Ephel Duath Issues Album Update
The 6th full-length album from avant-garde metal band Ephel Duath will be released in spring 2013 via Agonia Records. The album title as well as album artwork have been set and will be revealed later this year.
The follow up to the "On Death and Cosmos" EP (reviewed here) will introduce a line-up change in the rhythmic section. All bass parts have already been recorded by Bryan Beller (Mike Keneally, Steve Vai, Dethklok, The Aristocrats, James La Brie, Dweezil Zappa) in replacement of Steve Di Giorgio. Marco Minnemann returns playing drums for Ephel Duath, which according to a press release "brings the creative relationship between drums and guitars to a dynamism never reached before by the band."
"Ephel Duath's new album is the musical statement I wish this band will be remembered for," comments Davide Tiso (founder/guitarist). "All I've learned or not learned musically, all I've always wanted my lyrics to be, live and breathe in these eight new songs. This album holds together all that Ephel Duath's music has touched in the last fifteen years and pushes its boundaries even further. I feel that a whole new expressive world is opening up to me and this band. My intent is to blindly follow this recent path and to bring Ephel Duath to higher and higher levels of intensity, riff after riff, song after song, with patience and obstinacy, an open heart and dedication."
In January Ephel Duath will enter Mana Recording Studios is St. Petersburg, Florida with producer Erik Rutan to record guitars and vocals and to mix the album. At the moment the band is busy putting the last touches on what will be the final guitars and vocals tracks. The band's current recording line-up is:
Karyn Crisis - vocals
Marco Minnemann - drums
Bryan Beller - bass
Davide Tiso - guitars
Ephel Duath Comments On New Album Recording
Avant-garde metal act Ephel Duath recently released the "On Death and Cosmos" EP (reviewed here), and the band is now working on a full-length follow up album. Ephel Duath commented on the recording process:
"Drums for the new Ephel Duath album have been recorded. When Marco completed the last track he wrote me something I was very, very grateful for. He said: 'thank you for the harmony.'
"I believe that this simple and beautifully zen thank-you note well represent the dynamic between our instruments in the album. In this new ED chapter, the chemistry, the interplay between guitars and drums reached a new, beautiful form.
"Both guitars and drums seem to be composed by the same mind, they seem to complete and reinforce each other. I couldn't be more proud for what we created together this time around."
Further details on the new album will be announced as they are made available. Ephel Duath is Karyn Crisis, Davide Tiso, Steve Di Giorgio, and Marco Minnemann.
Erik Rutan Discusses New Ephel Duath EP
On August 14th, "On Death and Cosmos" (reviewed here) - the new EP from progressive/avant-garde metal band Ephel Duath - will be released for the North American territory. Mastermind and guitarist Davide Tiso commented: "It was impressive to see the amount of European press we got with just three songs. Now that we are seeing the same thing happening in the US, it feels like we have the chance to celebrate this fortunate EP twice!"

Guest Musicians Comment On Working With Aborym
Italy's Aborym had previously announced Davide Tiso (Ephel Duath) and Karyn Crisis (Karyn Crisis Band) are performing guest spots on the band's new album "Psychogrotesque," which is set to drop on November 8th, 2010. Davide Tiso commented on working with Aborym:
"I have nothing but respect for Aborym. I followed and supported the band since their '99 Kali Yuga Bizarre and I consider Aborym the boldest extreme metal act ever born in Italy. I find remarkable their ability in reinventing themselves album after album. Aborym is a lonely beast in the underground metal forest, and Fabban is a truly visionary leader: I'm proud of what he's reaching with his music. I'm sure Aborym will continue to surprise in the future, this is what they usually do. It has been a pleasure to do a guest appearance in their new album and I'm particularly touched by what Karyn did on those songs. I still have shivers thinking about that one vocal take she did on the album's closing song! I wish Aborym to receive the massive attention they deserve."
Karyn Crisis also added: "It's not often that I feel connected enough to someone else's music to want to sing on it. Music is a strange, foreign language to me, yet Aborym's new album was a language I identified with. It speaks a psychological dialect I understand, yet it's at the same time new and surprising. The concept and rhythmic ideas are great, and it's been a very real pleasure to be a part of it."
Davide Tiso Forms New Project
Davide Tiso of Ephel Duath has announced a new project titled Manuscripts Don't Burn, which will see its first release in October via Aural Music. Tiso issued the following statement about the new project:
"I thought about a one man band since my Black Metal days back in the ’90s. The idea of taking care of every aspect of the creative process has always been something I’ve been into (see Ephel Duath), but with Manuscripts Don't Burn I take this to a new limit: not involving anyone in the performing and recording process too. A year ago I started to compose for the Karyn Crisis solo album. I wrote a lot of songs, probably too many and with too much going on: there was no space for vocals.
"The songs were ready and done, without her voice. I restarted to compose for her from scratch, in the meantime I remained with enough material to start the solo adventure of above. I’m totally absorbed by this new direction, there’s something magic about these songs, an extremely positive vibe surrounds them. They have been composed without any kind of effort, like they were already existing and ready to be caught on tape. There’s something that needs to be spread through these songs: genuine compassionate feelings towards whomever wants to deal with this music. This is what I’m proudly doing now, hoping that this new palette will become an important part of my career and last the test of fire (you people) like those manuscripts Bulgakov was talking about."
Kreator Drummer To Sit Out Tour Dates
In a brief message to their fans, German thrash metal legends Kreator announced that long time drummer Ventor will be sitting out the bands forthcoming tour dates. The message reads as follows:
"A quick update for you from the Kreator camp. Ventor will be sitting out of some of the upcoming tour dates that we have, due to some personal issues. Not to worry, Ventor is fine and will be playing live again soon. For the time being, we have recruited Marco Minnemann, a world class drummer that has graciously stepped in to help us out. Marco is best known for his stints in Necrophagist, Illogicist, and Ephel Duath."

Davide Tiso on Karyn Crisis and Ephel Duath
Davide of Italian metal band Ephel Duath has been working on the Karyn Crisis debut solo album and has given some hints concerning future work with Esposito Fornasari (Somma, Transgender, Ashes, Pascolare Menti, Allevare Pensieri) and more Ephel Duath albums. In reference to the Karyn Crisis album, he states that he's "super happy for what is coming out. The songs are so rich of many different moods, colors, killer mid tempos and heavy attacks," and that "There's groove. So much groove." "I had the chance to work in studio also with Lorenzo Esposito Fornasari, [an] amazing singer and talented programmer. It has been simply great. I hope there will be the chance to collaborate in [the] future." "Another important news, I'm assembling a home recording studio. This is so exciting I'm barely able to put it in words! I'm sure I'll be working day and night non-stop for at least the first year. I love so much to be in studio, I can't believe to finally have one in front of my bed. I'm already collecting ideas for another Ephel Duath album; there [are] new collaborations and projects in the air too."
Davide has provided some studio pictures with Esposito at this blog post.
