Band Photo: Lacuna Coil (?)
From: Milan, Italy
Last Known Status: Active
Originally formed in 1996, the band teamed up with producer Waldemar Sorychta (Sentenced, Samael, Tiamat) in 1998. Terrorizer Magazine hailed Lacuna Coil's self-titled debut as "superb, and its strength soon weakens whatever resistance you may have had after repeated plays." In 1999, The album In A Reverie was released with the same producer. They played at the Dynamo Open Air Festival in The Netherlands, the Metal Mania Festival in Poland, and Italy's prestigious Gods Of Metal Festival, and the Altheimer Open Air Festival. They released the Halflife EP, which was recorded in Italy with a new producer, to their European community of fans in the year 2000.
In 2001, they released Unleashed Memories with their original producer, this album (released in North America with the previously unavailable Halflife EP). Praised by Alternative Press for their "supersize chords that nearly burst into flame, gorgeous three-part harmonies and chill-inducing melodies that recycle in your head for days" and earning a special mention in Billboard Magazine's Hard Music Spotlight for their "compelling mixture of seductive melodies and aggressive riffs," the band embarked on their first North American tour with Moonspell in the winter of 2001. Metal Maniacs documented their live show to be "a sensory overload of the highest order. In one word: intoxicating."
Lacuna Coil creates a dream-like quality of the world, which floods you with a myriad of heavy and hypnotic sounds. The epic feel of their latest melodic invention, Comalies, will quickly lead to you believe that an incredibly personal epiphany is about to happen. Each song contributes to the build-up, encouraging introspection while documenting the sadness that this particular journey uncovers. Upholding the emotive yin/yang tradition of vocal interplay between the dulcet tones of Cristina Scabbia and the deliberate vocals of her male singing partner Andrea Ferro, Comalies is another dynamic exploration of Lacuna Coil's soulfully somber and stunningly enigmatic musical alchemy.

According to a posting at EmptySpiral.net, LACUNA COIL appeared on the premier Italian radio show "Radio Deejay" on Wednesday (May 31). In addition to being interviewed, the band performed a short acoustic set, which included the songs "Within Me" and "Closer". You can view a video of the interview (in Italian) and the acoustic version of "Within Me" on the "Radio Deejay" site.
LACUNA COIL recently hit the state of the art Music Choice studios in New York City to record a live version of their hit single "Our Truth", which will be accessible throughout the month of June on Music Choice On-Demand, the most-popular free video-on-demand music service available in millions of digital cable homes nationwide with access to on-demand programming from Music Choice. LACUNA COIL just wrapped up a massive six-week, sold-out U.S. tour as direct support to ROB ZOMBIE, which will lead them into a main stage slot at this year's Ozzfest. Their latest album, "Karmacode", had a phenomenal first week at retail, moving an impressive 34,000 units via Nielsen SoundScan and securing the No. 28 spot on The Billboard 200 chart. It has since sold a total of 88,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
It comes as little surprise that Avenged Sevenfold have been officially confirmed as the mystery band on the main stage for Ozzfest 2006. The real surprise announcement is that power metal band Dragonforce, recently signed to Roadrunner Records in North America and rumored to be joining Gigantour 2006, has been added as the main stage opener as well.
Ozzy Osbourne is now slated to headline the second stage on three dates (replacing some dates that he was previously thought to be headlining the main stage):
July 8 - San Bernardino, CA's Hyundai Pavilion of Glen Helen
July 11 - San Antonio, TX at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater
July 22 - East Troy, WI at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre
OZZY says, "After 10 years of headlining Ozzfest's main-stage I think it's time for a change. I haven't had a chance to play this close to an audience in years and I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to it."
Also announced is that Ozzfest emcee Big Dave and professional Ozzfest party guy, Eddie, have begun their nationwide search visiting 19 of the festival's 26 cities to find the first-ever Miss Ozzfest. The duo will be accepting entries and taking photographs of Miss Ozzfest candidates in each city. Throughout the summer the Ozzfest fans can vote for your favorites at Ozzfest.com. All entries collected from Big Dave and Eddie will be posted for you to vote on. The top three in each city will be awarded FREE tickets to the show in their city, where at some point during the evening's festivities, the three contestants will be presented on stage to the fans who will vote on a winner. Photos of each winning contestant, including the top vote getters from Raleigh and West Palm Beach, will be posted once again on Ozzfest.com, where fans can pick their Miss Ozzfest 2006. Final voting will be held at Ozzfest.com on August 7 and 8. The winning beauty will be awarded the grand prize and receive round trip airfare and accommodations for her and a guest to attend the year's final show August 13 in West Palm Beach where she'll be crowned Miss Ozzfest 2006.

BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE were removed from the ROB ZOMBIE tour with LACUNA COIL after the band's guitarist/vocalist Matthew "Matt" Tuck slammed ROB ZOMBIE in an online post. Tuck claimed that his band was "not being treated well" on the ZOMBIE tour and calling the headliners "money-grabbing fucks" for allegedly seling their t-shirts for $40 a piece and making the support bands do the same. "As I write this, I'm sitting on the fuckin' floor of the venue 'coz we don't have a dressing room again, 'coz fuckin' Zombie takes them all for him, his band and crew," Tuck wrote at the time. "Basically, we are shit to him, but fuck it — if this is what it takes to get a name over here, then it's gotta be done. I'm not one to fuck around with words, so yes, we are not being treated well on this tour. Oh yeah, we don't get a soundcheck either. Fuckin' pissed at this tour, man."
A few hours after making his original post, Tuck returned to BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE's official message board to apologize to Rob and Zombie's crew for his earlier remarks, explaining, "I was really out of it this morning and let shit on the road fuck with my hung-over head. I'm truly sorry if any of my comments about this tour were out of line and totally exaggerated. This is our first real tour in the States and with lots of personal shit happening to me from home I just lost it. We really have been totally fuckin' thrilled to have the chance to play on this tour and are grateful for every new fan we make. It means everything to us to be able to play our shit for new fans. I'm really sorry to have offended anyone and look forward to putting this behind and getting back to the metal." More...

QUEENSRŸCHE's "Operation: Mindcrime II" has sold 44,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at No. 14 on next week's The Billboard 200 chart. This is more than half of the total sales tally registered by the band's last studio album, 2003's "Tribe", which sold 20,000 copies in the first week and has shifted less than 75,000 units so far, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Meanwhile, the band's 1999 effort, "Q2K", opened with sales of 28,000 and has sold 150,000 copies to date.
QUEENSRŸCHE's top-selling album by far is 1990's "Empire", which was certified triple-platinum in October 1994 for sales in excess of three million copies in the United States. In other chart news, LACUNA COIL's "Karmacode" shifted just under 34,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at No. 28 on next week's The Billboard 200 chart. A representative for the group's record label, Century Media, recently told Billboard magazine that the album has sold 500,000 units worldwide.
LACUNA COIL will be on the cover of at least a half-dozen metal magazines this spring. In addition, an April appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" and a segment of "The Mix" on ABC News are slated, according to Billboard.
Another notable debut on this week's chart is POISON's 18-track collection, "The Best of Poison: 20 Years of Rock", which commemorates POISON's 20th anniversary and the band's career tally of more than 25 million albums and DVDs sold around the world. The album, which packs the group's biggest hits and fan favorites, opens with nearly 40,000 copies to debut at No. 17 on next week's chart.
POISON's "Greatest Hits 1986-1996" collection, which was originally released in November 1996, was officially certified double-platinum in November 2005 by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) for shipments in excess of two million copies in the United States.

FHM caught up with Lacuna Coil frontwoman Cristina Scabbia, and asked the singer how she's treated by her male fans. "They're nice in front of me," she said.
