Below is our complete Shining news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Sweden's Shining (not to be confused with the Norwegian band of the same name that recently released the "One One One" album) will be teaming up with Dark Essence Records to release a new full-length album.
The band today reveals the cover art by Michal Pawlowski, available below. To be titled “8 ½ – Feberdrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd,” the album will be released in both CD and limited edition black or white 12” vinyl versions, with liner notes by Niklas Kvarforth, and is set to appear on the 23rd of September. All three versions are now available to pre-order from Dark Essence Records at this location or direct from the band here.
While the use of the number 8 ½ may seem a little strange to denote what would effectively be a 9th full-length album from the band, its use is deliberate because “8 ½ – Feberdrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd” is a rather special beast from Shining, consisting as it does of six songs from the “Livets Ändhållplats” and “Angst” era in their original pre-production versions but with the addition of newly recorded bass and guitars, as well as Lars Fredrik Fröslie’s keyboards, which the band didn’t start using until its sixth album.
Additionally, the vocals on each of the tracks will be performed by six different vocalists who have added their own interpretation and given a totally different dimension to all the songs. It’s a project that the Shining founder and frontman has wanted to do for many years now, and according to a press release also "serves as a kick in the teeth to all the bootleggers who have tried to illegally earn money for themselves off the back of the band’s hard work and creativity." Sweden's Shining has revealed the artwork for the band's upcoming split with Mortuary Drape as well as posting a teaser for a new track.
Titled “In the Eerie Cold Where All the Witches Dance” and set for release on Primitive Art Records, the 7” vinyl will contain an exclusive track from each of the bands. The two tracks will only be released on the split and will not appear on any album.
Commenting about the Shining track on the original announcement of the split, front man and founder Niklas Kvarforth said: “In 1998 a song was written which was intended for inclusion on our first album. However, somehow we were not able to record it properly, which forced us to re-record 'Endless Solitude' instead. At the next Abyss session we faced the same problem and after that, the then-titled 'One With The Endless,' was left out as we were certain the song had a curse written all over it. Quite recently, we gave it a third shot, and this time the curse was embraced instead of the opposite. A strange phenomena reinventing itself in every way possible, and, for some odd reason, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t write any suitable lyrics, and once again considered leaving it be. I did however have a very close friend of mine in the studio who not only came up with a new lyrical theme for the song but was also given my full blessings to sing it." More...

Sweden’s Shining has today announced that the band's new album will be called “Redefining Darkness.” Unlike all previous Shining albums, “Redefining Darkness,” which will be the band’s eighth full-length release, will not preface its title with a number.
According to founder and front man Niklas Kvarforth “The use of numbers to describe our albums is no longer something that Shining is interested in doing. The new album is without a doubt the darkest thing I have ever done or heard. People will be upset for sure – and hopefully its divine genius will destroy the lives of thousands."
“Redefining Darkness” is set for release on Spinefarm Records International later this year. In other news from the band, a new website has been set up at this location.
Shining’s next live appearance will take place at Summer-Breeze in Dinkelsbuehl, Germany on Saturday August 18th, followed by the Bunker Festival in Oslo, Norway on the 25th August. The official video for the track “Förtvivlan Min Arvedel” from the Shining album “VII / Född Förlorare” can be seen here.
Swedish black metal band Shining has updated its studio blog (which can be followed by heading over to this location), including video studio updates. The band are currently recording an eighth studio effort and the follow up to the 2011 release "VII: Född Förlorare."
The band's latest diary entry reads:
"Yup, we have reached our first milestone - all album track drums have now been recorded!
"Yesterday was a cheerful day compared to the somewhat gloomy Tuesday. The final drum recordings went extremely well (which was of course to be expected from a real pro such as Ludwig!), and once everything was in the can Niklas took Witt out for a well deserved dinner to celebrate.
"It is not time for Ludwig to go home just yet though, Thursday will start the drum recordings for some extra tracks and surprises that Shining has in store for all...
