James Murphy Updates On Within The Mind Project

Former TESTAMENT/DEATH guitarist James Murphy has issued the following update regarding his upcoming DEATH tribute project, "Within The Mind - In Homage To The Musical Legacy Of Chuck Schuldiner" (web site), tentatively due in June through Holland's Mascot Records:

"This past Saturday [Feb. 21] I traveled to Orlando to Richard Christy's [ICED EARTH, ex-DEATH, CONTROL DENIED] warehouse where he and I practiced the songs which he will be playing on for the 'Within The Mind' project. on the first passes through the songs we nailed them... it sounded more like we had been playing together for months rather than minutes. Richard is a very disciplined and talented musician and clearly those traits, along with his love for the music of DEATH and Chuck Schuldiner, have pushed him to put a good amount of his free time into practicing for the upcoming session. The results will be awesome, I'm more than certain.

King Diamond's Live Album To Be Mixed In March

KING DIAMOND guitarist Andy LaRocque will begin mixing the group's upcoming live album at the end of March at his Los Angered studio outside Gothenburg, Sweden. According to a posting on the band's web site, "no details are known at the moment such as album title, if it's going to be 2 CD etc. Andy [said] however that most of the song the band played on the USA tour will be on the album."

In a recent interview with Denmark's Metal Reference, frontman King Diamond discussed the recording process for the live CD:

"We wanted to have [the album] released earlier than this, but it seemed quite inappropriate as there was no tour to support 'Abigail 2', and we obviously have to conduct more shows than that if we want to select some of the better parts for a live release," he said. "But we definitely thought at that time that we would be able to release a live album".

Asked if the recordings will also be released on DVD, King said, "Oh, no. It's going to be a double live album, this one, and it was recorded on our last US tour, and we almost recorded all the shows for this purpose. A live DVD will probably surface later, and both my record labels Metal Blade and Massacre are interested in joining forces to release it. [The DVD] will however feature live material from our European tour, and this is likely to happen right after summertime 2004".

Single Bullet Theory Taps King Diamond Drummer

Philadelphia-based extreme metallers SINGLE BULLET THEORY will reportedly be utilizing the services of KING DIAMOND drummer Matt Thompson during the recording sessions for the new SBT album. At the present time, it is unclear whether Matt will join SBT as a full-fledged member. "We are actually using two excellent drummers for this disc," SINGLE BULLET THEORY guitarist/singer Matt Difabio stated. "The other guy is a good buddy of mine named Jason Dunkerly who is utterly amazing... It's gonna be great to have two excellent drummers on the disc." There is no official word yet as to how many songs either player will perform but there has been word of a classic metal cover being re-vamped.

SINGLE BULLET THEORY will begin recording the follow-up to 2003's "Route 666" (Crash/Pavement) at Angry Chair studios in Glenside, Pa. The record will be titled "Behind Eyes Of Hatred" and will be mixed by James Murphy (TESTAMENT, DEATH, DISINCARNATE).

Original SINGLE BULLET THEORY drummer John Sasso announced his departure after the band recently finished a U.S. tour with KING DIAMOND, ENTOMBED and NOCTURNE.

The band, who are currently receiving airplay on "Headbanger's Ball", "Extreme Rock" and "Uranium", are still looking for a full-time drummer to join once the disc is complete. Interested parties can contact the band at Thebullettheory@aol.com.
