The Hypocrisy/Abyss frontman talks about the new Pain album "Psalms Of Extinction," how it differs from previous albums, the guest musicians on the album and of course, a tour of the legendary Abyss Studios where everyone from Marduk, to Setherial, Dimmu Borgir and Immortal have created masterpieces. You can watch the video interview here.
You can now download an MP3 of the track "Nailed To The Ground" from Pain's new album. "Nailed To The Ground" comes from Pain's 5th studio album "Psalms of Extinction." Pain is of course the band of producer and Hypocrisy mainman Peter Tagtgren.
Fronted by HYPOCRISY mastermind Peter Tägtgren, the fifth Pain album "Psalms of Extinction" will feature Motorhead drummer Mikkey Dee, Children Of Bodom frontman Alexi Laiho, and Anders Iwers of In Flames who will be performing bass on a couple of tracks.
A video for the cut 'Zombie Slam' will be shot imminently.
Pain's Roadrunner debut, which is the artist's fifth album and the first signing to the Bonnier Amigo / Roadrunner A & R joint venture, will be released in April 2007.
Swedish Death metal legend Peter Tägtgren signs to Roadrunner for his PAIN alter ego.
Since Peter Tägtgren appeared on the music scene back in the early nineties he has been a most extraordinary artist and producer. Known as guitarist and front man of the hard working touring band Hypocrisy, he is also known for his work as a Producer. He has his own studio, Abyss, located in the Swedish outback outside the small town of Ludvika. Hailed by alternative press as "the Rick Rubin of Scandinavian Metal" he has produced Celtic Frost, Immortal, Destruction, Dimmu Borgir, Dark Funeral, and Marduk and others. As if this weren't enough for this true Renaissance man, Peter Tägtgren could be seen and heard, not only live, or on TV, but also in the movies. He has delivered scores and has been seen in cameo roles in many Swedish hit films, including Sleepwalker","Nolltolerans" and "Exit"."
Pain, his more industrial and catchy project, was signed to Universal (Stockholm Records) in 1999. The band has obtained great chart entries, substantial sales and gold disc awards. Music channels have found themselves plugging their videos which were more brutal than anything they'd rotated up to then. As well as touring the Nordic countries, Pain has been touring throughout Europe with In Flames, Tiamat, Atrocity, Theatre Of Tragedy amongst others.
Pain's Roadrunner debut, which is the artist's fifth album and the first signing to the Bonnier Amigo / Roadrunner A & R joint venture, will be released in April 2007. On the new album which is still untitled we find a sharper production, heavier guitars, massive string movements and even more in your face vocals. Actually, on this album there is more of everything.
Release date and quite a few exciting guests performing on the album will be announced shortly."Pain has been a huge success in the Nordic territories and also here and there in continental Europe, but now the time has come to feed the planet with the music of this extraordinary artist" says Jesper Thorsson, A & R, who brought the artist to the Roadrunner.
The new Pain music video for the song "Bye/Die" is online. Check it out here. (RealPlayer is required).
In a recent interview with BW&BK, Hypocrisy/Pain frontman Peter Tägtgren discussed his decision to leave Bloodbath. For those that have been living under a rock, Tägtgren provided vocals on the band's new album, "Nightmares Made Flesh," replacing Opeth vocalist Mike Akerfeldt.
"Leave? I was never in it," Tägtgren laughs. "They asked me to play Wacken, but I told them I was sorry, that I didn't have time. I don't know where I'm going to be there with Pain or at another festival at the same time. They wanted to announce it as a really special thing, and I understand that, but (Dan) Swanö said that it was okay, they would do it with another singer, and if I have time I could step in. But, Mike is back, so I'm off."
"I don't know if I'll do another Bloodbath album," he continues. "It's up to them. If they want to do it with me, great. That's a killer album. People have been commenting on my voice on that album, and all I can say is that it was the songs that brought it out. I think you'll hear a bit of the same kind of vocals on the new Hypocrisy. Musically, there's going to be some faster stuff on it because we've got Horgh on drums. He's playing blastbeats that are faster than what he did with Immortal. We're never going to be a black metal band, but there are parts that are really fast and technical."
