Latest King Diamond News
Below is our complete King Diamond news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Note: We began associating news directly with bands in late 2003. Therefore, earlier band news may not be listed on this page.
Ever since the firing of bassist Hal Patino, a flurry of statements from both camps has ensued - airing dirty laundry of the past and present.
Patino performed on the following King Diamond releases: "Them" (1988), "Conspiracy" (1989), "The Eye" (1990), "Abigail II: The Revenge" (2002), "The Puppet Master" (2003), "Deadly Lullabyes Live" (2004) and the latest studio effort "Give Me Your Soul....Please" (2007).
This past Saturday, Patino issued the following response statement just hours after the official statement was released by King Diamond:
"After 19 years in King Diamond - bassist Hal Patino has decided to leave the group. It's sad that it had to end this way after - 19 years. I have always been 100% loyal to everyone in the band, and have always given my everything -onstage and offstage. Since day one I have always had King Diamond as my nr. 1 priority. I've never ever missed any shows or rehearsals - my performances have always been well prepared (and I've always been ahead of the game). I have been a faithful friend to King, and kept my spirits up even in the toughest times.
"I will not go into every detail, but the salary I was offered to headline Wacken Open Air, and the 4 other shows this summer was totally ridiculous. Two days before the first rehearsal day, I wrote an e-mail explaining my view on that topic along with a proposal for a fair and realistic salary for these shows, For this, they accused me of’ 'blackmailing'!!!
"I found it disrespectful, and told them that if that is how I get treated after 19 years, we part immediately !! So I already left the band on Thursday the 17th of July, by my own choice. Of course it's not the only reason why I have decided to leave. Problems already occurred during the last European tour. Suddenly there were rules for my stage clothes and my way of performing, and there were bad vibes because I promoted and helped my son's band.
"It’s typical King to say that I’m fired - he did the same to me back in 1990 when he told the press that I was kicked out of the band due to lack of enthusiasm and drug problems. That was NOT the reason … It was just Too much touring, King got dropped by Roadrunner Records, and I wanted to go in another direction. He did the same to my best friends Mikkey Dee and Pete Blakk. King Diamond, who recently announced a North American Tour for this fall (the first full fledged tour since his triple bypass surgery over three years ago), has fired long time bassist Hal Patino.
In an announcement on Facebook, King stated: "Hal Patino has been relieved of his duties with King Diamond, for reasons very similar to why he was fired from the band in 1990. This will have NO negative impact on our upcoming shows whatsoever. On the contrary."
Patino is expected to make a statement on the situation later today via Facebook, where his latest post reads: "Hal Patino Leaves King Diamond! An official statement will be announced later today on why I've decided to leave the King Diamond band."
King Diamond is currently working on a new album, the first in seven years (2007's "Give Me Your Soul....Please"). The album is slated for release sometime in 2015, as King will await the building of his home studio in order to start recording.
The North American tour is set to commence on October 11th in Atlanta. More...

King Diamond has issued the following statement about not performing at the Loud Park festival in Japan:
"Let me try and explain this without saying **** all the time.
"The Japanese promoters at Loud Park had, when I woke up this morning, posted a false and deceitful cancellation announcement, which they are going to have to correct to what really happened.
"First of all: We did not cancel the show. The promoters did.
"Let them show an email saying we cancelled the show. They can't. We can provide the email in which they cancelled.
"They cancelled so late, that some of our people were already in flight to Japan. I myself found out from a forwarded email at 4:26 am Dallas time, waiting for a preordered cab to arrive at 6:00 am to take me to DFW International Airport.
"The email had come from Onta (working for the promoter, in what capacity, I don't know, but at least in a capacity to be able to cancel our performance), saying 'Sorry for the result. Please stop taking flights for all…'
"So much had happened up to this point, and I will try to condense everything into a short sequence of events.
"Entire theatrical production, including all instruments and special effects had been put into the professional care of a Danish shipping company, who is also used by Rocket Cargo among others, in order to make sure everything would be in Tokyo with time to spare. This was trucked from Copenhagen to Hamburg harbor, and loaded onto a Chinese ship. More...

Tuska Open Air Metal Festival promised to be an event to remember this year, with huge acts such as King Diamond, Wintersun and Nightwish taking command of the main stage! With finally perfect summer weather and a lineup that challenged many other summer festivals, Friday came with much awaited anticipation!
Many of the bands this year were scheduled at the same time, perhaps the cause of this was that in the past there have always been four stages, but this year there were only three. Only two of these stages allowed media to shoot footage and photos, which led to a massive and unfortunate stress factor to an otherwise phenomenal festival experience. In addition, overcrowded photo pits with unqualified photographers led to an unfortunate decline in coverage from other medias this year. Die hard Tuska fans and Medias still showed up in hordes, and showed why Tuska is still the metal festival to be at in Helsinki! More...
Couldn't make it to Belgium this weekend for the Graspop Metal Meeting? Good news is that the festival will be streaming live over at this location. The live stream has two channels streaming from the various stages.

Friday, June 28th:
Heaven Shall Burn
All That Remains
Veil of Maya
Love and Death
The Monolith Deathcult
Generation Kill More...
There’s yet more thrash for Bloodstock with Northern Irish upstarts Gama Bomb landing an opening slot on the Ronnie James Dio mainstage. The band is looking forward to churning up the Catton Park turf, commenting:
“Bloodstock: it’s just like Woodstock, but for heavy metal types, and replacing the love and peace with chips and Carling! And Slayer! Our UK fans have been asking for this for years, and now the dream is real. So pack your tent, back up your arse with bananas and send the word – The G-Bomb are comin’ to Bloodstock!"
The band’s fourth album, "The Terror Tapes," will be released next Monday 22nd April on AFM Records. Check out the new video for "Terrorscope" right here.
British heavy metal standard bearers Beholder also step in to an early mainstage slot on Saturday. Frontman Simon Hall says “For Beholder to actually be asked to do this, without me dropping to my knees and pleading like a bitch is a true acknowledgment of where the band is right now. To be on the best Bloodstock line-up ever is something we’re not going to approach lightly, and on Saturday 10th August, let’s show the rest of the world how true British Metal fans rule all!!”

The track "Room 24" features a massive coup for Volbeat with the guest appearance from King Diamond, the legendary front man of Danish metal pioneers Mercyful Fate, and one of Poulsen's musical idols. Volbeat reveals, "I'm a huge fan of Mercyful Fate and King Diamond. Having King on the record is a huge privilege. Normally, it's not something he does.
