The album’s cover art was created by esteemed fashion photographer Andrew Dunbar who’s work will be seen throughout the series
Says singer/keyboardist Rowan London about ‘Requiem - Fortissimo,’ “I should feel a sense of dread offering up something so atypical for us to be interrogated and scrutinized. But the fearlessness that we inhabited while writing Fortissimo and the Requiem series survives to see its unveiling. An album not so much about death as the absence of life; it’s damn heavy but its countenance is far more brutal than its sound could ever be. Long live the ‘death choir.’” More...

Australia's symphonic/gothic/classical act VIRGIN BLACK will tour North America in June and July this year.
Commented VIRGIN BLACK singer/songwriter Rowan London, "It's been four years since our minor but magnificent U.S. tour with AGALLOCH and ANTIMATTER and it seems it's long overdue for VIRGIN BLACK to return. This time we shall not be so stingy with dates and will visit the US, Canada and Mexico. Beginning with shows in Canada and the U.S. Northeast in mid-June, we'll then play three shows in Mexico before the band joins up with Finland's TO/DIE/FOR on June 26th and subsequently visit many a locale."

After an almost three year absence, Virgin Black will begin an international touring schedule at home in Australia as guests on the highly anticipated and exclusive Arcturus tour in late March. The dates will coincide with the release of "Requiem - mezzo forte", the centre piece of the band's 3-album requiem mass.
Tues. 27th March - H.Q. Adelaide, S.A.
Thur. 29th March - Club Phoenix, Brisbane, QLD
Sat. 31st March - The Evelyn, Melbourne, VIC
Virgin Black will proudly utilise the talents of Mark Kelson (The Eternal) as session guitarist alongside Samantha Escarbe.
Australia's Virgin Black will be releasing three albums simultaneously. Each CD is a separate entity, but each is also linked through recurring musical themes and artistic motifs. When fully unfurled in all its grandeur, listeners will experience a grandiloquent two-and-a-half hour requiem mass with three stages of evolution.
The three album descriptions:
"Requiem - pianissimo" is an entirely classical album with instrumentation performed by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, and featuring spectacular choral arrangements along with tenor, mezzo-soprano and soprano solo voices. "Requiem - pianissimo" forsakes guitars and drums in favour of the melancholic tragedy and bombastic dynamics of classical composition.
"Requiem - mezzo forte" is where the band joins the orchestra and strikes a balance more reminiscent of previous Virgin Black outings, albeit, with greater epic breadth.
"Requiem - fortissimo" unleashes a sound infinitely heavier than anything in Virgin Black's history. While still retaining an air of classical sensibility, it concludes the series with an intense dose of death/doom.
Australia's dark-metal-hybrid act Virgin Black are hard at work on new material which will serve as the follow-up to the well-received 2003 offering, "Elegant...and dying". Here is the latest news update from ‘down under’:
“Virgin Black are set to amaze us yet again with the promise of an extraordinary next release. The largest piece of the puzzle to be unearthed thus far is the revelation that they have just finished recording with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, featuring principal violinist Michael Milton and conducted by the A.S.O.'s Bruce Stewart. The sessions were recorded in the lush environment of Adelaide's Grainger Studios with composers Samantha Escarbe and Rowan London said to be overwhelmed by the experience of having ‘notes that were paper-bound, leaping off the page.’ Word is that it should see the light of ! day early next year.”
Virgin Black's lead guitarist, Samantha Escarbe, has issued the following update:
I realise there has been a period of silence. For those of you who have lovingly complained, thank you for the promptings as we have been living a schedule which assures that time slips past all too easily.
We are still deeply entrenched in the whole process of recording. Due to the complexity of the next release, it does not embody the standard formula (ie. write all the material, record all the material, mix etc). The requirements are different, hence the process has been very different and indeed very challenging. I can tell you that it will involve more musicians than any previous recording and that it is a piece which deeply rouses my emotions. For those of you who yearn to overindulge, I promise a delectable banquet.
Admittedly it is taking longer than originally anticipated, but we're doing our best to keep as close to the schedule as possible.
Virgin Black guitarist Samantha Escarbe has issued the following message:
Hello everyone, I'm amazed how rapidly this year has advanced, particularly as it equates to a new recording. It's been a gruelling year; the writing process has been very demanding. I know Rowan and I have faced our greatest challenge as writers. A week from now we will be entering the studio to begin the first part of the recording process. I look forward to sharing more with you as time goes by.
Keep us in your thoughts. The next album is partly dedicated to Narelle Carr. Murdered at the tender age of 26. 11/01/04 R.I.P. Love to you all.
