pre-production for our newest record 'Enemy Unbound' we left a section open for a guest guitar lead from one of you!
"The contest is pretty simple. Download the backing guitar riff at this location, come up with your coolest guitar lead over it, upload it to YouTube.com and we'll pick the winner!
"Runners up will receive goodies like autographed CDs, shirts and stickers!"
A video clip about the contest can also be viewed below. More...
The Absence wants you to know that they're headed into the studio...finally. They were supposed to record this past March but were spending more time to make their songs sound as great as could be. They plan to hit the studio in early September. But they're offering a great contest for fans who can shred.
"I stated earlier this year that we had some Ideas to get the fans involved with the record. Well I guess its time to let the cat out of the bag. We have alot of fans that are guitar players. We thought it would be cool to let them show off the talents that they have. We are holding a contest for our fans to track a guest lead on our new record. We will be releasing the exact details on this contest next week. For now let me just give you the rough Idea of the contest. There will be a demo track section to a song that we will be releasing via-Internet that the fans will be able to download. They will then have to post the lead they come up with on youtube. We will be judging all the leads based on Originality, Melody and Technical ability. If you ask me I think that's pretty F'n cool."
We will keep you informed when the "rough details" have been smoothed out.

The "Fresh Meat Tour," featuring The Absence, Epicurean, The Destro, and Rose Funeral has officially been cancelled. The Absence has released the following statement:
"First, let us say that we absolutely hate to cancel tours and shows. We love our fans and try so hard to make it to everyone that wants to see us. Alright, so here's the deal everyone... Yes, we have once again had to cancel a tour. BUT, We are quite sick of candy coating everything and making it seem like it's really our fault. First, Rose Funeral had to drop off due to some personal reasons, we wish them the best. As well as, Epicurean having to drop off. After all said and done, The Absence and The Destro decided it wouldn't be worth the 7-8 sometimes 10-12 hour drives between shows for very small amounts of money. These small amounts of money would not even cover gas to get to the next show. Everyone knows how high gas prices are at this time so we need not go into that any further.
"This month-long tour was eventually turned into a 13 day tour after shows and venues were cancelling left and right due to the fact that some booking agents can't do their jobs correctly and end up dealing with 15 year old promoters who are not yet experienced enough with putting on shows that include 4 national acts and have the show be a success. It just doesnt happen. No, we are not 'rockstars.' But we do expect our guaranteed amount of money and decent meals every show. We sometimes drive all night and play shows exhausted as hell to make sure all of our fans are happy. And when our fans are happy we know we've done our job and have no room to complain. But when we can't even afford to get to the first show and probably cant afford to make it home, there's a problem.
"We just can't stay quiet and say we had to drop off for reasons that aren't true. It's all the 'behind the scenes' politics that fans don't realize happen or see. Booking agents dropped the ball. Not the bands. Bottom line. We hope you all understand and still support us and the other bands that were supposed to be apart of this tour as well.
"So, we're sorry to all of you that wont be able to see us this time around but we promise you we'll be back around in the end of 2008 with a full US/Canadian tour."
Florida based metal band INFERNAEON have announced the addition of several new members including Jeramie Kling formerly of The Absence. The bands front man Brian Werner had this to say, “After that last Pyrexia tour we had a cancer within the band that needed to be removed forcefully which threatened everything that this band is trying to accomplish. Our drummer at the time ended up getting the job with Malevolent Creation, so you can’t fault him for that. Sam and Brian just wanted to go in different directions and we wish them the best of luck. Seriously, we hope those guys find what they’re looking for. We have Chris Default from Divine Empire back in the band, who was an original member and wrote most of these songs anyways as well as Jeramie from The Absence who is straight up a seriously cool motherfucker and one of the best drummers I’ve heard in a while.”
The band also welcomes to the fold guitar player and long time friend Erick Leider to replace Sam Molina and Dave Stein on Keyboards.
“These guys are some of the most dedicated musicians I’ve worked with in a while. They take their trade seriously which makes working with them so much easier than before. I’ve known Erick for the better part of 10 years and when I asked him if he wanted to do this, he quit his job, cleaned out his bank account, left his woman and moved to the other side of the country to be a part of this. Not to mention Dave is Kevin’s brother so it’s cool to have some blood in the band.”
The band is currently on tour supporting their latest album, "A Symphony of Suffering," on Prosthetic Records. The band will be supporting Skinless and Vital Remains for the week and then finishing up with Fierce Allegiance on their way home to Florida.
“We have a shit load of touring coming up this summer and well into the fall. We can’t announce it yet until everything confirms, but we should be very active for the rest of the year. See you fuckers soon. We have a ton of new merch available at Indiemerch.com”

Tampa, Florida-based melodic thrash metal band THE ABSENCE has issued the following update:
"Well, a lot of people have written us asking how the drummer search is going. We had some good drummers show up to the audition on [February] 3rd. We video taped all of them and watched the videos. After all the auditions we found a guy who just nailed the songs very well and we have been rehearsing with him every week since. His name is Justin Reynolds. The kid is wicked good and keeps time very well without a click track. That is a quality you don't find often in a drummer."
"So now that the drummer search is over, get ready for THE ABSENCE to start touring again and bringing headbanging metal to your town! We are all excited and feel like a huge weight has been lifted off our shoulders. We can't wait to hit the road soon."
"Thanks to all the drummers who came out to the audition. We appreciate your efforts."
