Trouble Posts New Album Update

Trouble are currently working on a new studio album tentatively set to be released later this year. The band has checked in with the following update: "Songs are coming together for the new Trouble CD tentatively titled The Dark Riff. As you can tell by the title, IT'S HEAVY!

"The band is resorting to the root of what made Trouble in the first place and what they are best at, DOOM! This will no doubt be the heaviest Trouble release since the mid-'80s when they crushed the masses with what is now known as Psalm 9 and The Skull.

"Trouble: 'We can write whatever we want with no pressure from anybody or anything. Therefor, we choose to write heavy.'

"The time is coming, brace yourself!"

Trouble Parts Ways with Drummer Jeff Oly Olson

Trouble’s drummer, Jeff Oly Olson, has issued the following statement on his MySpace page regarding his departure from Trouble:

"Under great consideration, I have decided to part ways with Trouble. My reasons are justified. I felt like I was never taken seriously as a musician with the guys from Trouble, but I did the best I could in that 28 year effort with the band. That is all I would like to say for now. However, this is not a retirement from the music industry for I have my band, Retro Grave, with the full length coming out in a few months with fine players (the EP was a solo effort). I thank the Trouble fans for all their support and dedication and I'm sorry if I let you down. Moreover, I will say that Bruce and Rick are the drive and sound for Trouble and every one else are replaceable, so I'm sure they will carry on well. It's been an honor to have played with Bruce, Rick and Eric. I would also like to mention to Kerrang Magazine that I'm not leaving to become a preacher as you once noted many years ago and never corrected".

Trouble Reveals Kory Clarke As New Frontman

Chicago doomsters TROUBLE have issued the following:

"Amidst many rumors it has been announced earlier today that Kory Clarke of WARRIOR SOUL will be the new frontman, effective immediately.

The news comes as the band returns to their Chicago homes following a successful European Tour.

Trouble founder/guitarist Rick Wartell explains: "It was a mutual agreement, you need to follow your heart in this business and if you are not into it 100% then it is time to move on. We all felt it was the best thing for all parties involved. There are no hard feelings. I'm sure Eric (Wagner) will continue making music and we wish him the best."

He went on to say, "We are very excited to have Kory step in and take over the vocals for Trouble. He's been one of my favorite frontmen in this industry for many years. He will add a new dimension that we can use. It's not like we just picked out some guy to fill in, this is one of rock's most dynamic and creative frontmen in the industry. I know that when Trouble fans get a taste of what Kory does, they will not be disapointed at all. Anyone who has seen Kory with Warrior Soul already knows what to expect, and it's awesome."

More Details On Retro Grave's Trouble Re-make

Jeff "Oly" Olson (TROUBLE, RETRO GRAVE) has tapped Vincent Wojno (TROUBLE, MACHINE HEAD, KREATOR, TESTAMENT) to produce and engineer the first two RETRO GRAVE albums. The debut CD, now simply titled "Run", is a re-arrangement of TROUBLE's "Run to the Light" (originally issued in 1987 via Metal Blade). Special guests on the "Run" album include former TROUBLE bassist Ron Holzner; members of RISE TO ADDICTION, TROUBLE and NOVEMBERS DOOM; Kyle Thomas (ALABAMA THUDERPUSSY, EXHORDER, FLOODGATE); Leif Edling (CANDLEMASS); Sammy Duet (GOATWHORE, ACID BATH); and up-and-coming guitarist Mike "Rebeard" Schermuly.

"Run" is currently being recorded for an early 2008 release. A record deal is being nogotiated, the details of which will be announced in the very near future.

Kyle Thomas briefly fronted TROUBLE in 1999 and is "a welcome addition to the 'Run' album," says Olson. "All of my guests are very talented musicians that I'm psyched to work with, especially my new friends from the UK, RISE TO ADDICTION [who toured with TROUBLE in Europe earlier this year]. These guys are hard-working and extremely talented group of guys, as [is] my new permanent guitarist, Mike 'Redbeard' Schermuly from Portland, Maine."

Trouble Drummer To Remake "Run To The Light"

TROUBLE/RETRO GRAVE drummer Jeff "Oly" Olson is planning to record a remake of TROUBLE's 1987 LP "Run to the Light" (Metal Blade Records). Olson says, "It will be compilation of some of my favorite top metal recording artists, (guest stars to be announced) with a real heavy sound that I'm excited to record... 'Run to the Light' is the only TROUBLE album that I didn't play drums on and it's my favorite."

"Run to the Light" featured drummer Dennis Lesh, who replaced Olson after he left TROUBLE to pursue a Bachelor of Music degree in Film Scoring at Berklee College of Music in Boston.

In other news, Olson will take part in an online chat at his web site, www.RetroGraveMusic.com, every Tuesday evening at 10:00 p.m. EST to discuss his "weekly instructional drumming tips" and future plans for RETRO GRAVE and TROUBLE.

Trouble Guitarist Explains CD Delay

StonerRock.com recently conducted an interview with TROUBLE guitarist Bruce Franklin. An excerpt from the interview follows:

StonerRock.com: First up, why reunite and give it another go?

Bruce: "I think everyone had time to get away from TROUBLE and work on their own music — LID, SUPERSHINE, WET ANIMAL. Someone asked us to play a one-time show. We did and it felt good! So after a few years apart everyone kind of felt a passion to try and do TROUBLE again. Being a few years older and wiser didn't hurt either."

StonerRock.com: You just got done touring the U.S. and Europe. Overall, which treated you better?

Bruce: "Both were really good. It was a pleasant surprise to see so many longtime TROUBLE-heads turn out. Europe may have a slight edge, because the smallest shows were still bigger than the smallest American shows. The cool thing is that people seem to really respect the band at this point in time. Probably more because we're old than anything else."

StonerRock.com: [The new TROUBLE album] "Simple Mind Condition" has had its [North American] release date pushed back repeatedly. What's with the delays?

Bruce: "Contrary to some of the crazy rumors, it really comes down to record company red tape and financial crap. On the band's part, the record has been done for over a year."

StonerRock.com: Do you think the constant reshuffling will have a negative effect, in the sense that eventually people will ultimately just stop caring about a new TROUBLE album and just download it?

Bruce: "It seems so. As usual, TROUBLE has all the luck. Bad luck! On the positive side the new record is out in Europe and is supposed to be out in August in the States. Even better is that it's a good record. Of course every band will say their new record is good. I'm not a bullshitter though, and 'Simple Mind Condition' isn't the best record we have made, but it is a good record that should be heard by anyone that likes what TROUBLE does."
