King Diamond As Comfy As Old Boots

King Diamond has revealed to BW&BK that he's hoping to have retro Mercyful Fate and King Diamond DVDs released sometime in the future. The material, according to Diamond, is something "not even bootleg tape traders have seen."

Diamond says he been sent rare footage that has never circulated, including Mercyful Fate performances from 1982 and some of the first live King Diamond solo performances.

"I'm going to go through the 35 tapes soon and hand-pick the bits I like. Then I'm going to have a meeting with Brian Slagel (Metal Blade founder/president) to see if he's interested in releasing the DVDs."

When told that collectors will probably salivate at the prospect of these DVDs being released, Diamond was optimistic that the material will also appeal to more casual fans. "Some people don't trade bootlegs, it's not their thing," he says. "But they can also have fun watching these old, rare shows."

King Diamond's Manager Announces Warning For CD

The independent distributer in Germany named H'ART Music Vertrieb (not Massacre's main distributer) have a promo sheet in stock for the live album indicating that there's a BONUS CD/Disc available in one of the formats.

The listing reads like this: "LIMITED EDITION DIGIPACK + BONUS CD LIVE 2003," thus making it look/sound like there's a bonus disc included.

Some of you dedicated collectors might try and import this item, and will be very dissapointed. All the releases are identical. There is NO bonus CD in any form in any of the releases. The music purchased will be the same regardless of the format, be it 2CD, Digipack or 3LP set.

Megadeth Announce US Tour & Line-up

With their new CD "The System has Failed" hitting stores this week (Sanctuary Records) and its first single and video “Die Dead Enough” impacting airwaves, Meagdeth has announced dates for a U.S. tour. The 22-date trek by the iconic hard rock group kicks off October 23 in Reno, NV and wraps November 20 in Minneapolis, MN. Joining group founder and frontman Dave Mustaine will be Glen Drover (King Diamond/Eidolon) on guitar, James MacDonough (of Iced Earth) on bass and Nick Menza returns to the group on drums. The video for “Die Dead Enough” made its debut on MTV’s “Headbangers Ball” this past weekend and the song is spinning on Active Rock and Rock radio stations nationwide.

Of his touring partners for the “Blackmail The Universe Tour,” Mustaine says, “James is a guy with long hair and a lot of tattoos and is an animal on bass. We like that kind of danger on that side of the stage.” As for Drover, Mustaine calls him the “perfect fit,” and welcomes back Menza, who was in the group from 1990 through 1997.

After re-releasing eight Megadeth albums earlier this past summer, Mustaine returns with "The System has Failed," which Revolver described in a four-star review (October ’04) as “Megadeth’s most vengeful, poignant and musically complex offering since 1992’s Countdown To Extinction…Throw in political themes, apocalyptic lyrics…it’s clear that Megadeth are not just back, they’re paranoid, pissed, and motivated to destroy.”

Tour dates are as follows. More...

King Diamond To Release Live DVD

A live recording of the King Diamond track "Mansion In Darkness" has been posted online in MP3 format here.

"Mansion In Darkness" comes off the band's upcoming double live CD, "Deadly Lullabyes Live" (view cover), due on September 21 through Metal Blade Records. The album was recorded during the band's last U.S. tour and was mixed at guitarist Andy LaRocque's Los Angered studio outside Gothenburg, Sweden.

Regarding the upcoming live CD, vocalist King Diamond recently stated:

The new double live album simply KICKS ASSSSSSS!!!! Top-notch performance by everyone involved, including our amazing audiences. I don't think I have ever heard the old classic Diamond songs performed this well and this close to the originals. I speak for everyone when I say, that we have never had as much fun on stage as we had on this last tour, and it shows when you listen to the album. This is the ultimate King Diamond line-up at work ON STAGE. For my own part, my voice is stronger than ever, and singing old songs like 'Welcome Home' gives me more pleasure today than ever before. It's all there for our fans to hear, a King Diamond show from beginning to end, raw, in your face, loud, moody, brutal, horror, and awesome audience sing-alongs. It's King Diamond live!

King Diamond Refutes Rumours Regarding His Health

King Diamond has posted this message on his official website:

A lot of rumours (as usual) have been going on since we've learned that the European King Diamond Tour has been postponed. One of the more ridiculous ones we've heard was the one that King's health is very poor. This is absolutely NOT TRUE.

The ONLY reason for postponement of the Euro-Tour, is that my immigration/naturalization process with the US-government is taking longer than expected, and this procedure prevents me from leaving the country. I already missed the first test, and had to reschedule it, due to being on tour last November. This rescheduled test has still not taken place, and if I, for some reason, miss it, I will have to start the whole procedure all over again.

The reason for this taking so long, is probably because of all the extra precautions and checks the US-government has to take in these times of TERRORISM.