"On a slightly sadder note it seems that Shining's not-so-new-anymore bassist Christian has fallen victim to a throat virus that has been circling around in Sweden, which forced him to stay in bed whilst all others went to town. By the powers invested us by paracetamol and vitamin supplements, we wish that he would become a healthy young man very soon again...
"Things were cheerful enough for all after the dinner though as the guys bought some new movies and all spent the evening watching such gloomy classics as 'Get Him to the Greek' and 'The Naked Gun'.
"I cannot emphasize enough how good "Get Him to the Greek" is - but you'll probably get the idea after I post up Wednesday's video blog today.
"Until then, keep up the good work, you've been very busy watching and commenting the blog both in here and in Facebook! All of the guys are eagerly looking forward to all contributions and questions you have made.
"So, as always, keep watching this space, and "Does anyone remember the lyrics to 'African Child'?!?"

Shining has announced that the band will start work on a second video in October of this year, which follows the previously posted "Fortvivlan, Min Arvede" video. The new video will be shot for the track “Tillsammans Är Vi Allt” from Shining's seventh full length album “VII / Född Förlorare.”
The song will be filmed both during a live concert and in a studio setting. Martin Strandberg will once again be directing, together with Shining founder and front man Niklas Kvarforth. Production will be handled by Jussi Hyttinen of FLC415. The live footage will be filmed at a Shining concert at the Club Nosturi in Helsinki, Finland, on the 5th October, when the band will end the evening by playing “Tillsammans Är Vi Allt” several times in order for it to be filmed. Fans wanting to attend the show and the filming will be able to get tickets at this location.
Joining Shining live on stage for the filming will be Nordman (Håkan Hemlin), one of Sweden’s top pop stars, who originally guested on the track on the album.
Shining has previously announced the upcoming June release of the new single "Förtvivlan, Min Arvedel," which will also include a cover of Alice Cooper's "Prince of Darkness." The artwork for the single is now available online and can be viewed below.
Shining also recently posted a music video online for "Förtvivlan, Min Arvedel." You can check out the clip by heading over to this location.
Sweden’s Shining has released a music video for the first time in the band's 15 year history. The video for the track “Förtvivlan, Min Arvedel” can be viewed in the player below, and was directed by Martin Strandberg and Niklas Kvarforth, produced by Martin Strandberg, and created by Black Shadows Film productions. The track is taken from the new album “VII / Född Förlorare.” The censored version is also available here.
“We know we are going to get heavily criticized for some of the scenes” commented front man and founder Niklas Kvarforth, “but it’s nothing more than you will see as soon as you switch on a television or watch a move, or walk down a city street come to that. But we’re Shining and it’s always open season on Shining when it comes to people who have neither understood, nor taken the time to try and understand, where the band is coming from."
Shining's seventh full length album “VII / Född Förlorare,” which in English means “Born Loser,” was released this month on the band’s new label Spinefarm Records, and includes guest appearances from Erik Danielsson of Watain, Chris Amott of Arch Enemy, Peter Bjärgö of Arcana, and Swedish pop star Nordman. The band also recently announced that it would be releasing its first ever single.
Shining, which recently shot a music video to be released later this month, is set to release a new single containing two songs. The tracks on the single include "Förtvivlan, Min Arvedel," taken from the new album "VII / Född Förlorare," while the second will be a previously un-released cover of the Alice Cooper song "Prince of Darkness."
This will be the first time that Shining has released a single, and founder and front man Niklas Kvarforth is hopeful that the new video will be included along with the two tracks. Kvarforth stated, "We are trying to get the video included, but the people behind the single are a little nervous, and probably quite rightly so given its subject matter and content. We are looking into the possibility of maybe including a censored version. We'll see how that pans out, but whatever happens, the uncensored version will definitely appear very soon, so Shining fans who have been waiting for it, will not be disappointed."

Shining has checked in with the following brief update about filming a new music video to be released in May:
"Filming for the new Shining video has been completed, and the video, which uses a track from the new album, will make its debut on the 25th May.
"The video might not be the most extreme thing you will ever see, but it will definitely be one of the most uncomfortable."
