Metalunderground.com Official Podcast, Episode 30

Before we summarize this week’s MetalUnderground.com Official Podcast, your fabulous co-host Mike Smith (OverkillExposure), who rather enjoys referring to himself in the third person, is about to lazily copy and paste an important notice from last week… and the week before.

“We,” meaning Token Hispanic co-host Kevin Perez (n0thinghead), are hosting two upcoming ticket giveaways through Revolution Live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. First comes The Black Dahlia Murder (supported by Suicide Silence) on Monday, October 13th, followed by Attila (supported by Crown The Empire and Like Moths To Flames) on Friday, November 14th.

If interested, please fire an email to podcast@metalunderground.com with one (or both) of the headlining bands in the subject heading and your full name (matching your ID) in the message body.

Additionally, if you’re an unsigned metal band with a kickass song you’d like to hear featured as our weekly intro music, we’d like to hear it! Please contact us via the email address above.

Kicking off this week’s topics, Mike relays the recent announcement by Swedish death metallers Bloodbath regarding the upcoming fourth studio album “Grand Morbid Funeral,” due out November 17th on Peaceville Records. He also shares some thoughts concerning the group’s as-yet-unidentified new vocalist, so pay attention.

Next, it’s - put a sock in it - more Slipknot. Hey, activity in the Iowan legends’ camp is newsworthy, so we’re going to discuss it. This sour little tidbit revolves around the band’s revelation that percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan is designing two identical masks for the new rhythm section, deliberately distinct from the rest. Whether this bit of ritualistic “othering” is the start of a Newstedian hazing campaign is yet to be determined.

Bummed about the disappointing new In Flames album? So were we. Which is why this week we’re overjoyed to gush about “Exit Wounds,” the ripping, thrashing, and successful return to form by The Haunted, a Swedish band that’s done what most of us wish In Flames had. Stay tuned to hear our full thoughts; we hope you agree!

Tune in here, enjoy, and don’t forget to subscribe via iTunes or RSS feed.

The Haunted Checks In From The Studio

Swedish metal institution The Haunted is currently in the studio recording an 8th studio album with Tue Madsen as producer. Check out the latest happenings via a video message from guitarist Ola Englund below.

Due to the album's recent recording schedule postponement and a new tentative release later for in the summer via Century Media Records, The Haunted was unfortunately forced to move previously announced Scandinavian club-tour dates from spring to September/October instead.

Additionaly, The Haunted has also been confirmed to appear at European summer festivals like Les Metallurgicales (France), Getaway Rock (Sweden), Party.San (Germany), Vagos Open Air (Portugal) and also Summer Breeze Open Air (Germany). Dates are available after the jump.

The Haunted Enters The Studio

Sweden's The Haunted has started recording an 8th studio album at Antfarm Studio in Denmark with the revamped band line-up featuring founding members Jonas Björler (Bass) and Jensen (Guitars), returning members Adrian Erlandsson (Drums) and Marco Aro (Vocals), and the newest member Ola Englund (Guitars).

This currently untitled full-length will be produced by Tue Madsen, who has already worked with the band on previous releases. Check out a video message from drummer Adrian Erlandsson and guitarist Ola Englund from the studio below. The band also comments:

"Here you go, folks; picture proof of the cursed, grueling, back-breaking yet eventually immensely rewarding process of recording an album. How about Tue's use of an empty pool for that special reverb effect!? You can't buy that shit as a plug-in (Hey...Wait a minute...Maybe you can?). Anyway, recording might be hard, strenuous work, but it's always relaxing to have producer wizard, and great friend, R-Tue-D-Tue on board. We love both him and his studio dog Maud.

"The songs all sound great, and it seems that we're looking at the embryo to a pretty fast album. We're hoping you won't mind the velocity when you pop the CD into the player with your dirty little mitts.

"And yup, we've released the bands that'll open for us on our Scandinavian dates. Be sure to get there on time to check them out!" More...

Metalunderground.com Official Podcast, Episode 3

On the latest installment of Metalunderground.com's new official podcast, hosts Kevin Perez (n0thinghead) and Mike Smith (OverkillExposure) gear up for a season of new metal by discussing some early 2014 releases.

00:02:25: After years of experimentation with mixed results, Sweden's The Haunted teased old school fans with the thrashy, aggressive three-song EP "Eye Of The Storm" (reviewed here). The digital 7' is the product of a revamped lineup that sees former vocalist Marco Aro and former drummer Adrian Erlandsson rejoin the fold.

00:19:45: Next up is the new EP "Clear" from Bethesda, Maryland's Periphery. The popular "djent" standard bearers crept out on a limb with this effort: each song is a solo composition by separate band members, allowing each to explore his own songwriting style, which distills the band's influences and various elements as a centrifuge would separate blood cells. "Clear" may encounter a split fan reaction, but as Kevin will warn you, it's to be taken not as a change in direction, but as an experimental exercise of freedom.

00:39:04: We wrap up with a lively overview of Behemoth's long-awaited new studio album "The Satanist" (reviewed here), which is already proving to be one of 2014's most-discussed and highest acclaimed metal releases.

The Haunted Streaming "My Enemy"

Having just returned from the 70,000 Tons Of Metal cruise in the Caribbean, Sweden's The Haunted is now debuting another new song from the recently released 3-track single, "Eye Of The Storm" (reviewed here).

The single marks The Haunted's recording debut of the revamped line-up announced last summer, featuring founding members Jensen (Guitars) and Jonas Björler (Bass), returning members Marco Aro (Vocals) and Adrian Erlandsson (Drums), as well as new member Ola Englund (Guitars).

The "My Enemy" video clip (featuring rehearsal room footage) can be viewed below, courtesy of Bloody-Disgusting.com. The band also comments:

"After having found our feet as a band onstage at last week's 70,000 Tons Of Metal festival, it is now time to bring the mayhem home to Scandinavia. First show of the tour will hit Gothenburg (I mean, where else, right?) followed up by a string of shows in Sweden, Norway and Finland. The reception of the three new songs from our newly released EP 'Eye Of The Storm' at 70K was amazing, so expect them to be played, together with a truckload of other hard-hitters. We can't wait to get back out there playing shows again, and we'll make sure it has been worth your while sticking around for us through thick and thin. See you all somewhere along the road!"
