Legendary German metallers, Blind Guardian, recently started their current North American tour, entitled "Imaginations for North America." The second date took place at one of Florida's most illustrious music locations, Ybor City's The Orpheum, on September 9th. They definitely delivered one of the most electrifying performances experienced by a Tampa Bay crowd over the course of 2016.
After more than three decades refining and redefining the Power Metal genre, the appeal of the German quartet (who were accompanied onstage by three additional musicians) seems impossible to emulate. Their commanding stage presence obliterated the extremely enthusiastic crowd gathered for the occasion. They sang along with vocalist, Hansi Kürsch and their comrades, most of the repertoire the band offered that night—which included anthems like rapid-fire heavy metallers like "Mirror, Mirror," and "Valhalla," acoustic fan-favorite "The Bard's Song" and of course, the complete performance of their acclaimed 1995 opus, "Imaginations From The Other Side."
Despite a couple of minor technical audio issues here and there (really, very minor), this show was a true religious experience for everyone present that night at The Orpheum. Everyone was ecstatic in the presence of one of Germany's most enduring and beloved Metal entities. There was a true air of brotherhood among those present—both the band and the fans. Blind Guardian undoubtedly demonstrated on that unforgettable night that, 30 years into their career, they're still on top form and ready to reach new heights.
Even if you're not fond of anthemic, fist-raising Power Metal, we highly recommend you to see Blind Guardian live during their current North American tour... you will become a believer, guaranteed.

"Road To Wacken" delivers fascinating insights on the daily routine of an experienced band and shows the everyday life at the festival between adventurous fun and hard work.
Frontman Hansi Kürsch revealed: "Wacken festival is a very personal thing for me as I saw it growing as a musician. With Bling Guardian, I have played here six times. But I have also participated in Wacken for other bands and promotional activities. Spectators can look forward to extremely amazing footage in 'Road To Wacken,' which will bring the phenomenon of Wacken straight into their living rooms. I can very well imagine that one or two will want to go to Wacken next year after watching this."

Blind Guardian has revealed the band will be performing the entire "Imaginations from the Other Side" album on upcoming tour dates, including the group's stop at Prog Power USA. Hansi Kürsch comments:
"Good morning, good afternoon, good evening or good night. Be it late, be it early or somewhere in between, I suppose, that matches all of your actual statuses, no matter where you are. As a constant time traveler it is not a big deal for me to cope with all of these paradoxes at once. Where was I? Oh, I have not even started, yet…
"I’ve got something to say. Here it comes. Now. In just a second.
"Though the festival season is keeping us busy for a little while longer (and we’re enjoying every single moment of it) our restless thoughts are moving further, already, traveling to places beyond your imagination (*spoiler warning*). Physically, captured in the Here and Now (no direct reference to 'Beyond the Red Mirror' intended here), our minds are already heading westward and into the future. More...

Last week we revealed that Blind Guardian would be appearing (both musically and as in-game characters) in the upcoming PC / console RPG "The Dwarves."
Now developer King Art has released a 10 minute first impression video of pre-alpha gameplay. Check out what the game will look and play like in the YouTube clip below. The game still has three days left in its Kickstarter campaign - join in on the action before release at this location. More...
The Dwarves are tough - made from stone by their god Vraccas, they are rough warriors and skilled craftsmen. The love for all kinds of metal is in their blood and there is only one genre of music that can truly compliment the thunder of their sledgehammers and the clash of their battle axes: METAL!
Developer King Art is very pleased to announce today that a cooperation with Blind Guardian has been confirmed. Not only will musicians from Blind Guardian perform parts of The Dwarves OST in their own unique style but there will also be a special quest involving Blind Guardian in the game.
To perfectly blend that into the fantasy-world of Girdlegard, the developers from King Art and Blind Guardian are cooperating closely with the author of The Dwarves book series.
A newly released video shows the game developers visiting Blind Guardian’s studio, where members of the band are playing The Dwarves for the very first time. Check it out below.

