The New England Metal and Hardcore Festival will introduce an additional stage this year dedicated to up and coming bands.
The third stage, sponsored by Deathcote Records, will be located at Chasers Nightclub, located behind the Palladium on the corner of Martin Luther King and Commercial streets. The main festival will be taking place at the Palladium.
“There are so many great bands and not enough time to get all of them on during the course of two days,” said festival co-organizer Sott Lee. “Adding a third stage is a great way for us to showcase some of the developing bands and it’s a terrific opportunity for these bands to play alongside some of today’s top metal and hardcore bands.”
The New England Metal and Hardcore Festival will take place on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18, with the Atticus pre-party on Thursday, April 16. This year’s event is presented by Randall Amplifiers, Washburn Guitars and Eden Electronics. Metal Blade Records will present the main stage. Prosthetic Records will present the second stage.
The Atticus-sponsored pre-party will be a unique event that will be combining film and music, kicking off with a screening of official film sponsor Anchor Bay's film "Crowley," co-written by none other than Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson. The provocative supernatural thriller is the tale of a virtual reality experiment gone wrong, sending the soul of the British occultist Aleister Crowley into the body of a shy university professor. But even as Crowley creates all-new orgies of depraved pleasures and black magic, he is now preparing to unleash the ultimate occult event upon the world. Also showing is "Anvil! The Story of Anvil," a sometimes revealing, sometimes hilarious documentary about the legendary Canadian metal band. The movie follows best friends Robb Reiner and Lips as they make a pact to rock together forever. Their band, Anvil, hailed as the "demi-gods of Canadian metal, " influenced a musical generation that includes Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax, despite never hitting the big time. Following a calamitous European tour, Lips and Robb, now in their fifties, set off to record their 13th album in one last attempt to fulfill their boyhood dreams. The film will be followed by a performance by the band itself. The pre-party will also be held at the Palladium. Admission is free with a weekend pass or $15 for non-ticket holders.
Prices this year are $40 for Friday, $45 for Saturday or $79 for a 2-day ticket that also includes free admission to the kick off party on Thursday. Tickets are available at all Strawberries, FYE Stores, online at tickets.com or by calling (800) 477-6849. Tickets are available now.

Prosthetic Records is proud to announce the addition of Pennsylvania-based CENTURY to the label’s roster. Boasting a forward-thinking approach to heavy music, the band has already garnered critical praise from 2006’s "Faith and Failure" and plans to release its latest effort, the concept-based "Black Ocean" April 29 worldwide, and a day prior in Europe.
Currently being mastered by Kim Rosen at West West Side Music in New York, a completed version of the title track from "Black Ocean" and the album’s cover art are available on CENTURY’s MySpace page. Two years in the making, and with the pending release of ‘Black Ocean,’ CENTURY frontman Carson Slovak says, “Black Ocean is being released? On Prosthetic Records? Well that’s great!”
In conjunction with the release of Black Ocean, CENTURY is launching a special album website. The interactive full-flash site will feature exclusive content, including hidden features and a bonus track only accessible by solving a code found in the album’s artwork. The website will be officially launched April 28 along with the album’s release.
Century will begin shooting a video for "Black Ocean" today. The band comments on the proceedings:
"The band performance portion of the video will be shot first, followed by the narrative portion, which will be filmed later in January. As usual, the video will be created completely DIY by the band. Fans of survival horror in the vein of Dawn Of The Dead, etc. should be excited about this. More on the video plus behind the scenes footage to follow shortly."
Century has an issued update regarding their new line-up and new album:
"Our new line up is complete. Please welcome back the incomparable Mr. Mikey G. For those who don't know, Mike has been Century's guitar player since the beginning of the band and he just recently decided to rejoin after our year-long hiatus, now filling out the bass position. I'm pretty sure I speak for everyone else in the band when I say that I'm incredibly stoked to have him back. Century v3.0's official line up is as follows:
Matthew Smith: drums
George Fava: guitar
Jason Baker: guitar
Mike Giuliano: bass
Carson Slovak: vocals
Thank you to all of the sweet brosephs that got in touch regarding try outs. I'm sorry we never made it that far, but hopefully you dudes can understand that Mike filling the final spot in the band was a no-brainer for us.
In other news, Black Ocean is nearing completion. We will be working with producer and long time friend/mentor Chad Taylor this month on all things vocal. The goal this time around is to create a super-raw, intense vibe, something that Faith and Failure lacked in favor of cleaner production. I am looking forward to experimenting with different ranges and intensities and having members of the band contribute vocals as well. Think Until Your Heart Stops meets Jane Doe, production-wise. No label has been decided upon for the release as of this writing.
We have already started setting up a few shows, which will be posted shortly. As the tentative release for Black Ocean is set for December, we will be organizing a very special record release show. More details on that to follow."
Lancaster, Pennsylvania outfit Century is currently in search of a bassist and a second guitar player. According to the group, "The band is purely for fun and nothing else. We are all grounded dudes and just want to play when the opportunity presents itself." Here are the requirements:
"You must be a sweet broseph without attitude problems. If you are already friends with us, that would be splendid. You should be good at your instrument and be able to play the music competently. You must approach playing as an opportunity to have fun, and not stress about it or pose out.You must be accountable, punctual and able to practice/play shows."
Interested parties should contact the band here for further information.
Century is currently finishing up a new full-length, titled "Black Ocean." According to band mastermind Carson Slovak, "Black Ocean has been over a year in the making and I am beyond excited for its completion. Since its inception in 2004 as an art project of mine to the release of the debut full-length, 'Faith and Failure', in 2007 as a full band, Century has undergone several manifestations and has now come full-circle."
Here's the "Black Ocean" track listing:
01. Terror Starts At Home
04. Black Ocean
06. Drug Mule
08. Rising Sun
10. Daylight Algorithm
The artwork (viewable online here) is comprised of an 8-panel digipak with an 18-panel poster-fold and UV gloss overlay. The layout also contains a cipher, which, when solved, reveals encrypted audio content. In addition, there will be a limited, hand-numbered run of poster prints released in conjunction with the album.
