Self-proclaimed leaders of the "new wave of American heavy metal", Chimaira was formed in Cleveland in 1998, recording the indie This Present Darkness album in 2000 before earning a contract with Roadrunner Records for their next two releases.
Chimaira was spawned in 1998 by Jason Hager, the guitarist of the now defunct, Ascension. Hager's desire to start an intense new metal band led him to Mark Hunter, previously of Cleveland's Skipline. Mark's vocal strengths and abilities as a songwriter made him an easy choice. After a great deal of trial and error the Chimaira family came to be what it is today: Mark Hunter (vocals), Rob Arnold and Jason Hager (guitarists) (recently left band and replaced by Matt Devries), Andols Herrick (drummer), Jim LaMarca (bass), and Chris Spicuzza (electronics).
This Cleveland six piece's unrelenting attitude and drive to succeed has helped them sell close to 10,000 copies of their independently released EP, This Present Darkness. Chimaira developed their fan base through touring, the Internet and radio- particularly stations 93X(Minneapolis) and WSOU (NY/NJ). Last year Chimaira shared the stage with the likes of Soulfly, Hatebreed, Spineshank, and Snapcase.
In March 2001 the band joined forces with the illustrious producer Mudrock (Godsmack, Powerman 5000) to put together the 14 fiercely emotional tracks that are showcased on PASS OUT OF EXISTENCE - the band's Roadrunner debut album.

American heavy metal outfit Chimaira has announced that, in addition to the recent departure of keyboardist Chris Spicuzza, drummer Andols Herrick has also left the band. A message from Herrick reads as follows:
"Since Chris released his statement recently, I suppose its time that I do so as well since I have been dodging questions and comments for almost as long. I am no longer a member of Chimaira, and actually haven’t been since before Christmas. I did play at Chimaira Christmas 11, which was my last show. I certainly couldn’t have asked for a better and more memorable way to go out.
"I cannot stress enough how significantly different the circumstances are now than back in 2004. The short story is that the guys had taken issue with certain aspects of my role in the band. Nothing discussed was out of anger or anything personal, but I was definitely not expecting it and it was quite the spirit crusher for me. The decision was made that it would be in the band’s best interest to move forward without me. More...

Chimaira has posted the following statement online in response to keyboardist Chris Spicuzza leaving the band:
"As we know this news sucks… hopefully this cheers you up a little.
"There are definitely samples, keys, electronics, and all sorts of other wizardry on this record. we’ve spent the past 12 years creating the atmospheric side of chimaira, and we can’t imagine listening to us without those cool bits either. each album brought new noises and a vibe to accompany that particular record. nothing has changed in that regard. this has always been an evolution. while it may seem like the end of days, we see this as another chapter. chimaira developed our sound together with chris, and although he is gone, his spirit, class, and the foundation he helped lay, will always remain.
"You know us. we don’t drive our cars looking through the rearview mirror. never have, never will. keep the glasses half full, amigos. it makes for a much more interesting ride….and we’re just getting started. yes, rob is still in Chimaira. Six Feet Under is a side project. Maynard James Keenan sings for 3 bands. Rob plays guitar for 3. It’s all gravy. Thanks for your continuous support."
Just For Fun
American metal act Chimaira has posted a cover of the classic rock song "Wild Thing" from The Troggs. According to the band, the song is a tribute to the recent escapades of Hollywood TV actor Charlie Sheen, known for his work on the hit TV show Two and a Half Men. The band commented on the cover by saying:
"All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Having fun with the current Charlie Sheen phenomenon. Don't take this too seriously. Enjoy!...we're going back to work on the new record...winning!"
Chimaira guitarist Rob Arnold has posted the following statement online, following the announcement of his new duties with Six Feet Under.
"Its been an amazing honor and opportunity to have been called upon by one of my biggest idols, Chris Barnes!! Six Feet Under and the Barnes era Cannibal stuff had enormous effects on me as a young musician, and still do to this day. In 1996, I was a kid in the front row screaming my head off to Lycanthropy and Torn to the Bone… And now here I am, being asked to play the songs on stage with the band! Dreams do come true!!! And the stuff we’ve been writing absolutely RIPS! Watch out!!"
Six Feet Under vocalist Chris Barnes has posted the following update online, announcing the addition of Chimaira's Rob Arnold to the group as its new rhythm guitarist.
"Just wanted to give you a Six Feet Under band update and let you all know that we would like to announce our good friend Rob Arnold will be joining Six Feet Under as second rhythm guitarist for upcoming touring duties, as well as collaborating on the new CD. I couldn't be happier about the new songs and lineup! Rob and myself have been collaborating on new songs along with the band's new drummer, Kevin Talley, for the past few months. We are all feeling really excited about the band's future, and the raw intensity of the songs that we have created together so far. This is the heaviest most exciting material that I've worked on since 'The Bleeding' [1994 Cannibal Corpse record], and I'm stoked that Rob will be helping out creating this CD with us! We've all known each other for a while and we're really looking forward to continue writing the new CD and future tours. We are committed to taking Six Feet Under to the next level of brutality!"
Cleveland, Ohio heavy metal outfit Chimaira has announced that they have signed a new record deal with eOne Music, who will be releasing their future albums in North America, South America and Japan. A message from the band's singer Mark Hunter reads as follows:
"We would like to thank Scott Givens and eOne. We are excited to start the new decade with a team that believes in our music, has our back and thinks outside the box. eOne are one of the very few labels out there who still give a damn about the genre and Chimaira are proud to be a part of that. Expect great things in 2011."

