New Jersey progressive metallers SYMPHONY X, who are working on their new album, Paradise Lost, have had their website updated with the following update from their webmaster:

"Spoke to both MJR (Michael James Romeo, guitar) and Russ (Allen, singer) for a while today, and things are moving right along! MJR is finishing up a few solos and tightening up some of the orchestral/choral parts, and the CD will be sent off to be mixed in early March.

Jens Bogren (Fascination Street Studios) will be doing the honors, and the mixing should be done by the end of March. A potential release date as well as other info like the tracklisting and such will be available once the CD is mixed, so stay tuned for more info on that.

That's it for now, more info as it becomes available!"

Gigantour CD Audio Samples Available

Audio samples from the upcoming Gigantour deluxe 2-CD set have been made available at Amazon.com. The 2-CD and 2-DVD sets, due on August 22 and September 5, respectively, via Image Entertainment, capture 2005's heavy metal onslaught that was hailed as the best metal bill of the year, with Revolver magazine calling it "the mother of all shred fests." Organized by MEGADETH frontman Dave Mustaine as a tour featuring "only bands whose musicianship matches their ability to melt faces with sheer volume and power" (Miami Herald), "Gigantour" features unforgettable performances by MEGADETH, DREAM THEATER and FEAR FACTORY as well as ANTHRAX (CD only), NEVERMORE, LIFE OF AGONY, SYMPHONY X, DRY KILL LOGIC and BOBAFLEX.

The "Gigantour" DVD set encompasses a special bonus disc with all the no-holds-barred offstage action: tour bus visits, backstage drama, practical jokes plus interviews with the people who make a national package tour happen, like tour managers, pyrotechnics experts and band members. The "Gigantour" CD contains three songs not included on the DVD. More...

Symphony X Bassist is Released From Hospital

Bassist Michael LePond of the progressive metal band SYMPHONY X — who were recently forced to cancel a couple of European festival appearances after LePond was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease (an inflammatory bowel disorder) — has posted the following message on the band's official web site:

"I want you all to know that I had my surgery and have been released from the hospital. I am feeling so much better now. I am eating normally and getting stronger with each passing day. I should be fully recovered in about three weeks. I want to thank all of the fans who sent get well wishes to me. I will read every single one of them. I will never forget how kind and caring you are. I love you all."

Symphony X Bassist Diagnosed With Crohn's Disease

Progressive metallers SYMPHONY X have been forced to cancel their previously announced European festival appearances in June (Lorca Rock in Spain and Sweden Rock) due to "severe illness."

Commented SYMPHONY X bassist Michael LePond: "I have been diagnosed with Crohn's Disease (an inflammatory bowel disorder). This has caused an obstruction in my small intestine, making it impossible to digest solid foods. Currently, I am hospitalized where they can feed me through an I.V. unit supplemented with a liquid diet.

"But, there is some good news. The doctors tell me that with a surgical procedure, they will have me back to 100 percent in about six weeks, and although it is a chronic disease, this procedure will make it much easier to control its effects in the future.

"I want to thank the band, the crew, the fans and everyone else involved for your understanding and support during this tough time. You will all make my healing process much easier and I'll be back on the bass in no time."

All "get well" wishes for Mike can be sent to getwellmike@symphonyx.com. The messages will be printed out and sent to him until he's able to access the mailbox himself.

Report

Gigantour Report from Huntington, WV

After parking at the pay lot across the street we approach the Big Sandy Super Arena located on 3rd avenue of Huntington, West Virginia. The venue is lovingly referred to as the “civic center” by the locals. On the bricked walk way in front of the doors is a van, not any van but a van fully painted in the cover art of the new Bobaflex album, Apologize for Nothing. Impressive, flashy and showboating, but impressive none the less. This is home state for the band, so why not show off a little. We snap a couple of pictures of the van and we’re off to the window to grab our tickets. I give the lady my name and who I’m on the list for, Bobaflex. She finds the envelope; she slides the package through the slot in the glass. I open the package, as promised my photo pass. Off to a good start to a good night. More...
