Blind Guardian Posts Clip From New Live Release

Krefeld, Germany-based progressive power metallers Blind Guardian announced the release of the first live record in 14 years, just a few weeks ago.

Guitarist André Olbrich reveals why the time has come for "Live Beyond The Spheres": "There's several different reasons why it's about time to release a live album. We've had a new rhythm section in the band - Frederik and Bahrend - for a couple of years now. Our interaction improved a lot by their joining and our songs developed a better groove and became more dynamic. The appearance of digital amp profilers and digital recording techniques also made it possible to create a fairly similar sonic image in different venues and to fulfil our image of what a perfect live album should be. Last but not least; we released three studio albums since our previous live album, and we didn't have any live recordings from our relatively current studio material. By compiling a 3-disc package, we were able to create a very extensive and varied set list to reflect our 30-year career with an optimal performances."

The 22-song package will be purchasable as a 3CD digipak as well as a 4LP boxset. Besides all-time classics such as "The Bard's Song (In The Forest)," "Valhalla" and "Mirror, Mirror," rather rarely performed songs like "And Then There Was Silence" are also a part of this live record.

"We compiled one 'show' out of the best tracks from more than 40 live performances, recorded during our European tour in 2015. That's how we pinned down the most beautiful and atmospheric moments on this medium," he added.

With the live version of "Mirror, Mirror," Blind Guardian releases one of the above-mentioned classics from "Live Beyond The Spheres" today. The track plus video material from the past tour can be watched in the player below.

André comments on the track: "'Mirror, Mirror' is one of the biggest classics from Blind Guardian; known for being celebrated by both, band and fans, at the end of every live show."

Blind Guardian Announces New Live Release

There's some big news today for Blind Guardian: the progressive power metal pioneers are proud to announce the release of a new 3CD package/4LP package entitled "Live Beyond The Spheres"! The release will include material recorded from various shows during the European tour in 2015 – and it will contain old classics, new tracks as well as songs that are played very rarely live. "Live Beyond The Spheres’ is scheduled to be released on July 7th via Nuclear Blast as a 3CD and 4LP Box.

Vocalist Hansi Kürsch spoke about the difficulties in creating such an ambitious album: "In general, I would say that we've had a really good run throughout this tour and that nearly every show was perfect. But at the end of the day, after every one of us had checked through every single song and concert of those 30 shows again and again, there was only something like two or three versions of each song that were suitable to be used for an album. We then had to decide between those final versions; which one the most impressive one was. This was a nearly endless task!"

But as we all know, Blind Guardian stands for perfectionism in every way: "The final songs chosen contain such an energy, that tiny mistakes appeared to be completely unimportant. As soon as you listen to the songs, you will know what I mean, they feel completely alive".

But in the end, the effort was all worth it. Hansi sums up: "There is always something happening at each show, let's call it 'MAGIC', that gives us all a shiver up our spine. We are really satisfied when people sing with us, have a good time and go back home happy."

The CD track listings will read as follows:

CD 1:

1. The Ninth Wave
2. Banish From Sanctuary
3. Nightfall
4. Prophecies
5. Tanelorn
6. The Last Candle
7. And Then There Was Silence

CD 2:

1. The Lord Of The Rings
2. Fly
3. Bright Eyes
4. Lost In The Twilight Hall
5. Imaginations From The Other Side
6. Into The Storm
7. Twilight Of The Gods
8. A Past And Future Secret
9. And The Story Ends More...

Blind Guardian show review - Tampa Bay (9/9/2016)

Legendary German metallers, Blind Guardian, recently started their current North American tour, entitled "Imaginations for North America." The second date took place at one of Florida's most illustrious music locations, Ybor City's The Orpheum, on September 9th. They definitely delivered one of the most electrifying performances experienced by a Tampa Bay crowd over the course of 2016.

After more than three decades refining and redefining the Power Metal genre, the appeal of the German quartet (who were accompanied onstage by three additional musicians) seems impossible to emulate. Their commanding stage presence obliterated the extremely enthusiastic crowd gathered for the occasion. They sang along with vocalist, Hansi Kürsch and their comrades, most of the repertoire the band offered that night—which included anthems like rapid-fire heavy metallers like "Mirror, Mirror," and "Valhalla," acoustic fan-favorite "The Bard's Song" and of course, the complete performance of their acclaimed 1995 opus, "Imaginations From The Other Side."

