Hirax To Play Mexico In October
Underground metal champions HIRAX will tour Mexico beginning in Tijuana on October 14, followed by a highly anticipated East Coast tour in November.
"The fans in Mexico are unbelievably supportive," said vocalist Katon De Pena. "To them, heavy metal is religion. The East Coast has been supporting our music since the very first album came out in 1985. We are looking forward to hitting all of the cities and playing for the headbangers!! We did one-offs back East over the past two years to test the waters and all of the shows over there were very successful."
On August 26, HIRAX co-headlined the Minneapolis Mayhem III Festival, where they played a new song, titled "Lucifer's Inferno", which will be on their forthcoming record, "Assassins of War", to be released on Black Devil Records in early 2007. Ex-Hirax Guitarist Glenn Rogers Joins Once Dead
Glenn Rogers has announced that he has joined Once Dead which features the former members of Vengeance Rising. They are currently working on songs for their upcomming CD. The message on the band's official site reads:
"Glenn as most of you know was one of the original founding members of Vengeance, and had written many of the songs with us prior to Roger Martinez, Larry Farkas and Glen Mancaruso joining the group. Glenn left our group to join Deliverance, and then later joined Hirax."
"The addition of Glenn offers us an incredibly talented guitarist, an awesome song writer, as well as a longtime friend. We are very excited about Glenn joining us and we look forward to working with him on the upcoming album, but that will be on another thread."
Once Dead is working on their debut album and are in the process of writing the new material, recording demos, choosing a studio, producer etc. Once Dead are also booking shows for this coming summer. Contact them ASAP at dthieme@adelphia.net if you are interested in booking Once Dead.
Hirax Guitarist Comments On Departure
Blabbermouth.net reports that former HIRAX guitarist Glenn Rogers sent the following statement:
"It seems there is some confusion on who cancelled the HIRAX tour of Japan. So to set the record straight, here is the story:
"On Saturday, Nov. 19th I received a message from Katon W. Depena [HIRAX frontman]. The message said, and I quote, 'I'm cancelling the tour. It's nothing against Dave Watson [guitar] or you, but I can't work with the other guys [bassist Angelo Espino and drummer Dave Chedrick]. I'm not happy with them, and I need to spend some time away from the band.' Katon refused all phone calls and e-mails to try to work this out. He never contacted the promoter (Sub Effect Records) to let them know the tour was cancelled.
"Due to the fact that Katon would not communicate with his own band, we had to cancel our flight plans. As a result, we as a band felt we could not continue as members of HIRAX. We will however seek a new singer, and carry on."
HIRAX's most recent full-length CD, "New Age of Terror", was issued in May 2004 via Black Devil Records. A new six-song CD/DP, entitled "Assassins of War", was recently completed but has yet to receive an official release date.
