Band Photo: Lacuna Coil (?)
From: Milan, Italy
Last Known Status: Active
Originally formed in 1996, the band teamed up with producer Waldemar Sorychta (Sentenced, Samael, Tiamat) in 1998. Terrorizer Magazine hailed Lacuna Coil's self-titled debut as "superb, and its strength soon weakens whatever resistance you may have had after repeated plays." In 1999, The album In A Reverie was released with the same producer. They played at the Dynamo Open Air Festival in The Netherlands, the Metal Mania Festival in Poland, and Italy's prestigious Gods Of Metal Festival, and the Altheimer Open Air Festival. They released the Halflife EP, which was recorded in Italy with a new producer, to their European community of fans in the year 2000.
In 2001, they released Unleashed Memories with their original producer, this album (released in North America with the previously unavailable Halflife EP). Praised by Alternative Press for their "supersize chords that nearly burst into flame, gorgeous three-part harmonies and chill-inducing melodies that recycle in your head for days" and earning a special mention in Billboard Magazine's Hard Music Spotlight for their "compelling mixture of seductive melodies and aggressive riffs," the band embarked on their first North American tour with Moonspell in the winter of 2001. Metal Maniacs documented their live show to be "a sensory overload of the highest order. In one word: intoxicating."
Lacuna Coil creates a dream-like quality of the world, which floods you with a myriad of heavy and hypnotic sounds. The epic feel of their latest melodic invention, Comalies, will quickly lead to you believe that an incredibly personal epiphany is about to happen. Each song contributes to the build-up, encouraging introspection while documenting the sadness that this particular journey uncovers. Upholding the emotive yin/yang tradition of vocal interplay between the dulcet tones of Cristina Scabbia and the deliberate vocals of her male singing partner Andrea Ferro, Comalies is another dynamic exploration of Lacuna Coil's soulfully somber and stunningly enigmatic musical alchemy.
Latest Lacuna Coil News
Below is our complete Lacuna Coil news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Note: We began associating news directly with bands in late 2003. Therefore, earlier band news may not be listed on this page.
Glenn Danzig announced that a special 2006 west coast-only edition of the "Blackest of the Black" tour will kick off on November 17 in Seattle, WA. Headliner Danzig - Glenn Danzig/vocals, former Samhaim bandmate Steve Zing on bass, and Type O Negative's Johnny Kelly/drums and Kenny Hickey/guitar - will be joined by Lacuna Coil, The Haunted, Belphegor, and Asesino.
This is the third year of Danzig's highly successful "Blackest of the Black" tour. The festival was organized by Danzig and debuted in the summer of 2003 with Danzig, Superjoint Ritual, Opeth, Nile, Lacuna Coil and Behemoth on the bill. The 2005 edition featured Danzig, Chimaira, Behemoth, Himsa, Mortiis (ex-Emperor), and The Agony Scene.
"'The Blackest of the Black' tour is for extreme bands that sell out venues across the country, that sell records, but don't get radio play or get on MTV," said Danzig. "It's anti the corporate crap nu-rap-metal that gets shoved down fans' throats at other concerts."
In addition to organizing and headlining the "Blackest of the Black" tour, Glenn Danzig will see the October 17 release of "Black Aria II" (evillive), the follow up to 1993's "Black Aria," which debuted at Number One on the Billboard Classical chart. Produced, written and - with a couple of exceptions - performed by Glenn, "Black Aria II" employs thundering organ, otherworldly chants, operatic lamentations, poignant strings, ominous percussion, ritualistic chimes and other mysterious sounds, to tell the story of a rebel of ancient lore - Lilith, Adam's wife before Eve.
Danzig has also released his "3 Faces of Danzig," a limited edition, fully-articulated toy figure series that highlights different eras of Glenn's career - "Misfits-version" Danzig which wears his classic skull-and-crossbones black T-shirt from the Misfits' "Walk Among Us" album cover; "Samhain-version" Danzig, covered in dripping blood ala the "Initium" LP cover, and "Danzig-version" Danzig, which is shirtless and comes complete with the trademark Danzig belt buckle and upside-down-cross medallion necklace as on the "Lucifuge" album. The figures are made of soft vinyl, stand 10-inches tall and retail for $75.00 each, and are available in stores such as Spencer Gifts, Hot Topic, comic book/specialty stores, and on the Chaser website.
Confirmed dates for the 2006 "Blackest of the Black" tour are as follows: More...

