Sourvein Announces Return Of Original Bassist

Cape Fear doom act Sourvein has announced the return of original bassist, Joshua ”JC Fari," who played with the band from 1993 – 2001 and again from 2003 – 2006.

Fari held down the low-end duties on both Sourvein's self-titled full-length and the "He’s No Good To Me Dead" compilation (featuring Sourvein alongside Grief, Bongzilla, Negative Reaction and Subsanity) among other compilations as well as the "Will To Mangle" demos. Fari also played guitar on the band’s split with Buzzov*en in 1995.

Fari relocated to Austin after Hurricane Katrina flooded his New Orleans apartment and studio in 2005 and left the band in 2006, following a tour of the U.K. with Remesses, to focus on his family. Since then, he’s been raising his son and working as a recording engineer. As of this summer, Fari is finally able to commit to touring and recording with Sourvein full time.

Fari will join vocalist T-Roy and co. for the band’s West Coast leg of the Black Fangs world tour in October. The Sourvein collective has extended its gratitude to Ahmasi O’Daniel (The Misanthrone Project) and Dave Sherman (Earthride) for filling in on bass the past few tours. "Black Fangs" was released via Candlelight Records on June 21st.

"Slow Southern Steel" Documentary In The Works

One of the most comprehensive southern metal documentaries ever made is coming in 2010. Appropriately dubbed "Slow Southern Steel," the 80+ minute film is executive produced by Karim Khan (I'm Better Than Everyone Records) and directed by Rwake vocalist CT and David Lipke with the additional and integral assistance of George Hancock, Alix Petrovich and Beer Wolf guitarist Christian Sweeney (who will be releasing a paperback version of the production) among many others.

"Slow Southern Steel" peers into the world of true southern metal/doom through live footage and personal interviews; CT's devout commitment/knowledge/love of the topic at hand bringing the movie to life in a way few first-time directors can. Said CT about the laborious undertaking: "I knew there were things I could get out of these bands that other film makers could not." Added Khan, "There's just something very appealing to me about taking unyielding heavy songs and adding a strong southern element to them."

At press time, the film was still being shot and thus far, featured bands will include (in alphabetical order): A Hanging, ASG, Baron Grod, Beaten Back To Pure, Beer Wolf, Black Skies, Black Tusk, Blackblood Division, Blood Of The Sun, Collapsar, Colossus, Cough, Dark Castle, Deadbird, Dead-I-On, Dixie Witch, Doomsayer, Eyehategod, Flesh Parade, Haarp, Hawg Jaw, HOD, Hope And Suicide, Hostile Apostle, House Of Lightning, In The Lurch, Jucifer, Ketea, Khann, Kylesa, Mala Suerte, Music Hates You, Parasytic, Queen Beast, Royal Thunder, Rwake, Seahag, SeaWitch, Sourvein, Speedealer, Spickle, Suplecs, Subrig Destroyer, The Devil And The Sea, The Dumps, The Roller, The Unbeheld, Vessel Of The Divine, Weedeater, Withered and Zoroaster.

"Slow Southern Steel" will make its debut at the renowned Little Rock Film Festival in May of 2010 (www.littlerockfilmfestival.org) where many of the bands featured will be in attendance. Additional festival previews will follow.

The DVD edition is slated to be released in 2011 via fast-growing, vinyl-only (and now DVD) Chicago imprint, I'm Better Than Everyone Records.

You can check out a two-minute "Slow Southern Steel" trailer below.

Sourvein Signs with Candlelight Records

Candlelight Records has confirmed the signing of North Carolina-based sludge/doom metal band Sourvein. The popular five-piece on tour now through August 11 has recorded a special/limited edition EP titled "Imperial Bastard," which will see a domestic release on September 30. It will be followed by the band's Billy Anderson-produced full-length label debut currently planned for release in early 2009.

Formed in 1993, Sourvein relocated to Cape Fear, North Carolina after Hurricane Katrina ravaged their long-time home base. Blacktide Music says, "ominous riffs, which launch into despair-ridden breakdowns the likes of which would make Eyehategod tremble with fear." Currently featuring vocalist T-Roy Medlin, former Buzzov-en drummer Ramzi, bassist Bonne Doom with guitarists Cool Clyde and Sleepy Doom, the band has released two full length albums - their self-titled (often referred to as "Salvation") debut released in 2000/Game Two Records and "Will to Mangle" released in 2002/Southern Lord. Numerous EPs and split recordings have kept the band in the eyes of their growing fanbase as well their commitment to consistent touring both in the US and overseas.
