Sunburst Out Of ProgPower USA XVIII

ProgPower USA promoter Glenn Harveston announced that Greek power/progressive act Sunburst was dropped from the XVIII roster, due to a VISA issues, in which a particular USCIS agent made an unusual and specific "all-encompassing" request for evidence that was impossible to satisfy in the time left. Harveston also announced that Brazil's Daydream XI will replace Sunburst.

Harveston posted the following announcement: "It is with extreme frustration and disappointment I must announce that Sunburst (Greece) will not be performing at ProgPower USA XVIII. Despite having provided the same type and kind of evidence that has obtained approvals for not only ProgPower USA bands over the last decade, but for well over one hundred other bands submitted by Marc/Play America, one agent at the USCIS (United States Customs & Immigration Services) has deemed our evidence insufficient. Given the all-encompassing breadth of that specific agent's demands (more than ever have been seen by either Marc or myself) in an RFE (Request for Evidence) in our careers, there is literally no hope of satisfying those demands. Sunburst, Marc, & I have all agreed it would be pointless to continue to fight this hopeless battle.

"Rest assured I have every intention of having Sunburst back as soon as possible. They are an amazing band and deserve to be on the ProgPower USA stage. The band is understandably disappointed, but also understand the circumstances cannot be helped.

"I want to calm the fears of those concerned about other bands performing this year. I have already obtained visa approvals for all bands I am specifically responsible for performing on Friday and Saturday. Sunburst was the last band we were waiting on for visa approval. All bands that have been submitted for Wednesday and Thursday so far have also been approved. More...

Power Quest Signs With Inner Wound Recordings

Inner Wound Recordings is proud to announce the signing of U.K. act Power Quest, one of the premiere melodic power metal bands in the world, to the label. The band will hit the studio in April and the new album is scheduled to be released in October.

Steve Williams of Power Quest comments: "I'm really pleased to have sealed the deal with Emil and Inner Wound for the release of the next PQ opus. We were in discussions for a couple of months, during which time the salient points of the deal were already agreed before I recently flew to Gothenburg to sign the agreement in person. In this age of faceless business it was refreshing to do things the old fashioned way. I'm really excited about this collaboration and we have a lot of cool things planned for the next 12 months."

Emil Westerdahl of Inner Wound Recordings comments: "It's a true pleasure to announce the signing of Power Quest to the label. During the past few months that Steve and I have been in contact it's become clear that we share the same vision for the band and that Power Quest and Inner Wound is a perfect fit. I am really excited about the cooperation and also confident that together we'll be able to take Power Quest to the next level."

"Opening Friday’s main stage, and fresh off the back of the release of ‘IV’, their first album in ten years, are British post metallers, Earthzone 9. The band are stoked to find their way to Catton Park’s hallowed ground, commenting 'Earthtone 9 have never played Bloodstock, so we could not be more excited! Raven Lord Recruits New Drummer

International metallers Raven Lord have announced the addition of current Power Quest drummer Rich Smith to the group’s ranks. Rich will finish the last shows for Power Quest's farewell tour by the end of May.

Commented Smith: "I’m delighted to of been offered the throne to drum for Raven Lord. I can’t wait to get in the rehearsal room with these guys and hit the road to play some kick ass shows I’d like to thank all the guys in the band and the management for this opportunity…"

Ex-drummer Larry Paterson states: "It is meant as no disrespect to any of you at all – and I wish great success for everybody. To cut a long story short, things are pretty tough right now as I have another band, a book and a documentary to make. All of this is running on a very tight schedule which WILL definitely get in the way of Raven Lord…”

Singer and bandleader Csaba Zvekan commented, “I’m saddened to see Larry go from Raven Lord but if dates are clashing there is not much any of us can do. The good thing is me and Larry Paterson will continue working on another band project called Exorcism which is expected to be released in 2014. Well, you know what they say; the show must go on! And with Summer shows in the pipeline we had to act fast and find another drummer as a permanent solution. Rich Smith is highly motivated to be the next Lord drummer and with Power Quest calling it the quits it was obvious that he was available for grabs. We took the opportunity and welcome Rich Smith to Raven Lord.” More...

