Playing death metal that's often compared with fellow Finns Children of Bodom, Cryhavoc began in 1992 under the moniker Preprophecy and released a series of demos: "A Tomb of Sanity" (1993), "Season of Sorrows" (1994) and a promo demo (1995). After the departure of drummer Matti Roiha (Babylon Whores) and bassist Taneli Nyholm in 1996, the band changed their name to Ravenfall after the positions were filled with Absurdus members and released another promo demo in that same year. Ravenfall's new members had to leave Ravenfall as Absurdus was receiving label attention and so drummer Pauli Tolvanen and ex-guitarist Kari was added and the band changed their name to Cryhavoc, release two full-length albums, "Sweetbriers (1998) and "Pitch-black Blues" (1999).
