Nachtmystium has revealed that their guitarist Jeff Wilson was almost killed last friday when a drive-by shooting took place in his neighbourhood. You can read the blog below:
"Last Friday (April 17th, 2009) at about 5:30 - 6:00 PM, Jeff Wilson left his apartment building here in Chicago (that Blake also has an apartment in) to head two blocks away to our neighborhood grocery store. On his way out, walking back down the small side street right near our building….an SUV comes flying around the corner of a small side street just south of where he was walking, two men hung out of the window and opened fire in Jeff’s general direction (and many other people, including children…) towards someone located behind where Jeff was walking.
"Fortunately, Jeff’s amazing ninja-style, bullet-dodging skills kicked in, instinctively, and he some how managed to escape what became a crossfire of bullets and made it home safely with his smokes and a 2 liter of Diet Coke. Although the Diet Coke was tempting to Jeff, as he was out of breath and parched with thirst after running his ass off from the onslaught of violence, Jeff opted for a can (or twelve) of High Life that he found in the fridge….and then enjoyed one of his cigarettes, which he fought for his life to have.
"This, dear fans, is just one more example - smoking kills!!" More...

On next November 17th (January 27th in the US), Season of Mist will reissue two classic albums by cult doom band PENTAGRAM: 1999's "Review Your Choices" and 2001's "Sub Basement." Many have named the band the true heir of the British originators of heavy and doom metal, honourably dubbing them 'the American Black Sabbath'.
PENTAGRAM's fourth studio album "Review Your Choices" marked the band's sixth comeback after several changes of line-up and label. These acclaimed protagonists of doom metal proved once more indestructible by drug addiction, break ups, bad deals, jail terms, chronic illness, satanic blood sacrifices and various acts of self destruction. Mainman and singer Bobby Liebling has kept his band alive for nearly 40 years now and might easily be awarded the title of "longest serving cult band" - highly acclaimed by fans, press and fellow musicians alike. "Review Your Choices" marked the return of multi-instrumentalist Joe Hasselvander to join Bobby Liebling in his eternal quest of creating the heaviest sound possible. The album features a mix of re-recorded lost Liebling tracks from the 70's and stellar numbers penned by Hasselvander, which gave "Review Your Choices" an extra heavy feeling.
"Sub-Basement" was the second output of this line-up and is regarded as the most rock n' roll effort of the doomsters ever. On top of PENTAGRAM's perfect doom sound an irresistible groove and capturing catchiness was added, which made the album an all time favourite for many fans.
Both albums will be reissued with bonus tracks, new artwork and liner notes.
Anglo-Chilean thrash masters CRIMINAL has announced their signing of a new recording deal with Germany's Massacre Records. The band will enter the studio in September to record its sixth studio album for an early 2009 release. The follow-up to 2005's “Sicario” will be released in a limited edition package including a bonus DVD.
Vocalist/guitarist Anton Reisenegger states: “It's great to be on a label like Massacre, that has carved its niche in today's overcrowded market through hard work and dedication. We are looking forward to a long and productive collaboration."
“I have nothing but good things to say about the staff at Metal Blade Europe,” the frontman comments on the band's former label, “but the company's priorities were clearly somewhere else, so it made no sense for us to continue working together. I honestly wish them all the
best for the future.”
Formed in the early 90s in Santiago de Chile by ex-Pentagram mastermind Reisenegger and guitar virtuoso Rodrigo Contreras, CRIMINAL were combining elements of thrash, hardcore and death metal long before the term “metalcore” was even thought of. The band enjoyed a meteoric rise to the forefront of the South American metal scene, including five-digit album sales, shows with the likes of Kreator, Sepultura and Slayer and a nomination for Best Rock Video at the MTV Latino Video Music Awards, but was faced with severe personal and business problems around the turn of the decade. Reisenegger and Contreras then decided to relocate to the UK, regrouping in a half-Chilean, half-British line-up. Since then, the band has played on major European festivals such as Wacken and Summer Breeze, as well as
support shows with bands such as Chimaira, Six Feet Under, Brujeria and Lamb of God.
TIAMAT has been confirmed for the Zeytinli Rock Fest 2008, set to take place August 14-17 in Balikesir, Turkey.
The festival billing is shaping up as follows:

Finland's Imperiumi.net reports:
"Highly acclaimed as true originators of the international underground extreme metal scene, PENTAGRAM from Chile produced two legendary demo tapes in the late 80's which functioned as the source of inspiration for many black/death metal cult acts to follow.
Germany's Cyclone Empire will finally release Under The Spell Of The Pentagram, a CD+DVD set featuring all known recordings on CD along with some infamous cool live-performances on DVD, in the middle of May."
Vincent McAllister, the guitarist and a founding member of seminal American Doom Metal band PENTAGRAM, has lost his battle with cancer at the age of 51.
McAllister played guitar in the classic '70s PENTAGRAM lineup that also included vocalist Bobby Liebling, bassist Greg Mayne and drummer Geof O'Keefe. His recorded works can be heard throughout the various PENTAGRAM collections.
McAllister was highly respected as a guitarist and person amongst his peers. McAllister had spent the past few years working on material in his home studio and planning to return to playing again with former PENTAGRAM members O'Keefe and Mayne.
US doom metalers Pentagram have cancelled their UK gigs, due to happen in March. Apparently mainman Bobby Liebling shot up [on heroin] before the Washington, DC show and had to be revived from an overdose just to get him to the stage. The paramedics had taken him to the hospital, and nobody seemed to know how he was doing. Fortunately, he has survived, but the future of the band now hangs in the balance. One of the dates in Britain was supposed to be at The Peel in KIngston on March 26. The date, an all-day event, will now be headlined by Orange Goblin. Also on the bill are Pig Iron, End Of Level Boss, Centurions Ghost, The River and Sada.
