earMUSIC, the international rock label of the Hamburg-based entertainment group Edel, has announced the signing of American/Norwegian melodic metallers Kamelot. The band's new studio album, "Poetry For The Poisoned," will be released in Europe on September 3, 2010.
"I think this album is by far our most diverse, fusing new ideas and elements along with the traditional Kamelot sound and style that we have established over the years," states Kamelot guitarist Thomas Youngblood.
"Poetry for the Poisoned" was mostly written in the remote woods of Norway to the final songwriting sessions in a remote region of Germany. Recordings took place in the familiar Gate Studios in Wolfsburg, Germany with producers Sascha Paeth and Miro. Additional tracking also took place in Tampa, Florida as well as various studios in Sweden, Greece and the U.S.
"Poetry for the Poisoned" features guest appearances by Simone Simons (Epica), Gus G. (Ozzy Osbourne, Firewind), Björn "Speed" Strid (Soilwork) and Jon Oliva (Savatage, Jon Oliva's Pain). The artwork was created by many great artists, including Seth Siro Anton, Natalie Shau and Michal Loranc.
"'Poetry for the Poisoned' is a mix of progressive elements, modern rock, dark arts and also power metal," states Youngblood. "It comes at a time where many people around the world are searching for something to grab on to spiritually, including myself. I recently lost my mother and to be honest it was very hard on me. So there are some melancholy moods reflected on this album."
Frontman Roy Khan assures that "Poetry for the Poisoned" will both please the band's existing following and expose the universe of Kamelot to a whole range of new fans. "'Poetry for the Poisoned' is our longest and toughest production so far, but when I hear the result I know it was well worth the struggle," he says.
Max Vaccaro, director of the earMUSIC label, commented: "If there is one thing that is absolutely clear with Kamelot, it's that the band has a unique vision of metal and they consider anything they do as the 'next step' to something bigger and better, constantly adamant to reach new ambitious artistic targets. We're happy about the fact that they have chosen earMUSIC as the partner to expand their audience with this new wonderful album."
"Poetry For The Poisoned" will also be available as a limited edition hard-cover digipak CD with a bonus DVD, LP and limited collector's edition featuring a bonus 45" vinyl with two rare songs only available on this strictly limited format, personally signed by the band.
Kamelot recently tapped Swedish director Owe Lingvall of Village Road Films for the video shoot and production of the song "The Great Pandemonium". The track, which was performed on the band's recently completed European tour, will appear on "Poetry For The Poisoned". Other songtitles set to appear on the effort include "House On A Hill"and "Hunters Season", the latter of which was also performed on the band's recently completed European headlining tour.
Kamelot recently inked a deal with Marquee/Avalon Records for the Japanese release of its next album. The plans for the North American release will be announced in the near future.

Epica has posted the following message explaining why the show in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, has been cancelled:
"We have received many (angry) e-mails and messages about the cancelled show in Belo Horizonte (while we were completely unaware of the situation). That is why we have asked our Brazilian booker, Paulo, what happened and why this show wasn't happening anymore. Apparently the local promotor fron Belo Horizonte refused to supply an acceptable set of backline equipment and an adequate PA-system for the show and Paulo was not able to rseolve this problem with him. Paulo tried to switch the show to a different local promotor in Belo Horizonte without success.
"We have received messages like: 'We are so disappointed with the band because we hear that you all are requiring silly things that will make the show more expensive for us! your fans...'
Be sure that we never require silly things and the only reason that we ask for a decent backline and PA us that we want to offer you, our fans, a good show. Nobody will be happy when a show sounds like shit.
"We are very disappointed as well that Paulo and the local promotor were not able to solve the problems. We play almost a 100 shows a year and normally these kind of issues get solved without any problem. Please don't blame the band for this, we only want the best for everybody and we hope to be able to play Belo Horizonte in the near future!
"The show has been replaced with a new show in Rio de Janeiro on the same date."
In other news, Epica will be playing the album "Consign to Oblivion" in its entirety at the Effenaar in Eindhoven, NL on March 21st to celebrate the album's fifth anniversary.

Paul Ablaze of Montreal's Blackguard has checked in with the following recap of the From Afar tour, headlined by Ensiferum this past fall:
"Another tour in the Bag , Another notch on the belt , and Another round of good times were had by all.
"For a tour that seemed destined to fall apart on itself just before it's start, I believe it exceeded all expectation by a long shot. With Ex Deo pulling out for the majority of the tour and Hypocrisy having to bail all together, the future looked very bleak. But at the end of the day it was Ensiferums call to bite the bullet and pull ahead with the tour, and for that we cannot thank them enough.
"As disappointed as we were not being able to tour with those two amazing bands, their absences proved to be a blessing in disguise. Being bumped up to direct support might have been one of the best things to happen to us, and with the addition of Lazarus A.D we got to become friends with some of the most badass people we've ever met.
"Although the crowds might have been smaller overall, we got to play to more people every night and our new position on the tour certainly motivated us to step up our game.
"This tour being quite the contrast to our last tour (Summer slaughter) in pace and scale, it was a little more relaxed and offered us some more down time to breath. That being said here are some of my more memorable moments from 'from afar' More...