Shining also recently posted a new song online titled "Förtvivlan, Min Arvedel," which can be heard at this location.
Following on from the recent news that Shining had parted company with Indie Recordings and signed with Spinefarm Records, the band has debuted a track from the forthcoming album "VII / Född Förlorare," which in English means "Born Loser." The track, "Förtvivlan, Min Arvedel" can be heard in the player below. Vocalist Niklas Kvarforth also recently quit all his other bands in order to focus on shining.
All the music and lyrics for "VII / Född Förlorare," which is due for release on the 25th May, were written by front man Niklas Kvarforth, and the album was recorded over what the band describes as "three long years" inside the Slaughterhouse studios in Sweden, with Rickard Bengtsson once again producing.
Kvarforth himself defines the finished result as "The" Shining album. "It is", he commented, "the natural successor to our fifth album 'V/Halmstad,' rather than to our last release 'VI/Klagopsalmer,' which I have always thought of as more of an experiment both in terms of writing and performance." It was previously announced that vocalist Niklas Kvarforth has quit Bethlehem and Den Saakaldte in order to focus on his main band Shining. Guitarist Mikael Sykelig of Den Saakaldte has now checked in with the following brief statement about the future of the band:
"For some people that asked... Yes, we also say that Niklas has decided to deal with just Shining from now on. He is still our good friend and everything's fine between Niklas and us.
"New challenges and new era are coming up...or maybe we will just kill the band. We don't know yet... We will let you know."
You can also check out the band's music by heading over to the official Den Saakaldte MySpace Profile.
It was previously announced that vocalist Niklas Kvarforth has parted ways with the band Bethlhehem. Niklas has now checked in with the following announcement about leaving all other projects, including his post with Den Saakaldte, in order to focus on the band Shining:
"A lot of things have been happening recently with Shining, and the rapid growth of the band over the last year, and the commitment that Shining now requires of me has meant that it has become impractical for me to continue working as vocalist with other bands.
"This includes my work with Bethlehem who themselves realized that the band could not continue with myself on vocals. Bethlehem is still my all-time favorite band and I wish them all the best for the future. I will also be quitting as front man for Den Saakaldte.
"From now on, therefore, I will only be making occasional guest vocal appearances on albums by other bands, and my priority will be Shining. My work with Maniac's band Skitliv will not be affected, however, as the vocals and the bulk of the creative work is in his hands.
"As always, myself and the band very much appreciate all the support the fans are giving Shining and their patience in waiting for the release of VII, and there will be some very good news regarding this very shortly"

After previously discussing the band's new album being delayed, Shining's Niklas Kvarforth has now issued the following statement clarifying the situation:
"We have spoken to our producer regarding 'Shining VII' and have come to realize that he is also not to blame for the delay in finishing the album, but rather that it has been caused by a lack of communication between all the parties concerned – these being the label, the producer and ourselves.
"We are happy with the outcome of our discussions, and expect that the album will be fully mixed and mastered by the second week in January, after which time we will hopefully be able to get more information regarding a release date. In the meantime, we would like to thank all the fans for their patience and for all the messages we have been receiving over the past months."
Shining is set to tour with fellow Swedes Watain in February and March of next year. Dates so far confirmed are as follows: More...
Swedish black metal act Shining has posted the following update online;
"As everyone is more than aware, 'Shining VII' has been delayed an unacceptably long time. There have been a lot of rumours as to why this should be, so we have decided to set the record straight once and for all.
"Despite the fact that the album was recorded two years ago, it has still not been mixed. Our producer has been concentrating on recording other artists instead of finishing the job on 'Shining VII'. This is despite the fact that Indie Recordings has put up a lot of money to get the album finished and has supported our efforts in every way possible. It is not SHINING's fault and it is not Indie Recordings' fault that the album still has not appeared, and I am sure you will understand when we say that nobody wants this album released more than ourselves and Indie. Rest assured that we will be taking steps to ensure that it appears sooner rather than later.
"No doubt some of you will be wondering whether the tour with WATAIN will still go on, since the album will not be out by then, but we have no plans to cancel and it will go ahead as planned."
