Morbid Angel Drummer Undergoes Back Surgery

Tampa, Florida based death metallers Morbid Angel have issued the following update about their drummer undergoing back surgery:

"World Management and Morbid Angel would like to let the fans know that rumors about Pedro Sandoval's back surgery are in fact true. Pete has suffered for a long time with a deteriorating disc problem. He was in daily pain and needed to have this done. He has recently been treated by a Laser Back Surgery specialist in Tampa Florida. He is currently in rehabilitation and doing well. Pete is part of our family and the band¹s History and we all wish him well and a full recovery. Unfortunately this type of injury, subsequent surgery and rehab cannot be rushed and it will take ample time for him to hopefully be back behind his drums again and out on tour with Morbid Angel.

"The band is moving forward on their next recording with Tim Yeung. Currently the guys are in rehearsals in Tampa putting their finishing touches on the songs for the New album, which is slated for later this year with subsequent touring world wide."

Zyklon Calls It A Day

Norwegian metal outfit Zyklon has announced that they have decided to call it a day, after the band had been inactive for some time. A message from guitarist Samoth (also formerly of Emperor) reads as follows:

"After taking an offical break over two years ago, it has now become the reality that Zyklon is no longer a functional band, and thus the decision is made to formaly split up the band, instead of just letting it decend into nothingness. As a final release from the band, Candlelight Records will later this year put out a boxset, entitled The Storm Manifesto, including all three full-length albums with various bonus material. Zyklon played its final show in Tokyo, Japan on September 28th, 2007.

"All members of Zyklon are still active on various fronts. Samoth is currently in the studio working on the debut album for his new project, The Wretched End. Destructhor is still touring with Morbid Angel, and is still planning to complete a new Myrkskog album with Secthdamon. Trym is mainly working in his tattoo shop, but is scheduled to appear in a new music project soon."

Morbid Angel Guitarist Questions The Metal Scene

Morbid Angel guitarist Trey Azagthoth has posted a lengthy blog on his Myspace asking whether or not the Metal scene is close minded. You can read the blog below.

"Is the metal scene close minded????

"Well, is it????
My purpose with this blog is that I have a desire to create some live performance concerts sometime in the future that include a set of Morbid Angel along with sets of the most extreme representatives of industrial, hardcore, terrorcore, jungle drum and bass etc DJs and groups.

"Well, so it seems there are certain promoters and so called "authorities of the scene" who have some idea that such a gig wont work. Saying that metal people are narrow-minded and hate the various forms of Hardcore DJ Music for one reason or another. Is this true???
People who know me know I am already a freaky freak artist and so then such an idea for crossing over such types of music is amazing,. Exciting!!! More...

Morbid Angel Announces New Guitarist

Morbid Angel have revealed that longtime Zyklon guitarist Destructhor (also known as Thor Anders Myhren).

Frontman David Vincent has said: “The hunt for another guitarist to play alongside Trey (Azagthoth, the band’s primary songwriter) was long and difficult. Man, I tell you, we had tapes sent to us from all over the world from guys who wanted to play in our band, and many of them were extremely talented – but Thor was the right choice for us. He’s a fantastic guitarist and fits right in with the band. Also, Zyklon have supported Morbid Angel in the past, so the guys knew each other already.”

Slayer Confirmed For Gods Of Metal Festival

Los Angeles thrash metal legends SLAYER have been confirmed for the Gods of Metal festival, set to take place June 27-29, 2008 in Bologna, Italy. The festival billing is now shaping up as follows:

Friday, June 27:

Saturday, June 28:

Sunday, June 29:

National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences members have nominated SLAYER for the band's third Grammy Award. The SLAYER track, "The Final Six", from the group's 2007 limited-edition "Christ Illusion", was nominated in the category of "Best Metal Performance."

"The Final Six", written by Tom Araya and guitarist Jeff Hanneman and produced by Josh Abraham, is a chilling look at an hypothesized end of the world. The song made its debut last July as the "Single of the Week" on MySpace where it has since accumulated some 750,000 plays, an astounding number for a song that received no commercial airplay.

"When I first got the word, I thought someone was playing a joke," mused Araya. "But obviously, we've made an impression on the industry. The people at the upper levels have taken notice of what we've done, and that's awesome."

SLAYER's two previous Grammy nominations were for 2002's "Disciple" from the album "God Hates Us All", and last year's "Eyes of the Insane", for which they took home the Grammy Award.
