Background
This melodic death metal band, formed by former Carcass’ guitarist, Michael Amott, started out with Johan Liiva on vocals, but then replaced him with Angela Gossow. Though a female replaced him, the band still has the same death metal vocal style. Gossow, who has only been with the band on the past two albums, has been able to create a strong presence in the band.

Guitarist Michael Amott comments on the release as follows: “People are always asking us about Japan and the fans there… It is well known that Arch Enemy has been the most successful extreme metal band in the Japanese market for 10+ years, so we thought it’d be cool to show the Arch Enemy fans worldwide what it’s like when we tour there, this is your backstage pass to Arch Enemy, Nippon style! A lot of people felt that we raised the bar significantly with the quality of the ‘Live Apocalypse’ DVD – and I agree that was a great DVD, but I believe this monumental experience, that we are calling ‘Tyrants Of The Rising Sun’ filmed totally in high definition, - will leave you floored! With the metal world’s #1 producer Andy Sneap mixing the audio and the brilliant Paul Smith editing and directing the visuals, the results are impressive! And Niklas Sundin of Cabin Fever Media bringing in some of the best artwork I’ve ever seen from him - we have a new DVD that we are very proud to present to our fans!”
Following up the release date of the live-album, Arch Enemy have announced the final line-up for a string of European "December Tyranny" tour dates with Leaves' Eyes, Mercenary and Sister Sin. Dates are as follows:
Dec. 12 Uden, NL @ De Pul

Dec. 19 Bad Arolsen, D @ Outback
Arch Enemy’s vocalist, Angela Gossow, comments on the shows as follows: “This is a very diverse and exciting line-up we got together for these shows – A truly special run! Not only is this the first time in our history we tour with other female fronted bands, but we managed to cross over heavy metal, melodic metal, thrash/death metal and gothic metal in one billing. And Mercenary’s power metal version of ‘Burning Angel’ (you can find this on the new Century Media release ‘Covering 20 Years of Extremes) def. got stuck in my ears! Sister Sin is an upcoming, hard rocking act from Sweden… And Leaves Eyes will clearly be the ‘Beauty’ whilst Arch Enemy proudly represents the ‘Beast’! Be there when the revolution begins!”
In other news, Arch Enemy's cover of the Dream Evil classic "The Book Of Heavy Metal" is now posted at www.myspace.com/centurymediaeurope. The track comes off “Covering 20 Years Of Extremes,” Century Media’s 20th-anniversary compilation, which is available in stores now. It contains 32 mostly exclusive recordings where CM artists cover songs from other acts within the label’s repertoire.
Carcass Offers North American Tour Wrap-Up
Reformed melo-death/gore-grind legends CARCASS recently completed their first North American tour since first reanimating early this year. Guitarist Michael Amott (ARCH ENEMY) commented on what their recent touring experience was like:
"What a tour! So many sold-out shows and fantastic, bordering on fanatical response from the fans everywhere we went! I’d like to thank the fans in the US/CANADA/MEXICO for waiting patiently and remaining fans all these years – and for coming out in such big numbers on the tour.
"For me personally it’s been quite emotional playing THOSE songs with THOSE guys again – really cool and almost too much fun. Playing the festivals in Europe over the summer was amazing, but I have to admit that I prefer being on tour playing every night in clubs – that’s when you get tight as a band and become a solid unit.
"Highlights? Without lying I’d have say that every night was special, it was just that kind of tour for me – but the NYC show at the sold-out Nokia Theatre was exceptionally killer, and Ken Owen (ex-CARCASS drummer) flew out for that one so the vibe was just incredible! That was the kind of night when you wish that the cameras were rolling."
Regarding the other bands on the tour and the people behind the scenes who made it all happen the guitarist continued: More...

