Blackguard Recaps Ensiferum Tour

Paul Ablaze of Montreal's Blackguard has checked in with the following recap of the From Afar tour, headlined by Ensiferum this past fall:

"Another tour in the Bag , Another notch on the belt , and Another round of good times were had by all.

"For a tour that seemed destined to fall apart on itself just before it's start, I believe it exceeded all expectation by a long shot. With Ex Deo pulling out for the majority of the tour and Hypocrisy having to bail all together, the future looked very bleak. But at the end of the day it was Ensiferums call to bite the bullet and pull ahead with the tour, and for that we cannot thank them enough.

"As disappointed as we were not being able to tour with those two amazing bands, their absences proved to be a blessing in disguise. Being bumped up to direct support might have been one of the best things to happen to us, and with the addition of Lazarus A.D we got to become friends with some of the most badass people we've ever met.

"Although the crowds might have been smaller overall, we got to play to more people every night and our new position on the tour certainly motivated us to step up our game.

"This tour being quite the contrast to our last tour (Summer slaughter) in pace and scale, it was a little more relaxed and offered us some more down time to breath. That being said here are some of my more memorable moments from 'from afar' More...

Winds of Plague Announces 2010 US Tour Dates

California metal band WINDS OF PLAGUE continue their extensive worldwide touring schedule in support of the highly acclaimed "The Great Stone War" in 2010 with another headliner dubbed the "Never Say Die! Tour." This massive, month-long trek, which kicks off on Jan. 23rd, also features labelmates Despised Icon alongside For Today, Stray From The Path and The World We Knew.

Johnny (vocals) further states: “We have just passed the halfway mark on ‘The California Love’ tour and already the tour has proven to be a massive success, as well as a very memorable moment in WINDS OF PLAGUE history. This has been our first sole headliner, which is nerve racking in itself, but the WOP Soldiers have been strong in numbers and have been some of the most insane shows we have played to date. It’s been awesome to get back into some smaller clubs that we have played while we were coming up and re-visit our roots. This tour also marks the debut of keyboardist Alana Potocnik to the band. Alana's positive attitude and hungry work ethic is a breath of fresh air, with her talent and creative writing abilities new material will be nothing short of epic. With our return to Southern California for the December Decimation Fest still on the horizon, ‘The California Love’ tour will go down in our history as some of the best times of our lives and we thank our fans for making it all possible. Blackguard Checks In with Tour Recap, Album Update

Blackguard vocalist Paul Ablaze has checked in with the following Summer Slaughter Tour recap and new album update:

"Hey everyone! Paul Ablaze here. I'm very sorry for the lack of updates, these things slip my mind sometimes . But here it is finally (better late than never i suppose) a little something to let you all know what's gone down and what's in the works!

"Summer Slaughter Re-cap (i started writing this a while ago)

"This years summer slaughter has come and gone. Beers were drunk, blood was shed, vomit covered jeans, didn't see anyone cry but who knows? Point is no one came out the other end of this beast unchanged in some way, and we are without a doubt stronger than we've ever been as a band because of it.
This being only our second full north american tour we had everything to prove to both the fans and our peers, and i believe we won the respect of both along the way. I had said early on in the tour how amazed i was on how social everyone was and how much we as a tour came together and pulled for one another. I truly believe that the only reason this tour finished when it was suppose to and not 4 weeks earlier was because of the strength in character everyone displayed and how devoid everyone was of any kind of "ego" or "rock star" mentality.

"There are certain memories that surly stick out amongst the never ending (sometimes fuzzy) memories of good times that happened over the past month and a half. a few note worthy ones include: More...

The Decimation of the Nation Destroys Lafayette

In the heart of Cajun Country in Louisiana is a small town called Lafayette. The town is not only famous for being the place of my birth and raising, but occasionally, it has some kick-ass concerts (I guess in honor of me.) But anyway, the latest in the series of great shows was a visit from the Decimation of the Nation Tour featuring an amazing lineup of Toxic Holocaust, Dying Fetus, Winds of Plague, Chimaira and Hatebreed. Anyone lucky enough to be in the vicinity of this tour could not help but go to the local bar and witness their town being decimated with some of the best metal musicians of our day. More...

It was an amazing opportunity for us and we were simply blown away by the unanimously positive crowd reactions each night to our new material. Summer Slaughter Murders New Orleans

The Summer Slaughter Fest is correctly named. When the tour arrives in your town, prepare for a bloodbath of immense proportions. Decibel, Affliction and Fangoria bring you a huge tour consisting of Blackguard, Decrepit Birth, After the Burial, Beneath the Massacre, Origin, Born of Osiris, Dying Fetus, Winds of Plague, Darkest Hour, Ensiferum, Suffocation, and Necrophagist with Behemoth joining the show on some dates. Impressed? Did I also mention that the ticket prices are extremely affordable to fit into your budget during this economic downturn? That’s a deal you can’t beat. So if you’re lucky enough to have a Slaughter in your town this summer, I suggest you don’t miss it.

In the sweltering, higher-than-average heat of New Orleans, the Summer Slaughter Tour stops to do a little killing. It wasn’t an official stop, but I would like to thank all of the bands for taking their day off to rock our town. The madness began at three o’clock. All of the bands kicked ass for about half an hour each. Blackgaurd, After the Burial, Origin, Beneath the Massacre and Darkest Hour were all incredible. Their merchandise was also very interesting, but with so many bands, I couldn’t afford it all. Music was blaring from the small tunnel-shaped hall that could be heard blocks away. Band members, roadies and helpful fans were constantly moving equipment in and out to accommodate the large number of bands. Yes, it was a bit hectic. But it all added to the excitement and fun nature of the show. More...

Winds of Plague Preparing For Summer Slaughter

In February of last year, WINDS OF PLAGUE exploded onto the metal scene as the frontrunner of the new generation of heavy music. With their innovative and high energy style, the band captivated audiences across the US and sold upwards of 50,000 units of their Century Media debut album, "Decimate the Weak." WINDS OF PLAGUE is now heading back in the studio with the goal being to redefine extreme all over again.

WINDS OF PLAGUE has now entered Sound Temple Studios in Ranch Cucamonga, CA with producer extraordinaire Daniel Castleman, who worked with the band on Decimate the Weak, to record The Great Stone War. WINDS OF PLAGUE is also extremely excited to be on board as part of the summer’s most extreme package tour, SUMMER SLAUGHTER, alongside Suffocation, Necrophagist, Darkest Hour and others. Dates for the trek are posted below and available at the band’s MySpace page (below). More blockbuster touring is in the works that will see the band through the rest of 2009!

Vocalist Johnny Plague comments: “This week we lock ourselves inside Sound Temple Studios in Rancho Cucamonga, CA with the up and coming recording wizard Daniel Castleman. We will leave a month later drained and beat but with a new 12 track full length named The Great Stone War. This is the first time we have had to create an album from scratch so we took advantage of the situation and built a themed, well constructed album compared to Decimate The Weak which I feel was more of a collection of songs.”