Can 21st-century metalheads ever be truly happy if they’re not bitching about something on the web?
The pointless arguments over bands’ music, which mostly boil down to matters of taste, are exhausting enough. And there’s a simple solution to dissatisfaction with a particular tour package: stay home and masturbate.
But complaining about festival lineups? Really?
I have some news for you, sport: the only Perfect Metal Festival Lineup, which exists only in an individual’s imagination, attracts an audience of one. Your Perfect Lineup is different from mine.
There needs to be a common denominator, a compromise. I don’t know about you, but when I’m not basking in my serene, elite metal knowledge via trve and righteous, smarmy and self-congratulatory screeds on Facebook, I actually enjoy watching a live show in the company of others. And in reaching the compromise to make that social event possible, everyone’s Perfect Lineup inevitably becomes less than perfect. Such is the transition from fantasy to reality.
In the process, like small children finally realizing that vegetables aren’t going to kill them, we learn that the reality is almost always better than the fantasy (discounting the fact that the latter doesn’t exist). MTV’s Butt-Head once mused on this very issue: “If nothing sucked, and everything was, like, cool all the time… how would you KNOW it was cool?”
At a several-day festival with dozens of bands on multiple stages, we NEED at least a handful of acts we know we can ignore. Otherwise, think of the immense pressure to be constantly on our feet, rushing back and forth, watching every equally important band with rapt attention. Even if possible, it would be simply overwhelming. We’d pass out from exhaustion and forget to enjoy ourselves. Plus, the truly special acts wouldn’t seem as special.
Last summer at Tuska Open Air in Helsinki, rather than bitch about the injustice of Bring Me The Horizon directly preceding Anthrax, I was grateful for the chance to relax and have a beer before catching a show by one of the Big Four. More...
Blind Guardian is streaming the full new album "Beyond The Red Mirror" which was released on January 30th (Europe), February 2nd (UK) and February 3, 2015 (North America) via Nuclear Blast Records.
Check out the entire new album below.
Today Blind Guardian released tenth studio album "Beyond The Red Mirror" (reviewed here) and the band also announces the release of a custom brand of wine, Red Mirror Merlot.
Originated in the Spanish growing area Aragon (where wine has been cultivated for more than 2000 years now), the wine has a total of 14% of alcohol and according the vocalist Hansi Kürsch, it fits the new album perfectly:
“The wine is just as playful and fresh and has the same depth. We are all passionate red-wine drinkers and the Red Mirror Merlot has a fantastic taste.”
In the course of his career he has played over 4,000 shows and recorded over 60 albums and worked together with musicians like Adrian Vandenberg (Whitesnake), Zakk Wylde, and Atma Anur (Journey). In 2004 he was voted as best metal and all around bass player by Guitar Player magazine.
His name is Barend Courbois, and he is the new bass player of Blind Guardian – out on January 30th (Europe) and February 3rd (North America), fans will be able to enjoy his skills on the upcoming album "Beyond The Red Mirror" (reviewed here).
“This was the longest production I have ever been involved in,” the Dutch musician explains. “As we all know, the recordings took a total of two years. The music is so versatile, which is just what makes the style of Blind Guardian so unique.”
Regarding his own style, Courbois is quite confident: “I play in a very powerful, but also melodic way,” he explains. “You could compare me to John Deacon. Something that Queen-fans Hansi Kürsch and Gitarrist André Olbrich really like.” More...
Blind Guardian just released the sixth new album trailer for upcoming tenth studio release, "Beyond The Red Mirror" (reviewed here), due out in Europe on January 30th, February 2nd in the UK, and February 3rd in North America.
In this new episode Blind Guardian discuss the difference between working in the rehearsal room, the studio. and performing live on stage:
Commented guitarist Marcus Siepen: “After being in the studio we need to relearn, or rearrange everything for a live performance. We have to consider exactly which parts to play and how to share them. Is André also playing rhythm guitars or am I supposed to accompany him on lead guitars, stuff like that.”
Adds drummer Frederik Ehmke: “Live is always different from the studio. In the studio we can capture a perfect drum sound and it is all about tiny details. Live everything needs to fit together perfectly so that the overall sound of the band is good.” More...