DAATH recently completed a North America run with Chimaira and Impending Doom. The band will be heading on another European tour soon with Fear Factory. A fan filmed video capturing the impressive Kevin Talley drum solo and the band's performance of the new track, “Double Tap Suicide,” can be seen here.
Levi comments, “DAATH is in Europe for the second time this year. We’ve been so busy making records that we haven’t been able to tour much; but what we’ve done so far counts like a motherfucker: Slayer and Festival dates this summer, Fear Factory/High on Fire tour this winter. The best part for us is that we didn’t just fly over here to start a tour cold. We kicked ass across the Northeast with Chimaira, Impending Doom and This or The Apocalypse this past November. It was some of the best fun we’ve had on any tour ever. On top of the fact that Chimaira is an extremely cool band to tour with, this was a very big one for us on multiple levels. As a band we are the most gelled live that we have ever been. We’re tighter than ever and goddamn; Kevin’s drum solo is badass. Whoever saw us on that leg got the chance to see the production we’ve added to the show as well. We’re always adding to it. As if blinding you guys wasn’t enough, let me just say that we’re going beyond just the lights."
“I’m writing to you guys from my Hotel Room in Luxemburg, exhausted. We finished the Chimaira run, drove to the airport, hopped on a plane to Europe and immediately met up with Fear Factory & High on Fire. It was a hell of a lot of traveling and of course with all that comes a lot of bullshit these days. Though as soon as we hopped up on stage and started playing it was all forgotten and the bullshit just melted away. The show was killer, the bands are killer, we’re just stoked to be bringing it to Europe yet again! Look for more updates on some upcoming tour videos we’ll be doing. I hope you are all doing well and I will check back in with you soon.” More...

Former Chimaira bassist Jim LaMarca has issued the following statement regarding his decision to leave the band:
"I would like to thank the Chimaira fans world wide for their endless support. Those who have met me in person and or online know that I have tried to make contact with as many of you as I possibly could. I can’t express enough how much it was a pleasure for me to meet all of you.
"I started playing in bands over 22 years ago starting with Sacrifix, then Skipline, to Not So Blah (N.S.B.), Switched and getting an opportunity of a lifetime to join Chimaira. I had an incredible time being a part of Chimaira. This experience has provided me to live a lifestyle that I always dreamed of having.
"The band Chimaira has meant a great deal to me. I made a promise to my dear friend Matt Nemec after he passed away, that I would never give up on pursuing my dreams, and because of Chimaira I was able to do that. For that I will always be in debt to this band.
"I would like to thank a few important people that have been so supportive of my musical ventures. My parents gave me the tools to be successful, Mom and Dad without you guys I would have never been able to do any of this. My brother Michael P. LaMarca, thank you for selling Sacrifix Merch and throwing up on the display. My brother Anthony, thanks for the most beautiful nieces. Ed Gandolf for having the patience to see that I at least had rhythm and that I had the balls to play that first show in your parents basement on New Years Eve. Matt Vasiliou and Matt Nemec (R.I.P.), thank you for sharing the good old days with me.
"I am excited to now be able to focus my efforts on my company, Straight Razor Entertainment, which will be focus on developing bands and artists. Look for further details either facebook.com/jimlamarca or on Twiiter @jimlamarcatwitt.
"The future is uncertain for me with the touring lifestyle, 22 years of playing music and I am still not done playing. You will be able to see me perform with Tenafly Viper, which will be playing shows regionally.
"Last, thank you Alayna (my wife) for supporting me with all my decisions and now having to put up with me being home now.
Peace and love."