Despite a couple of minor technical audio issues here and there (really, very minor), this show was a true religious experience for everyone present that night at The Orpheum. Everyone was ecstatic in the presence of one of Germany's most enduring and beloved Metal entities. There was a true air of brotherhood among those present—both the band and the fans. Blind Guardian undoubtedly demonstrated on that unforgettable night that, 30 years into their career, they're still on top form and ready to reach new heights.

Even if you're not fond of anthemic, fist-raising Power Metal, we highly recommend you to see Blind Guardian live during their current North American tour... you will become a believer, guaranteed.

Blind Guardian To Perform Full Album

Blind Guardian has revealed the band will be performing the entire "Imaginations from the Other Side" album on upcoming tour dates, including the group's stop at Prog Power USA. Hansi Kürsch comments:

"Good morning, good afternoon, good evening or good night. Be it late, be it early or somewhere in between, I suppose, that matches all of your actual statuses, no matter where you are. As a constant time traveler it is not a big deal for me to cope with all of these paradoxes at once. Where was I? Oh, I have not even started, yet…

"I’ve got something to say. Here it comes. Now. In just a second.

"Though the festival season is keeping us busy for a little while longer (and we’re enjoying every single moment of it) our restless thoughts are moving further, already, traveling to places beyond your imagination (*spoiler warning*). Physically, captured in the Here and Now (no direct reference to 'Beyond the Red Mirror' intended here), our minds are already heading westward and into the future. More...

Blind Guardian To Appear In New Video Game

The Dwarves are tough - made from stone by their god Vraccas, they are rough warriors and skilled craftsmen. The love for all kinds of metal is in their blood and there is only one genre of music that can truly compliment the thunder of their sledgehammers and the clash of their battle axes: METAL!

Developer King Art is very pleased to announce today that a cooperation with Blind Guardian has been confirmed. Not only will musicians from Blind Guardian perform parts of The Dwarves OST in their own unique style but there will also be a special quest involving Blind Guardian in the game.

To perfectly blend that into the fantasy-world of Girdlegard, the developers from King Art and Blind Guardian are cooperating closely with the author of The Dwarves book series.

A newly released video shows the game developers visiting Blind Guardian’s studio, where members of the band are playing The Dwarves for the very first time. Check it out below.

If you haven't contributed to the Kickstarter campaign yet for the upcoming PC and console game, be sure to do so right here. The Dwarves is expected out in summer of 2016. More...

The 70,000 Ton Hangover

Can 21st-century metalheads ever be truly happy if they’re not bitching about something on the web?

The pointless arguments over bands’ music, which mostly boil down to matters of taste, are exhausting enough. And there’s a simple solution to dissatisfaction with a particular tour package: stay home and masturbate.

But complaining about festival lineups? Really?

I have some news for you, sport: the only Perfect Metal Festival Lineup, which exists only in an individual’s imagination, attracts an audience of one. Your Perfect Lineup is different from mine.

There needs to be a common denominator, a compromise. I don’t know about you, but when I’m not basking in my serene, elite metal knowledge via trve and righteous, smarmy and self-congratulatory screeds on Facebook, I actually enjoy watching a live show in the company of others. And in reaching the compromise to make that social event possible, everyone’s Perfect Lineup inevitably becomes less than perfect. Such is the transition from fantasy to reality.

In the process, like small children finally realizing that vegetables aren’t going to kill them, we learn that the reality is almost always better than the fantasy (discounting the fact that the latter doesn’t exist). MTV’s Butt-Head once mused on this very issue: “If nothing sucked, and everything was, like, cool all the time… how would you KNOW it was cool?”

At a several-day festival with dozens of bands on multiple stages, we NEED at least a handful of acts we know we can ignore. Otherwise, think of the immense pressure to be constantly on our feet, rushing back and forth, watching every equally important band with rapt attention. Even if possible, it would be simply overwhelming. We’d pass out from exhaustion and forget to enjoy ourselves. Plus, the truly special acts wouldn’t seem as special.

Last summer at Tuska Open Air in Helsinki, rather than bitch about the injustice of Bring Me The Horizon directly preceding Anthrax, I was grateful for the chance to relax and have a beer before catching a show by one of the Big Four. More...
