As you may know, Chi Cheng, bass player for the Deftones, is currently in a semi-conscious state following an automobile accident in Santa Clara, CA on November 4th, 2008. Chi is slowly making progress but he needs your help.
Fieldy has organized an amazing cast of musicians from Machine Head, Metallica, Korn, Hatebreed, Slipknot, Killswitch Engage, Sevendust and more to record an epic song for Chi.
You can help support Chi and his family by heading over to the A Song For Chi site where you can download your free copy of the song, watch the music video and make a donation. 100% of your donation will go to Chi and his family to help cover his ongoing medical expenses.

Deftones has commented on their recent and first show in Korea, as well as their itinerary for the near future:
"We want to thank the fans in Korea for coming out and seeing us at Pentaport – it was our first time to the country and after this trip, certainly not our last. Show was great, the people were better... Euro dates in a few weeks, then new record, then world tour... Can’t wait to get out there and see all of you."
You can check out some photos from the Korean show on their MySpace blog.
The Deftones have issued the following update on bassist Chi Cheng's condition as well as their progress in the studio. Here's the update from the band directly:
"What’s up! We want to take a minute and address all of you regarding Chi and our new record:
"First and foremost, we are all still praying and hoping for our brother’s and bandmate’s recovery. He continues to get hospital care, but often it feels as if we’re no closer to knowing what is ultimately going to happen to him as he continues to fight off infections as part of an ongoing battle with his condition. We trust all of you have been following his progress at One Love For Chi; we have as well. Whenever we have significant information regarding his condition, we will share it with all of you. In the meantime, we’re working on getting a benefit show together for Chi in Los Angeles this fall; details will follow very soon.
"Let’s all continue to channel positive energy into the universe for Chi’s recovery.
"There has been a lot of speculation lately about what is going on with the record: Eros for one, and Chi’s parts, and this new record that we are currently tracking.
"The songs recorded for Eros are very special to us as they are the latest with Chi (and we certainly hope not the last); they have history and significant meaning to us. However, as we neared completion on Eros, we realized that this record doesn’t best encompass and represent who we are currently as people and as musicians. And although those songs will see the light of day at some point, we collectively made the decision that we needed to take a new approach, and with Chi’s condition heavy on our minds while doing so. We needed to return to the studio to do what we felt was right artistically. Our inspiration and unity as a band is stronger than it has ever been before and we needed to channel that energy into our music, and deliver to our fans what you rightly deserve: the best Deftones record that we can make.
"The decision to hold off on releasing Eros has no connection with Chi’s condition or anything associated. This was, and is, purely a creative decision by the band to write, record, and deliver an amazing product. As a result we feel like this is the best record we’ve ever written. And although Chi is not playing bass with us, his presence is dramatically felt in our hearts and on our minds everyday when we step into that studio, and you will feel it in the music.
"We have some dates coming up this summer as you know, and the best thing that we can do now is to try to return this situation to the closest thing to normalcy as possible. The stage is our home, and you are our family.
"Please remember, only Deftones speak for Deftones, so we will continue to periodically release official statements.
"More to come soon."

Chi Cheng's mother has written a personal letter directly to her son's friends, fans and supporters. This will serve as a press release as it does offer news and updates on his condition. It also announces recent fundraising efforts launched to help aid in Chi Cheng's medical expenses and much needed therapy:
"This has been a difficult time since Chi was injured four months ago. He remains in a coma and is slowly waking up. The entire Cheng family would like to take this opportunity to extend our tremendous gratitude for the worldwide outpouring of prayers, love and support. You have opened your hearts and have been the blessings that have made our situation bearable. Your kind words, shared stories, doing the 'good deed of the day' (which I would love to start again), and most of all your prayers for Chi have kept us from feeling alone or helpless. There have been so many faces and names that would always show up when I could get to a computer. It was like going home to see you sharing and caring. More...
The Deftones have been confirmed to appear at Bamboozle Left on April 5th at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Irvine, CA. Tickets are on-sale at 10am this Saturday at thebamboozle.com.
With the announcement of their appearance on Bamboozle, they felt the need to address Chi Cheng's condition and related news:
"First, Chi. Our fallen comrade has not made significant progress as of late, but continues to fight on from his accident. Doctors are working feverishly to return our brother to us, and we continue to hold out hope and faith that Chi returns to the life he has waiting for him and can join us on stage once again.
"For everyone that knows Chi, knows that he never wanted down time. Chi always wanted to keep working and never slow down, which is why we feel confident in returning to the stage at Bamboozle in April. Chi would want it, and we want to make sure we're keeping his legacy alive.
"Back in 1999, Chi had to leave the band for a brief moment and our closefriend Sergio Vega filled in to keep the train moving. 10 years later, Sergio is going to step in once again while Chi is down. Sergio is family to us, and had received Chi's blessing before, so without a doubt we know that if Chi could tell us now, he would give us his blessing again.
"In the meantime, we continue work on our record, and as for Bamboozle, we felt like we needed to poke our heads up for a quick breath before we buckle down and get this record finished... So we'll see you all in Irvine."

Deftones drummer Abe Cunningham has posted the following message online:
"I spoke to Chi's mother this morning, the Neurosurgeon treating Chi says the first 72 hours are critical, and as of now he is fighting the good fight and the doctors remain optimistic. We are seeing your prayers in action. The family asks that all the prayer warriors out there to continue to pray for Chi, and keep sending out your positive energy!
"Today's good deed for Chi is to call someone you love, remind them of that love by saying "I love you," and like yesterday remind them to buckle up.
Deftones vocalist Chino Moreno has posted the following message online:
"I am back from up North visiting our brother Cheng. His condition remains the same - serious, but stable. We, along with the entire Cheng family, would like to extend our gratitude to everyone that's said a prayer or sent out their positive thoughts to Chi. Your support means more than you know.
"During his recovery process, Chi's mother has asked that each day we spread a little bit of good in his name. So each day Deftones will be posting what you can do to help Chi recover. Today, she has asked that you all remember to buckle your seat belts, and remind those you love to buckle up. By doing something so little in his name, you will be helping him find the strength to recover.
"Thank you, and please check back daily.

He is currently in a Northern California Hospital in serious, but stable condition. I am on my way up North right now to be by his side along with the rest of our band mates and family. Chi is one of the strongest people I know, and I'm praying that his strength will get him through this. Please say a prayer for him as well.
