In a recent discussion with Alternative Music Hub Gojira drummer Mario Duplantier had the following to say about the band's forthcoming new studio album.
"We have a title but we can’t reveal it yet. The title will be surprising. We need to decide on the songs. At the moment we have 14 or 15 songs recorded but personally I would love to have all the songs on the album. I think we are keeping two songs as bonus tracks or something special. The album is simpler; there is more space and atmosphere which makes it massive. I think we created something big, catchy, kept the violence but we are more subtle this time."
The album is currently planned for a late 2012 release through the band's new label home Roadrunner Records.

MetalSucks' Axl Rosenberg recently visited Gojira's Joe Duplantier (guitars/vocals) and Mario Duplantier (drums) at Spin Recording Studios in Long Island City, where the band is hard at work recording its Roadrunner debut. The Brothers Duplantier discussed their new album, signing with Roadrunner, working with producer Josh Wilbur, the long-delayed "Sea Shepherd" EP, and more. Excerpts from the chat follow:
MS: Can you tell me anything about the actual music on the new album? How is it different from other Gojira albums? Did you have a vision for it going into the process?
Joe Duplantier: It's more mature.
MS: How so?
JD: There's less bullshit. [laughs] There's more intensity and simplicity at the same time. Drum-wise, for example, Mario has been serving the music, but with a lot more of his experience in the drumming, and a lot of reflection in the work. His drum fills, for example, are be simpler, yet more technical. For a real drummer to hear [what he's doing], they'll go "Holy shit, man. What did you do?" For someone who is not into drumming, they'll go through the song and say "Wow, cool." There's more technique and more experience.
Mario Duplantier: It's more ambitious. There's a space in the songs. [hums a riff] It's more... [looks to Joe]
JD: It's hard to talk about it, really.
MS: Going into it, did you say we want to make something more open and more ambitious, or is that just how it turned out in the songwriting process? More...

Gojira guitarist and vocalist Joe Duplantier recently offered the following comments in regards to the band's forthcoming new full length album, which is currently expected for a November release date:
"It’s Gojira but wiser and heavier. Our music is always evolving. I hope there is more to come from us! I believe we can get heavier and deeper and more magical than before. I respect everything that’s been done before, but I hope we’re digging in another direction. It’s not a technical direction. It’s a more spiritual direction. I think we’re getting closer to the core of why we’re doing this music. It’s hard to describe it. Until I hear the new album it’s hard to have a clear vision of it. Fuck it, it’s just better!"

"We are currently working on a live DVD with important bonus section: The Way Of All Flesh From The Inside, the Sea Shepherd EP, (a non profit operation with a lot of people involved is a bit complicated to wrap, but we're getting there and we promise to release these songs soon).
"We're also composing a new album! We've written pretty much half of it, and we are very excited by this new material. It's a big step for us. These songs are original and a good reflection of what we are today.
"We are so focused on these things, that sometimes we forget to communicate with you guys, but we'll try to post more updates from now on. Big thanks to all of you for your patience and support. Cheers from the practice room!"
