Sun Caged Mixing New Album

Sun Caged are currently in the process of mixing their third album which has the working title “The Lotus Effect,” which will mark their first effort with new bassist Daniel Kohn. Some titles of new songs include "Shades Of Hades," "Driftwood," "All But Gone," "Tip-Toe the Fault Line," "On Again / Off Again," "Lotus," "Seamripper & The Blanket Statement." Guitarist Marcel Coenen has commented on the new album, “Expect an album with some new influences, one song has a typically salsa groove throughout the song, an other song has a real blast beat in it, plus we also recorded a really long epic song, divided into seven parts (total length about 24 minutes) which will close the album.”

Sun Caged Announces New Bassist and Shows

After a long search, progressive metallers Sun Caged have found their new bass player in Daniel Kohn who is also a member of the German Progressive Metal band Vanilla Rex. His first shows with the band will be the two shows as support of the Swedish band Pain Of Salvation in December 2009.

Sun Caged will be supporting the Swedish band Pain Of Salvation during their two day appearance in the Netherlands at December 21st and December 22nd of 2009. Here are the details:

Monday December 21st: Boerderij Zoetermeer
Tuesday December 22nd: Bosuil, Weert

Sun Caged will play these gigs in the middle of finishing their new album, which will be ready somewhere at the end of this year and released somewhere in the spring/summer of 2010.

Guitarist Marcel Coenen has offered up the following information about their new album:

"The band first entered the studio for the third CD in March 2009. We are aiming for a summer 2010 release on Lion Music. The working title for the album is called 'The Lotus Effect.' Some titles of new songs: 'Shades Of Hades,' 'Driftwood,' 'All But Gone,' 'Tip-Toe the Fault Line,' 'On Again / Off Again,' 'Lotus,' 'Seamripper & The Blanket Statement' plus some more to come!

Sun Caged Seeks New Bassist

Dutch progressive metal band Sun Caged are looking for a bass player. The band issues the following statement on what kind of bassist they are looking for:

"- No beginners, experience and skills is needed. Think about names like Les Claypool, Geddy Lee, Jaco Pastorius, Gary Willis etc for the level of competence required.
- Your own working equipment and transportation is essential.
- A bassist with a low “B” string is required.
- You must have an affinity with Prog Music.
- You must be willing to rehearse on a weekly basis on Sunday afternoon in Lottum (Netherlands, Southern Area, close to the German Border)" More...

Sun Caged's "Artemisia" Digipak Sold Out

Sun Caged CD "Artemisia" Limited edition digipack (cat LMC200 via Lion Music) is sold out permanently and has now been replaced by a jewel case version featuring the new addition of the previously Japan only bonus track, a cover of the Genesis song "Land Of Confusion." Catalogue numbers for the new pressing are LMC237 /EAN6419922002377 and is available for shipping from May 19, 2008.

The band is currently writing new songs for the third album. About ten new songs are written musically, singer Paul Adrian is now writing his vocal lines and lyrics. More news will be released about this soon.

Sun Caged Guitarist Preps Solo DVD

The DVD editing of Sun Caged guitarist Marcel Coenen's upcoming live solo DVD is complete. The DVD is entitled "A Live Time Journey" and it will feature the whole show played at January 28th in Weert, NL. In addition on the DVD will also be a solo gig in Thailand, some backstage and rehearsal footage, a gallery and a biography. The release is currently set for September (subject to change).

Sun Caged Recruit New Bassist, Give Studio Report

Dutch progressive metallers Sun Caged have announced the addition of bassist Roel Vink to the group's ranks. "He is a young bass player with a lot of good musical ambitions, and we will start to work hard on learning him all the songs," comments guitarist Marcel Coenen.

Rob Van Der Loo [previous bassist] will play for the last time with the band on April the 27th in Tilburg (013, Batcave). Free entrance. Roel Vink will play live with the band for the first time at the Elsrock festival in Rijssen, The Netherlands on August 26th.

The band are currently in the studio recording the follow-up to their self-titled debut, tentatively due before the end of the year. All drums have been recorded, and now Marcel and Rene Kroon [keyboards] are recording their tracks, Barend Tromp (ex-Lemur Voice will play bass on a few songs, as well a sitar solo in one of the songs.

Song titles set to appear on the new CD include "Unborn", "Dialogue", "City Walls", "Re-Enter The Dream", "Doldrums", "Afraid To Fly", "Engelbert", "Blood Lines", "A Fair Trade" and "Missing Third". More information to follow.

Sun Caged Finds New Singer

Since Joost Van Den Broek (keyboard) and Andre Vuurboom (vocals) left Sun Caged earlier this year, Sun Caged is now back and complete. Joost Van Den Broek was replaced by Rene Kroon in July 2004 and Andre Vuurboom was just replaced by Paul Adrian Villarreal. Paul is currently still living in the USA, but he will relocate to Europe before the new year starts. The band is working on a new album which will be recorded at the end of 2005.