Power Quest Calls It Quits

UK melodic metal outfit Power Quest will be calling it quits after twelve years, leaving behind five full length albums and an EP, the latest of which was the 2011 release "Blood Alliance." The band is planning some farewell performances in 2013.

Keyboardist and founding member Steve Williams announced the news:

"I've decided that now is the time to say that the Quest is over. From a business perspective it is getting harder and harder for us to break even. None of us make any money from PQ (we all work day jobs) but I have been losing significant amounts of money when on the road for the past few years. No matter how much you love something, there comes a point where you have to look at the facts, not the dream.

"I love nothing more than touring and making records but if there isn't sufficient demand for the product then there comes a time when reality has to bite unfortunately.

"I'd like to thank everyone who has supported me and PQ over the past 12 years....it is very much appreciated and it is what has kept me going through the years. It's been a great ride and I've had the pleasure of having some great musicians in this band who I am proud to call my friends. Steve, Alessio, Andrea, Francesco, Rich, Paul, Andy, Gav, Colin, Chitty, Adam, Andre, Bill, Oliver, Gav Ward, ZP,Sam Totman, Pete and Ben......you guys have played such a huge role in making PQ what it has become and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

"My dream as a youngster was to make one album. It was not about being a rock star or making lots of money, although that would have been nice :-) It always has and always will be about the music first and foremost, so to have released 5 albums is way beyond anything I could have dreamt of to be honest.

"Huge thanks to those who have done so much behind the scenes over the years as well, without whom it would have been immensely difficult for me. Step forward Manuela Froehlich, Anna Walker, Simon Burrell and Sprocket. More...

Power Quest Reveals New Frontman

After splitting with vocalist Chity Somapala, Power Quest has now issued the following update about recruiting a new front man:

"Powerquest is pleased to finally reveal the identity of their new frontman, so please welcome Colin Callanan to the Power Quest family! Colin, 31, is from Galway, Ireland and will make his live debut with the band in Wakefield on November 27th. The show will be streamed live on the web! Previously Colin has been heard fronting his own projects Dark Crystal and Karuna. You can check out Karuna here."

Steve Williams also commented, "We are thrilled to welcome Colin into the band. He impressed each and every one of us at his audition a couple of months back, and he really understands what Power Quest is all about. His voice and personality are exactly what we have been looking for. Welcome aboard brother!"

Colin added, "I'm really happy to be joining PQ! I've been following the band since their very first demo release and have already been singing PQ songs for many years to help me keep my vocal skills up to scratch. I've always thought it would be great to get the opportunity to sing with an internationally acclaimed outfit such as Power Quest, and was really glad when I got the invite from Steve to come over and jam with the band to see how the chemistry is. Well it was really cool hanging out with the PQ family over those days, and I tried to give them a good blast of my voice in the rehearsal room so they could see if my technique and style was what the band is after. We both agree it's a good match, and I'm really enthusiastic about being the new voice of PQ and offering as much as I can to the band on the old songs, as well as working with the guys to write new material together. I look forward to many gigs and tours, and plenty of craic as we say in Ireland!"

Power Quest Vocalist Quits Band

U.K. power metal act Power Quest has announced that vocalist Chity Somapala has left the band. The full press release reads as follows:

"We are sorry to have to announce that Chity Somapala has left Power Quest, making the appearance at BOA his last with the band. Chity decided that, at this stage of his career, he wanted to move away from metal to focus on his solo work which is more rock and blues based.

"Clearly the last thing I wanted after releasing the Blood Alliance album earlier this year was to have another line up change, having been through so many in recent times. Having said that, we all have to do what is right for us at specific points in time and we part ways with Chity on very good terms and wish him all the very best for the future.

"Myself, Andy, Paul, Rich and Gav have been auditioning potential replacements for the past couple of months and we have now decided on who will be the man to take up the frontman role in the band. We would like to thank everyone who has submitted recordings and traveled to auditions as well.

"We are already hard at work rehearsing for the UK dates in November and we can promise quite a different set list to what we have been performing so far this year. We will be revealing the identity of our new frontman very soon.....this guy blew us away at the auditions!'

"The first shows with the new vocalist will be in Bedford on November 25th and Wakefield on November 27th, and the Wakefield show will be streamed live on the web!" More...
