The announcement follows Gojira’s recent Grammy nominations for Best Metal Performance with the "Silvera" track and Best Rock Album for "Magma" at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards.
Furthermore, Gojira was recently announced as support for Metallica on a string of North American dates, joining the WorldWired tour along with Avenged Sevenfold on July 29th at Los Angeles, CA’s Rose Bowl and continuing on the road through August 16th.
Additionaly, this coming spring Gojira is set to embark on a string of U.S. dates with Opeth that will kick-off May 4th at Nashville, Tennessee’s War Memorial Auditorium and will also see Gojira performing festival sets at Monster Energy’s Carolina Rebellion (May 5th) and Rock On The Range (May 19th-21st). Just a week before the seventh installment of 70,000 Tons of Metal shoves off from Port Everglades, Florida bound for Labadee, Haiti - UMC promoter Andy announced that Gojira and Nile were forced from the roster. This brings the total bands to 57, with one and two replacement acts left to be revealed.
The announcement reads: "Sailors! This is your Skipper speaking. Unfortunately, I have some bad news to share with you.
"Gojira will not be joining us on board next week. This is due to a serious medical issue of a very close family member that requires them to get back home at a moment's notice should the situation get worse. This is possible while they are on tour in their home country, but not while they are on a ship at Sea at the other end of the world. I am sure I speak for all of us when I send this message to France: Nous souhaitons de tout cœur beaucoup de force et de confiance, ainsi qu'un bon rétablissement!
"If that was not enough bad news, there's more. We will also be sailing without Nile. The situation there is that their new bass player will not receive his visa in time for the cruise. Normally he would not need one if they would only play the cruise, but since they are also going on tour in the US right afterwards he unfortunately needs a US work visa. Together with their management I tried to move heaven and earth to make this happen but at this point we are simply out of time.
"Trust me that I am as frustrated as all of you about this situation. I am working around the clock to fill this gap it has created in our line-up.
"I will make sure that we have adequate replacements on board 70,000 Tons of Metal, The Original, The World's Biggest Heavy Metal Cruise. Stay tuned!"
In exactly 9 days 3000 metal fans will be on board the 2017 edition of 70000 Tons Of Metal Cruise.
4 Days, 60 Bands, 1 Cruise Ship and only 3000 Tickets – Round 7 of The Original, The World’s Biggest Heavy Metal Cruise will sail February 2-6 from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to Labadee, Haiti on board the "Independence Of The Seas".

Nail The Mix returns in December for Gojira's sledgehammer heavy classic "Toxic Garbage Island" with The Way Of All Flesh producer Logan Mader at the helm. Mader and NTM are handing the reins over to Nail The Mix subscribers to re-mix the entire track yourself.
When you hear a Gojira song, there's no questioning who's distinct sound is blasting through the speakers. With that said, are you ready to prove you've got the chops to make this mix your own?
Nail The Mix's Eyal Levi states,"When 'The Way Of All Flesh' by Gojira came out, it was one of those WTF moments in terms of power, energy, aggression, punch and power in a Metal mix. I know that for myself and many of my peers, tracks off that album became some of our go-to reference mixes for what metal should sound like, to this day! To actually have Logan Mader walking us through how he mixed it, along with getting to work with the actual tracks by one of my favorite Metal bands of all time is not only a professional milestone for Nail The Mix, but a personal one as a fan of music." It's Grammy Award nomination time again, which is always an odd experience for metal fans. There's only one actual metal category - Best Metal Performance - and no category for actual metal albums to win.
Best Rock Album occasionally has heavy metal releases, but usually only of the most well known bands that aren't representative of the best metal had to offer in any given year.
In a move that literally left the audience scratching their heads, earlier this year Ghost took home the Best Metal Performance for the 2016 Grammy Awards.
Today the nominees are announced for the upcoming 59th annual 2017 Grammy Awards. These songs are now in the running for Best Metal Performance:
- "Shock Me" by Baroness
- "Silvera" by Gojira
- "Rotting In Vain" by Korn
- "Dystopia" by Megadeth
- "The Price Is Wrong" by Periphery
Alright, it's prediction time: who do you think is going to win the 2017 Grammy Best Metal Performance?
Gojira's "Magma" album also managed to land in the Best Rock Album category alongside the likes of Blink-192, Weezer, and Panic! At The Disco.
Roadrunner Records’ group Gojira just garnered its first-ever Grammy nominations, earning nods for Best Metal Performance for the song “Silvera” and Best Rock Album for acclaimed new LP "Magma" at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards.
The band commented on the momentous occasion: “We are honored and excited to receive our first Grammy nominations for ‘Best Metal Performance’ and ‘Best Rock Album’ of 2016. We want to thank the Gojira fans around the world who have continued to help us achieve many firsts with 'Magma.' We couldn't be more proud and grateful.”
Earlier this year Gojira’s "Magma" took the #1 spot on Billboard’s Hard Rock Albums chart marking the first time a French band held the #1 spot on the chart in its nine year existence. More...

I knew going into Saturday that it'd be in the most incongruous day of the festival since Disturbed were supported on their own tour by a number of hard rock acts which made the overall festival feel a bit disjointed. The heaviest acts on the tour were playing on the second stage while the radio rock acts tackled the main stage. The best way to describe it would be ADHD comorbid with DID.
One of the best parts of Chicago Open Air is that it's actually a place where I could wear arctic camo shorts and not look get weird looks from people. Granted, there are probably some other places. For instance, if I was ever tempted to go hunting in the jungles of Alaska or the frozen tundra of Florida, I'd break them out again. But for the most part, I was never going to wear them anywhere else. More...
Roadrunner Records’ act Gojira have debuted the official music video for "Low Lands."
Taken from the acclaimed chart topping new album "Magma," "Low Lands" can be viewed in the player below. The captivating video – directed by band members Joe and Mario Duplantier’s cousin, Alain Duplantier – was shot at the brothers’ family home in Ondres, France.
Joe Duplantier commented on the new visual stating, “It is an intimate and poetic piece directed by our dear cousin and friend Alain Duplantier. One of the ‘characters’ featured in this film is ‘Gayeres’ the family house where Mario and I grew up. We jammed to our first songs, started Gojira, and recorded most of our albums there. Our sister Gabrielle also contributed to the making of this video. We want to thank all the wonderful people who worked hard to make this happen and all our fans for supporting us with so much passion and respect. We hope you'll enjoy the trip as much as we do.”