Arch Enemy To Re-Record Album Of Early Material
BW&BK writer Martin Popoff recently caught up with Michael Amott, who revealed current plans to re-record some early (pre-Angela Gossow) material for a new release as well as work on a new album. Here are some excerpts:
"We actually tracked drums already for a new record, which is… it's not a brand-new album in that sense, but we had another singer on the first three albums, before Angela joined. And we've basically taken 12 songs from that era of the band, from those three records, and we kind of redo those, with Angela and Sharlee, everybody, the current band. Daniel, for instance, didn't play drums on the second album. So it's just playing those songs the way we play them now and put them out next year. It's basically songs that we would like to start playing live again, you know, from the first three records. In Japan, those three records were big, but in the rest of the world nobody really knows about them. They didn't pick up in sales after we became gradually bigger with Angela in the band. Those first three records didn't get pulled along with that, because I guess people want to hear us how we are now, with Angela. But there are some great tunes there and we are redoing 12 of our favourites. So that's going to be coming out next year."
"And then slowly we are putting together music for the next record. But we toured really heavily on the last album, Rise Of The Tyrant, so we've been touring. So now this kind of came in so I haven't had much of a break. It's been the busiest couple of years I've ever had. And yeah, there are more people on the Toronto guest list than in our hometown. I guess we've been there too many times (laughs). But it's been good stuff. I love keeping busy. That's what we signed up for."
Arch Enemy to Perform At Doro's "25 Years in Rock"

ARCH ENEMY @ Doro's "25 Years in Rock" anniversary festival:
13.12.08 Saturday D, Düsseldorf ISS-DOME
The free Metal Market starts at 2pm. Show entry is at 4pm.
Arch Enemy vocalist Angela Gossow comments: "I am so excited to rock hard with the one and only Mrs. Doro Pesch! She is not only my teenage idol ('All We Are' from Warlock was about the only song I liked at school disco!) and basically my neighbour (Cologne – Duesseldorf is right next to each other) – But she is hands down one of the nicest, down-to-earth and most beautiful musicians I have met so far. I can hardly believe its her '25 Years In Rock' anniversary – She is still as youthful as ever! She's got the power for sure! You don't want to miss out on this extraordinary event and maybe seing me and Doro on a stage together! Make sure you get your tickets early!"
Angela Gossow is also featured on Doro Pesch's new single, "Celebrate," including other guest appearances by Liv Kristine (LEAVES' EYES), Veronica Freeman (BENEDICTUM), GIRLSCHOOL, Floor Jansen (AFTER FOREVER) and another one that was recorded with the help of Biff Byford (SAXON).
Century Media Celebrates 20th Anniversary
2008 has become an extremely exciting year in the history of Century Media Records, one of the world's most respected independent homes for heavy music, as the label is celebrating its 20th anniversary!
The company's Anniversary year started off with an extremely successful, first-ever yard sale/party at the Century Media office in Dortmund (Germany) in June, where several hundred guests partied out on exclusive live shows by Angel Dust and Turisas. A video with impressions from the event can be seen at this location. A photo gallery for this event can be viewed here.
To further celebrate this anniversary Century Media Records will release the very special 2CD compilation "Covering 20 Years Of Extremes" on September 15th in Europe and on October 14th in North America. The various artists covers-release includes 32 mostly exclusive recordings and will be available in stores for the price of one CD. Sticking to the "keep it in the family" slogan, CM approached their artists about covering songs from other acts within the label's repertoire and the response from the musicians was overwhelming.
Some choices were obvious and homages to the bands that influenced them, others were inspired picks. This combination ended up leading to a heavily entertaining and truly special final result across all sub-genres of heavy music.

Arch Enemy Guitarist Speaks On Current Metal Scene
Arch Enemy guitarist Michael Ammot recently spoke with Metal-Rules.com. During the interview he gave his own opinions on the current metal scene and acts such as Bullet For My Valentine and Nightwish:
Metal-Rules.com: How much have you been following the Metal scene yourself what's 'hot' or 'in' these days, what kinds of things the media and people in general talk about?
Michael Amott: "Hype is hype, isn't it? I like what I like. I don't really follow it that closely. But now everything's 'Metal.' you know, that band's Metal, this band's Metal, but it doesn't really sound like Metal at all, it doesn't have the atmosphere of extreme Metal. I think people are just calling everything Metal now, they think NIGHTWISH is Metal (laughs). I mean, they're a great band, but they're not a Metal band. They have influences from Metal, but they have a lot of other things going on as well. Everybody is different, but now everything is Metal. NIGHTWISH is a bad example. A band like BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, I wouldn't say is an out-and-out Metal band. I would say they have some influences from Metal, but I wouldn't say they're a Metal band. They have some stuff that's quite commercial, like pop orientated. I haven't heard their new album but I've seen stuff previously on MTV. I know here in Finland you have some bands that are kind of commercial but you could call them Metal. I don't think it's called Metal here, but when it's exported it is. I don't really know what Metal is anymore. To me, Metal is the stuff I grew up on. There's a certain kind of feeling I look for when I listen to Metal."
