Morbid Angel Pulls Out Of Maryland Deathfest
The organisers of the Maryland Dearthfest event, which will take place from May 26th - 29th, has announced that a number of bands have pulled out of the festival for a variety of reasons. Most notable was death metal legends Morbid Angel, who appear to be concerned over safety amid the COVID-19 pandemic. A number of replacements have been found though and a statement from the organisers reads as follows:
"We're pleased to say that for the first time ever, Deicide will be performing the Legion album in its entirety at MDF 2022! They will be performing on Sunday, May 29th at Edison Lot.
"In other news, we need to report that the following bands have cancelled:
"Morbid Angel will no longer be performing at MDF 2022. Despite trying to convince them to not cancel, the only thing we've been told is that the band 'will not be playing MDF or any other shows in the current climate,' so we'll let you interpret that however you see fit.
"Archgoat and Valkyrja were due to tour together, but the tour fell apart, and despite attempts to salvage at least one of those bands playing only MDF, it just wasn't possible.
"Blaze Of Perdition have also cancelled due to their tour falling apart.
"Lastly, Antichrist have cancelled.
"Immolation will be replacing Valkyrja on Sunday at Edison Lot.
Profanatica will be replacing Archgoat on Sunday at Rams Head.
Akhlys will be replacing Blaze Of Perdition on Friday at Rams Head.
Sulfuric Cautery will be replacing Antichrist on Friday at Soundstage.
"As a reminder, ALL tickets for 2020 / 2021 are automatically valid for 2022. You don't need to take any action for these tickets to be valid."

Immolation Reveals New Album Details
New York death metal giants Immolation are proud to announce their latest immense creation, "Acts Of God," which will be released on February 18th 2022. The 11th studio album serves as the next chapter of Immolation’s death metal epic. With 5 long years passed since Atonement, "Acts Of God" vigorously showcases Immolation’s ability to consistently create fascinating sounds, while still keeping their feet firmly rooted in the old school, New York death metal for which they are renowned.
Today, the band offers fans the first single from the album, "Apostle." Produced, directed, and edited by the band's own Robert Vigna, the video can be viewed below.
Immolation vocalist/ bassist Ross Dolan comments:
"After 5 long years, we are very excited to finally announce the arrival of our 11th full-length album Acts of God on February 18th, 2022! This time around, we have 15 tracks of some of the darkest and most haunting Immolation material to date! For the first single, we chose the song 'Apostle' because it's a very dark song that offers the listener all the elements of the Immolation sound. It's a heavy and explosive track that ebbs and flows from start to finish, with dark and creepy soundscapes and extreme bursts of dark energy that will take the listener on a dark journey that is just a small glimpse of what the album has to offer. Enjoy!" More...

Ex Immolation & Goreaphobia Members Form New Band
Shadows is a new dark avant-garde metal band from Immolation and ex-Goreaphobia guitarist Alex Bouks, who brought other former Goreaphobia members to the table, including Henny Piotrowski (guitars) and Jake G (vocals). Alongside multi-instrumentalist Lance Walter, the US-based quartet has signed a record deal with Agonia Records, with plans to release their debut material in 2021.
As founding member of the Philadelphia death metal band Goreaphobia, Alex Bouks has been involved in the extreme underground music scene since the late 80’s. His technical style of aggressive, melodic guitar work has resulted in worldwide recognition being a member of such acclaimed acts as Immolation, Incantation, Master, Ruinous and Funebrarum.
Now Alex has returned to his musical roots in Shadows, with classic influences (feat. Pink Floyd, Celtic Frost, Sisters Of Mercy, Black Sabbath, Mercyful Fate and Voivod) and musicians he always felt chemistry with, including Henry Piotrkowski and Jake G of the split-up Philadelphia-based band Goreaphobia, and Lance Walter of another Philadelphia unit, Dominance. Their debut EP was produced at Rhawn Street Studios in the US and mastered by Tore Stjerna (Mayhem, Watain) at Necromorbus Studio in Sweden. It's expected to be released in 2021.
A statement from Alex Bouks explains more: "Shadows is a personal project that has lasted with myself and Henny Piotrowski for over thirty years. He is one of the first people I started playing music with and there has always been a magical chemistry that had never gone away. This year the universe spoke and said the truth shall be unveiled."
Lineup:
Alex Bouks - Lead guitar
Henny Piotrowski - guitar
Jake G - vocals
Lance Walter - drums, bass, lead guitar

Soulfly Premiere New Song "Evil Empowered"

Soulfly premiere a new song entitled "Evil Empowered", taken from their upcoming new album "Ritual". Lamb Of God frontman Randy Blythe and Immolation bassist/vocalist Ross Dolan are among the effort’s guests with the track listing and cover art (done by Eliran Kantor) available at the bottom of this post.
Speaking of the “Ritual“, the band’s mastermind, frontman/guitarist Max Cavalera commented:
“I am really stoked to be working again with two of my favorite artists, Eliran Kantor and Marcelo Vasco! The Ritual artwork is very mystic and captures the vibe of the album perfectly. For this one, we really tried to retain the groove of early Soulfly as well as my love for the heavy, fast stuff I’m into: like death and black metal and some hardcore.
Working with Josh Wilbur for Soulfly this time around has been amazing. He’s a huge fan and added a lot to the record. I would fight for the fast songs and he would always push me to add more groove. I think in the end we created a really cool mix of songs that covers a lot of ground in my career. Let the Ritual begin!”
Check out now "Evil Empowered" below.
