New York death metal group Immolation will release new album "Atonement" on February 24th via Nuclear Blast Records. Today, the band has released a third video trailer for "Atonement,? in which guitarist Robert Vigna discusses how he writes and prepares songs for the recording studio.
Immolation also graces the cover of the March issue of Decibel Magazine. Editor and chief Albert Mudrian recently offered a few thoughts on the honor:
"...in 2002, Immolation were already royalty to death metal fans, but by then, scene veterans who had stayed true to the genre’s dark and brutal path were in short supply. And the majority of them who remained committed were selling fewer records and performing to considerably smaller crowds than they had a decade prior.
"Fourteen years and four fantastic albums into their career, Dolan and Vigna could have easily packed it in, unwittingly positioning themselves for a fat reunion paycheck when the death metal nostalgia bug bit hard at the end of the aughts. Instead, they began doing what nearly every other other old-school death metal band failed to accomplish—they started releasing the best music of their career.
"Beginning with the towering 'Unholy Cult,' they recorded a string of modern classics further deepening their underground legacy, while slowly weaving like one of Vigna’s serpentine riffs into extreme metal’s vanguard. Decibel is only too happy to help bring their shadows into the light." More...

Available in early 2017, these LP re-issues are the best editions yet, with a new master for vinyl by Patrick W. "These three releases were a crucial part of Immolation's musical journey, and they really helped solidify our sound and musical direction for years to come. Each one of these releases was extremely unique for the time and our fans still really seem to love what we have created with each of these three albums. More...

Death should be credited with creating death metal, at least the old school style we recognize now, as they birthed the infamous Tampa, Florida sound. Bands such as Autopsy and Obituary—two of the forerunners—would not exist without Death. Death is not the true father of death metal, though. That distinction goes to Possessed. The California Bay Area group not only played a style of brutal, vicious metal, with loads of Satanic imagery, they also coined the term “death metal” on the “Seven Churches” album.
Around 1985, albums similar to “Slowly We Rot” (Obituary) and “Mental Funeral” (Autopsy) simply did not exist. Thrash was the fasted, craziest music around. Of course Possessed has already been mentioned, but the influence of Slayer, who obviously influenced Possessed, can not be under recognized. Where Possessed was different was they used a rougher production. Dark Angel, whose drummer, Gene Hoglan, would go on to be one of the most heralded drummers in the metal biz, certainly showed a good dose of Slayer in their sound. In the beginning, Slayer was nothing more than a faster, nefarious, more solo-oriented Venom protégé. More...

"Noisem - Baltimore's Noisem will blast their vicious tunes in such a destructive velocity, it will feel like someone's shredding your fucking face with a cheesegrater. Formerly known as Necropsy, this young band's playing abrasive death metal at a lightning speed, destroying everything in its path. Be apart of the bestial birth of Noisem at OEF!!!
"Homewrecker - Things are going to get ugly at OEF America as Ohio's Homewrecker are back in Montreal with their grinding hardcore harmonies. They will show no mercy as they pummel your face with heavy as hell guitar riffs, punishing vocals & blistering fast drums!"

Italy's Cripple Bastards has been confirmed for the upcoming Obscene Extreme Festival. The following press release was also issued about the appearance:
"You could say this is a 'grindcore hat-trick' as it is the third OEF appearance in 2014 for Italian hate mob Cripple Bastards after headlining the insane Obscene Extreme Asia in Tokyo and Obscene Extreme Australia in Melbourne earlier this year. But if you really want to see the Bastards play at home, then Obscene Extreme Trutnov is the grounds for the final massacre. They have been blasting the shit on stage since the festival's birth back in 1999 and raised the most infernal stage diving pits for countless times through the years that followed.
"26 years after their conception Cripple Bastards still hold the banner high as Italy's most hostile and aggressive grind/hardcore unit around. With one foot firmly in the past and all the vicious savagery of manic fast 80's hardcore extremity, Cripple Bastards are also charging forwards. With bloodshot eyes and a rabid 'get out and bite them' attitude, this band are ready to introduce their brand new 2014 full length 'Nero In Metastasi' on Relapse Records and they will consolidate their ongoing mission of bringing nihilistic, fuck-you-all, grinding hatred to every corner of an underserving mankind. Cripple Bastards will also be introducing for the first time ever on Trutnov's Battlefield their 5 piece line-up with new axeman Wild Vitto on second guitar which will only enhance their wall of hate/grind fury!"
In a new video clip available online, Immolation's Ross Dolan speaks about his role in Gospel of the Witches, the new project fronted by vocalist and visual artist Karyn Crisis (Ephel Duath). Check it out below.
Gospel of the Witches features the pairing of Crisis' and Dolan's voices in what Crisis terms a "death choir."
She has stated, "As a testament to Ancient Ways and the union of opposites, I explore the feminine power in my voice on this album and couple it with Ross' intensely masculine vocal power to create a consistent theme of thickly layered vocal choruses."
Dolan describes the project as "dark, haunting, very creepy, very cool stuff... something big and epic and multi-layered."
Gospel of the Witches' lineup is completed by Ephel Duath mastermind Davide Tiso on guitar and bass, and Intronaut's Danny Walker on drums.
The recording of the 13-song debut album begins in June with producer Jamie King (Between the Buried and Me) at The Basement Recording NC. The album will also contain a guest appearance by Mike Hill, frontman of Tombs. You can take part in the creation of the album by joining the crowd funding campaign right here. More...