Another year, another Ozzfest. After a star-studded lineup for its ten year anniversary last year, Ozzfest was faced with the challenge of putting together yet another great lineup for its eleventh year. When I went to Bristow, VA on Sunday, August 6, 2006, I was wondering just how good a lineup they managed to scrape together. I knew the bands that were playing, but the real question remained whether the main stage bands could hold their own with primarily younger, nu-metal bands on it and Ozzy closing out the second stage.
The temperatures had fortunately dropped from the 105F degree humid days of only a few days earlier, but the sky was crystal clear for most of the day and the intense sun beating down on you in the 90F degree temperatures was still enough to take a lot out of you and require constant re-hydration. On Sunday, July 23, the annual metal-gods tour known as Ozzfest, minus Ozzy, of course, rolled through Indianapolis, and the event passed without much out of the ordinary. The day saw a couple of fights, a lot of marijuana, a whole lot of ignorant people who harassed event staff at every turn, and a lot of people waiting to see the last three bands of the night without any knowledge of who played the second and early main stages—a typical Ozzfest. LACUNA COIL recently hit the state of the art Music Choice studios in New York City to record a live version of their hit single "Our Truth", which will be accessible throughout the month of June on Music Choice On-Demand, the most-popular free video-on-demand music service available in millions of digital cable homes nationwide with access to on-demand programming from Music Choice. LACUNA COIL just wrapped up a massive six-week, sold-out U.S. tour as direct support to ROB ZOMBIE, which will lead them into a main stage slot at this year's Ozzfest. Their latest album, "Karmacode", had a phenomenal first week at retail, moving an impressive 34,000 units via Nielsen SoundScan and securing the No. 28 spot on The Billboard 200 chart. It has since sold a total of 88,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
It comes as little surprise that Avenged Sevenfold have been officially confirmed as the mystery band on the main stage for Ozzfest 2006. The real surprise announcement is that power metal band Dragonforce, recently signed to Roadrunner Records in North America and rumored to be joining Gigantour 2006, has been added as the main stage opener as well.
Ozzy Osbourne is now slated to headline the second stage on three dates (replacing some dates that he was previously thought to be headlining the main stage):

July 11 - San Antonio, TX at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater
July 22 - East Troy, WI at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre
OZZY says, "After 10 years of headlining Ozzfest's main-stage I think it's time for a change. I haven't had a chance to play this close to an audience in years and I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to it."

The duo will be accepting entries and taking photographs of Miss Ozzfest candidates in each city. Throughout the summer the Ozzfest fans can vote for your favorites at Ozzfest.com. All entries collected from Big Dave and Eddie will be posted for you to vote on. The top three in each city will be awarded FREE tickets to the show in their city, where at some point during the evening's festivities, the three contestants will be presented on stage to the fans who will vote on a winner. Photos of each winning contestant, including the top vote getters from Raleigh and West Palm Beach, will be posted once again on Ozzfest.com, where fans can pick their Miss Ozzfest 2006. Final voting will be held at Ozzfest.com on August 7 and 8. The winning beauty will be awarded the grand prize and receive round trip airfare and accommodations for her and a guest to attend the year's final show August 13 in West Palm Beach where she'll be crowned Miss Ozzfest 2006.

BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE were removed from the ROB ZOMBIE tour with LACUNA COIL after the band's guitarist/vocalist Matthew "Matt" Tuck slammed ROB ZOMBIE in an online post. Tuck claimed that his band was "not being treated well" on the ZOMBIE tour and calling the headliners "money-grabbing fucks" for allegedly seling their t-shirts for $40 a piece and making the support bands do the same. "As I write this, I'm sitting on the fuckin' floor of the venue 'coz we don't have a dressing room again, 'coz fuckin' Zombie takes them all for him, his band and crew," Tuck wrote at the time. "Basically, we are shit to him, but fuck it — if this is what it takes to get a name over here, then it's gotta be done. I'm not one to fuck around with words, so yes, we are not being treated well on this tour. Oh yeah, we don't get a soundcheck either. Fuckin' pissed at this tour, man."
A few hours after making his original post, Tuck returned to BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE's official message board to apologize to Rob and Zombie's crew for his earlier remarks, explaining, "I was really out of it this morning and let shit on the road fuck with my hung-over head. I'm truly sorry if any of my comments about this tour were out of line and totally exaggerated. This is our first real tour in the States and with lots of personal shit happening to me from home I just lost it. We really have been totally fuckin' thrilled to have the chance to play on this tour and are grateful for every new fan we make. It means everything to us to be able to play our shit for new fans. I'm really sorry to have offended anyone and look forward to putting this behind and getting back to the metal." More...
