Thrashback Thursday: Fast As A Shark

In these times of trouble, with political and economic strife at home and abroad, human rights abuses and shows like Ex On The Beach, life can get you down pretty easily. Thursday has usually never been much of a day to look forward to, unless there's a decent sports game on, so we've decided to bring back one of our old columns to get your Thursdays off to a decent start. Every Thursday we'll be looking back on a metal song that's either a classic, a hidden gem or one which will make you say, "Oh! I haven't heard that in years!" Despite the title, it won't always be a thrash metal song, but it will be undisputed metal.

We kick off this reactivated retrospect with a look at one of Germany's all time greatest heavy metal bands, Accept. The band from the town of Solingen in the north of the Bergisches Land have a catalogue of awesome heavy metal staples and picking one is a hard choice, but "Fast As A Shark" has edged its way above many of the other anthems Accept have penned. The opening track from the group's 1982 album, "Restless and Wild" has been featured in a number of video games such as the metal themed adventure Brutal Legend and several films, including being played over one of the most awesome scenes in film history, towards the end of the Italian horror favourite, "Demons," wherein the main character rides a motorcycle through a cinema, decapitating creatures with a samurai sword, all to the sound of this metal masterpiece. Accept Reveals Cover Art For "The Rise Of Chaos"

Heavy metal pioneers Accept are back in the game with a new studio album! The record entitled "The Rise Of Chaos" will be unleashed on August 4th. The band's 4th studio release through Nuclear Blast will continue the tradition of its three predecessors - "Blood Of The Nations," "Stalingrad" and "Blind Rage" - with grandeur and precision.

Today, the band has unveiled the cover artwork of the new record, which was created by the Hungarian artist Gyula Havancsák. Check it out below.

"'The Rise of Chaos' is something I have often been thinking about. Wherever we go - there is some hidden as well as some visible destruction, and it kind of changes the world we know and understand. What was there today can be gone tomorrow and it’s somehow irritating, because it occurs across so many levels and no one knows what comes next. The cover is our last live stage set-up - a world now clearly 'destroyed' - like after a catastrophe", explains Wolf Hoffmann.

And if this wasn't enough, Accept will celebrate the album's live premiere exclusively on August 3rd, on the day before its release, as a part of a special show at Wacken Open Air, Germany. The set will consist of three parts, which represent the band's creative power:

Part 1 will bring fans a classic ACCEPT set, packed with new and old hits.

Part 2 will present another premiere: Wolf Hoffmann will be playing tracks from his solo album 'Headbangers Symphony', released in 2016, with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra for the very first time. On this record, Wolf has covered famous opuses by composers such as Beethoven, Vivaldi, and Mozart, in a metal guise.

And in Part 3, all elements can be seen and heard together: Accept will make the holy Wacken ground shake by sharing the stage with the orchestra, supported by a complex multimedia show.

This unique concert experience will take place on this year's 'Night To Remember' which makes it even more special. The 'Night To Remember' is a celebrated, long-lasting Wacken tradition; for one night of the festival a selection of established bands will do something unique and special with a performance. When we do headline shows we have a little more room to play with and we can pick a few more songs.

"What is interesting to me is, that when you listen to the stuff back to back there doesn't seem to be any discrepancy between the stuff that we recorded or wrote 30 years ago and our more recent material! And the fans tell me the same thing, it really blends together rather well." More...

Wolf Hoffmann Releasing New Album

Accept’s guitar powerhouse Wolf Hoffmann is getting ready to release his 2nd solo album entitled "Headbangers Symphony."

New full-length album "Headbangers Symphony" will be released on July 1st, 2016 by Nuclear Blast. The label comments:

"Wolf Hoffmann has a passion. His life-long love and dedication to heavy metal music is documented in dozens of albums spanning four decades with his long time heavy metal band Accept. But beyond heavy metal, Wolf has an incessant craving for the classics, yes, the ones written decades and centuries ago.

"Classical music has always been an influence - albeit limited - on Accept's Teutonic approach to rock and heavy metal. However, it wasn't until 1997 during an extended hiatus from Accept, that Wolf Hoffmann finally had the chance to fully explore and fulfil this interest by recording his first astounding solo album ‘Classical’, a record filled with his rock guitar driven interpretations of some of classical music’s most loved compositions."

Hoffmann comments: "I have always incorporated classical music in my song writing with Accept, especially with ‘Metal Heart,’ but I constantly felt there was so much more that I could do and I did not want to overload Accept or force it in any way. I always knew I could make a whole record of it and that’s how the first record ‘Classical’ was born. Even today, fans tell me that they are still listening to it, that's why it is so fantastic now to do another one." More...

Accept Crowd Surfs... A Museum?

Original founding members of German heavy metal band Accept, Peter Baltes and Wolf Hoffmann, made their first stage dive and crowd surfing in their lifetime on July 18th. Where did it happen? Well, as unexpected as it can get - at the Holcim Werkforum und Fossilienmuseum. Nuclear Blast had this to say about the event:

"Sometimes, it seems, is just to accept your fate and realize that it is never too late for anything. Keeping an open mind can put you into unexpected situations, which allows also for history to be written. This is exactly what happened to Baltes and Hoffmann a few days ago when they paid a visit to the exhibition Rock Fossils at the Werkforum in Dotternhausen, southern Germany.

"The exhibition is an interesting amalgamation of fossils and music featuring sculptures of extinct creatures named after heavy metal, punk and rock icons. This travelling exhibition was the brainchild of palaeontologist Jesper Milàn from Geomuseum Faxe in Denmark, modelmaker Esben Horn from 10Tons Aps and Rune Fjord Studio.

"The exhibition opened for the first time in 2013 at Geomuseum Faxe (Denmark) where King Diamond turned up and revealed the model of the 400 million years old worm named in his honour, 'Kingnites diamond.' After Faxe, the exhibition traveled to the Natural History Museum in Oslo (Norway), the Natural History Museum in Bern (Switzerland), before it ended up in Dotternhausen with the grand opening ceremonies taking place on July 18th.
