Latest The Red Death News
Below is our complete The Red Death news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Note: We began associating news directly with bands in late 2003. Therefore, earlier band news may not be listed on this page.
Syracuse, New York band Freya, featuring Karl Buechner of Earth Crisis, has announced the addition of three new members to their band. Joining the group is Brendon Flynn (War Of Attrition) on guitar, John Sullivan (War Of Attrition) on guitar, and Graham Mitchell (ex-The Red Death) on drums.
Meanwhile, the group has debuted a new pre-production track, which can be heard here.
New York based metalcore act the Red Death has posted the following message online:
"So we're calling it a day and hanging up The Red Death. It's been a fun ride and our thanks go out to Metal Blade Records for giving us the first opportunity to bring our music to a larger audience, Siege Of Amida and Ferret Records for doing all the leg work on the release of Godmakers, the past members of this entity for their contributions, and everyone out there across the US that put us up, fed us drinks or joints, put on a show, put a tour together, or bought some merch. The past six years have been incredibly memorable.
"We're all onto different projects and pursuits with Aaron being involved with recording at Moresound Studios in Syracuse, NY and totally ripping at the controls, Paul's doing vocals for the next DEVIL HIS DUE record, Graham's jamming with FREYA, Mark's involved with his video editing and recording projects and looking for a band to jam with, and Jordan's gonna be chillin like a dude for a while and looking to jam as well. You can check out two new tracks off New York’s THE RED DEATH’s forthcoming new album, Godmakers, over at their MySpace page. The album will be released on January 22nd through Siege of Amida Records.
Ferret Music has announced a partnership with the U.K. based Siege Of Amida Records (AKA SOAR) for North America. Carl Severson of Ferret says of the deal "We will be jointly releasing records together for the U.S. SOAR will be handling A&R and Ferret believes strongly in their vision. We have had a long friendship with Darrent Toms of the label and have been stoked to see his label grow and florish and are excited to bring them here." SOAR is the brainchild of Toms who has worked for Candlelight Records and Plastichead Distribution and Jamie Graham formerly of Terrorizer and One Little Indian Records. The label has become known for breaking new metal heroes from both sides of the Atlantic. The first releases of this new partner ship will be from The Red Death and The Breathing Process to drop in January 2008.
The Red Death hail from upstate NY and fuse the speed and barbarism of Gothenburg Thrash with the unrelenting violence of American Death Metal. They are recommended for fans of The Haunted, Malevolent Creation and At The Gates. The Breathing Process hail from Connecticut and compose in their own words melodic Death Metal with devastatingly heavy breakdowns. They are recommended for fans of Dimmu Borgir, Meshuggah and Bleeding Through. Other releases waiting in the wings for 2008 will be from SOAR artists, The Red Shore, Annotations Of An Autopsy and Traces.
Diskreet and Whitechapel will kick off their upcoming tour together July 1 at The Muse in Nashville, Tennessee. Each will perform selections from their Siege of Amida/Candlelight debuts. The tour will also feature The Red Death and The Partisane Turbine.
Released in early April, Infernal Rise is the debut ep from Topeka-based Diskreet. Together since late 2003, the band have developed a huge following in their native Kansas. Ripping up the stage with a hugely diverse range of ground breaking acts, the band refuse to be pigeonholed into any one genre. So far Dikreet have shared the stage with Deicide, The Acacia Strain, Napalm Death, Despised Icon, Through The Eyes Of The Dead, From A Second Story Window, Origin, Into The Moat, Psyopus, Ed Gein, All Else Failed, Pissing Razors, Anal Blast, Cannae, Incantation and many more. Blabbermouth says, "meet the new kids on the American death metal block."
The Somatic Defilement is the full-length debut from Knoxville's Whitechapel. Hitting stores July 31, the album, mastered by Alan Douches (Nile, The Red Chord, The Acacia Strain), fuses together the sheer brutality of death metal, the chaos and technicality of grindcore, the bludgeoning heaviness of sludge, with an added dash of groove on top. A noted characteristic is Whitechapel’s three guitar assault; without a doubt and impressive apocalyptic sound. A video for the song album track “Vicer Exerciser” is available at the band's MySpace page.

The band's new full-length is expected to hit streets in summer 2007. In the meantime, some of The Red Death's more recent material can be found online here.

New York's The Red Death, who released an album with Metal Blade Records last year, have reportedly been dropped by the label. The move is rumored to be the result of "artistic differences," in addition to instability within the band. No official word has come down on the matter, however.
As previously reported, long time bassist Dominic Mastronunzio recently left the band amicably. Jack Portwood, bassist/singer of upstate NY's Highland Drive, was brought in as Mastronunzio's replacement. The Red Death were last reportedly practicing/writing/planning in preparation for studio time in late March or early April.
Metal Blade Records’ The Red Death has recently had a change in their roll call. Long time bassist, and actively touring comrade, Dominic Mastronunzio has left in a completely amicable fashion and leaves with the best wishes of the band. His plans are unannounced at this time. In order to fill this absence, Jack Portwood, bassist/singer of upstate NY's Highland Drive, is being brought up to speed and broken in, and is excited about the band and his future in it.
The Red Death is currently practicing/writing/planning in preparation for studio time in late March or early April, and slowly trying to become accustomed to quieter life not in a stink-filled van. We plan to play as many shows as possible during this "downtime", so look for us in the grimmest of venues near you. The Red Death is also in the market for some new management and booking; all interested parties should contact the band at email@example.com.
Embrace The End have dropped off the first eleven dates of their upcoming tour with Through The Eyes Of The Dead and The Red Death. According to the band, "We're really bummed to be missing all of these shows and promise we'll make it up to everyone in the months ahead." The group will rejoin the tour on October 18th.
Justin (guitars) talks about the fire that overtook the THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD tour van:
"Yesterday we had transmission problems in our van and it caused the van to go up in flames. We didn't lose anything of huge value and all of our equipment is safe. Everyone got out of the van just fine and no one is hurt. We did lose some of our bags, blankets/pillows, shirts, hoodies, cd's and other miscellanious items. With the help of Prosthetic, we were able to get a new van and make it to the show (although we were really late). We will definitely continue the tour with Ion Dissonance and The Red Death. Thanks to everyone for your support so far. Words can't describe how much we appreciate it. "

We're gearing up to set off on a long, seven week tour with Through the Eyes of the Dead with stints from the almighty Ion Dissonance, Embrace the End, and Summer's End. This is the last time you'll be able to see us for quite a while. When this tour ends in November we'll be cooping ourselves up for a few months writing for our next album, so be sure to make it out and see us! Our apologies go out to anyone wishing to catch us at CMJ in NYC. For various reasons we had to cancel playing the showcase. If you were planning on going - do so anyway! Our brothers of metal, Into the Moat, will be shredding people's faces off as well as the Titans of Mosh named Since the Flood..."