So.... in order to not waste any time, songwriting for the next King- album will start in a couple of weeks, and if everything goes without any problems, we might have the music recorded right before X-mas. Vocals would then be put down in January, and then who knows what? Mix the album? Tour? Where? That I can't see in my crystal ball. BUT, one thing is for sure, a European tour should happen next year. Until then, I hope the fans will enjoy the double LIVE-album.

By the way, my health is excellent!

Force Of Evil Guitarist Talks About Influences

In an interview with Electricbasement.com, FORCE OF EVIL guitarist HANK SHERMANN downplays his other band's influence on black metal, "I don't see us [MERCYFUL FATE] as being originators in the genre really, other than regarding King's [KING DIAMOND] lyrics and stage presence. Musically we were inspired by other bands such as Judas Priest. I think it's really King Diamond's lyrics and stage presence that has inspired a lot of Black Metal bands, plus our songs have a lot of cool atmospheres that maybe a lot of bands like to imitate."

Regarding his own influences, he had high praise for MICHAEL SCHENKER's "timing and tone", but was disappointed when seeing him live, "...I did have the privilege of seeing him with Uli Roth and [Joe] Satriani on the G3 tour. I believe it was in Copenhagen. For me it was seeing Uli Roth as he was very professional, a serious performer, Schenker was in pretty bad shape, and he couldn't even perform. He had to sit down, it was a load of crap. I know {Mercyful Fate, Force of Evil guitarist] Michael Denner saw him in 1975 in UFO around the time of Force It . He thought it was amazing."

James Murphy Updates On Within The Mind Project

Former TESTAMENT/DEATH guitarist James Murphy has issued the following update regarding his upcoming DEATH tribute project, "Within The Mind - In Homage To The Musical Legacy Of Chuck Schuldiner" (web site), tentatively due in June through Holland's Mascot Records:

"This past Saturday [Feb. 21] I traveled to Orlando to Richard Christy's [ICED EARTH, ex-DEATH, CONTROL DENIED] warehouse where he and I practiced the songs which he will be playing on for the 'Within The Mind' project. on the first passes through the songs we nailed them... it sounded more like we had been playing together for months rather than minutes. Richard is a very disciplined and talented musician and clearly those traits, along with his love for the music of DEATH and Chuck Schuldiner, have pushed him to put a good amount of his free time into practicing for the upcoming session. The results will be awesome, I'm more than certain.

King Diamond's Live Album To Be Mixed In March

KING DIAMOND guitarist Andy LaRocque will begin mixing the group's upcoming live album at the end of March at his Los Angered studio outside Gothenburg, Sweden. According to a posting on the band's web site, "no details are known at the moment such as album title, if it's going to be 2 CD etc. Andy [said] however that most of the song the band played on the USA tour will be on the album."

In a recent interview with Denmark's Metal Reference, frontman King Diamond discussed the recording process for the live CD:

"We wanted to have [the album] released earlier than this, but it seemed quite inappropriate as there was no tour to support 'Abigail 2', and we obviously have to conduct more shows than that if we want to select some of the better parts for a live release," he said. "But we definitely thought at that time that we would be able to release a live album".

Asked if the recordings will also be released on DVD, King said, "Oh, no. It's going to be a double live album, this one, and it was recorded on our last US tour, and we almost recorded all the shows for this purpose. A live DVD will probably surface later, and both my record labels Metal Blade and Massacre are interested in joining forces to release it. [The DVD] will however feature live material from our European tour, and this is likely to happen right after summertime 2004".

Single Bullet Theory Taps King Diamond Drummer

Philadelphia-based extreme metallers SINGLE BULLET THEORY will reportedly be utilizing the services of KING DIAMOND drummer Matt Thompson during the recording sessions for the new SBT album. At the present time, it is unclear whether Matt will join SBT as a full-fledged member. "We are actually using two excellent drummers for this disc," SINGLE BULLET THEORY guitarist/singer Matt Difabio stated. "The other guy is a good buddy of mine named Jason Dunkerly who is utterly amazing... It's gonna be great to have two excellent drummers on the disc." There is no official word yet as to how many songs either player will perform but there has been word of a classic metal cover being re-vamped.

SINGLE BULLET THEORY will begin recording the follow-up to 2003's "Route 666" (Crash/Pavement) at Angry Chair studios in Glenside, Pa. The record will be titled "Behind Eyes Of Hatred" and will be mixed by James Murphy (TESTAMENT, DEATH, DISINCARNATE).

Original SINGLE BULLET THEORY drummer John Sasso announced his departure after the band recently finished a U.S. tour with KING DIAMOND, ENTOMBED and NOCTURNE.

The band, who are currently receiving airplay on "Headbanger's Ball", "Extreme Rock" and "Uranium", are still looking for a full-time drummer to join once the disc is complete. Interested parties can contact the band at Thebullettheory@aol.com.
