Swiss metallers Samael were interviewed by Xtreme Music for the release of their book "The Spiritual Significance of Music." Xtreme Metal has issued the following excerpt from that interview by Samael front man Vorph:
"Music and mathematics are perhaps the only universal languages that can be understood by everyone. While mathematics needs to be learned, music does not need special qualifications to be comprehended, or at least to be appreciated. Words can be misleading and create confusion, but the sound of music always reaches those who are receptive. We can even connect to different styles of music depending on our mood. That connection bypasses all our preconceptions, and goes straight to the core of ourselves. So much can be said through music, with it’s deep and immediate ways of reaching us, it can strip down a message to the simplest form. Music is a transcendent method of communication, and in that sense, music is probably the closest thing to a spiritual manifestation."

"Day 1 Travel day. Oh the joys of waiting at airports they are endless and not worth mentioning.
"Day 2 Had the day to walk around Amsterdamn before the bus picked us up. Met up with Dave Kinkade (drummer supreme) and checked out some coffee shops and walked around the red light district. Good times. Caught up with the Vital guys roaming around the same section of town, who knew? Took a picture with Darth Vader, the Netherlands version. He's slightly thinner and has an accent, probably blonde hair too. Around 6pm we went back to the airport to meet up with Massive Music and the guys in Tribulation." More...

"This is due to situations in Arsis that are out of my hands. I do not feel that it is my place to go into specific reasons leading up to this decision but being the drummer of Arsis, it is in my best interest to NOT keep the fans in the dark. There are major personal and communication issues in this band that need be resolved before anything can continue as Arsis. I will leave it at that. Again, my apologies to the fans and the other bands on the bill.
"Due to the situation, I am available for session/ possible long-term drum work nationally and internationally. Those interested can contact me at: Anti_cosmic_drummer@yahoo.com
"On a positive note, the new Borknagar album is nearing the final completion stages. Having spoken with Øystein today, I am told that vocals and synths are well under way and we will all be meeting in Oslo at the end of April for the final mixing and mastering. So far, drums and guitars are finished and let me be the first to say that this album is going to be immense. By far the most brilliant material that Borknagar has ever written, this work is going to have all the “meat n’ potatoes” musically and production wise. I trust that all the fans will enjoy this effort."

The follow up to last years highly successful “Exhume to Consume” tour will feature SUICIDE SILENCE, SAMAEL, ARSIS and PSYCROPTIC plus a few special guests on select dates. Vocalist/bassist and all around optimistic person Jeff Walker commented:
"Well, I'm pleased to announce that CARCASS is gonna settle it's unresolved scores in the U.S.! There was some slight whimpers of discontent that we didn't hit some cities such as Chicago and Denver last time round - places that were always hot spots of enthusiasm for us. So we're coming back in March to finish off our unsettled business! We seemed to have had a profound influence on your economy and gas prices have gotten cheaper haha! That's doesn't mean we’re not gonna come through and provide some value for your buck with some old (and new) school friends and comrades such as SUFFOCATION, SAMAEL, BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, EXODUS, SUICIDE SILENCE etc. - check out locally as for who is on the bill where! And hey, I couldn't think of anywhere better to be on my 40th birthday than the Sunshine Theatre in Albuquerque, New Mexico! We promise this will be the last time we darken your shores (I said that with my fingers crossed behind my back)!"

Day 2 Haarlem Patronaat
Drove to Haarlem. John Lie and myself got up early and checked out an old cathedral. The new drummer of Arsis, Dave Kinkade, came to the show and we hung out. Show went very well and we were sounding tight. That warm up show in Tampa really paid off. Hanging out with the guys in the Amenta a lot and also talking to Legion from Devian, great guy. Ralph Santolla uses every chance to give John Li hell. It's hilarious. More...
