Latest Dying Fetus News
Below is our complete Dying Fetus news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Note: We began associating news directly with bands in late 2003. Therefore, earlier band news may not be listed on this page.
Dying Fetus have officially announced the addition of drummer Duane Timlin to their line-up. Here's a statement from the band:
"It's been a long year of searching, but we wanted to move forward in the certainty of having the right person for the group. Duane joins Mike Kimball, guitar, Sean Beasley, bass and vocals, and original member John Gallagher, guitar and vocals, to complete our 4-piece lineup. The band were already friends with Duane, and even toured with him when he played drums for Divine Empire, who supported Dying Fetus on our 2003 summer headlining tour. Duane submitted an impressive video audition as well as auditioning in person the weekend of May 13, and has demonstrated to us that he has the skills and dedication we were looking for! We want to thank everyone who auditioned or contacted us about the spot - we appreciate your consideration, talent, and hard work. We will announce further details about our recording and touring schedule soon. Keep checking back for recording dates in mid-summer and tour dates in late winter of this year."
Just For Fun
In light of my recent "Just for Fun" post about the Alf playing death metal video, metalunderground.com member WhyLordWhy has suggested a couple more humorous videos:
- Dying Fetus's "Kill Your Mother Rape Your Dog" video set to kids' shows and cartoons.
- Another named "Beth-Dime(cover death/black metal)" appears to be some pop singer synced to death metal vocals. I don't know who this is, so if there is some deeper meaning or humor to this one, someone please explain.
In the wake of drummer Derek Roddy's departure from the band, Hate Eternal have recruited drummer Kevin Talley for their upcoming tour with Chimaira and Arch Enemy. Talley has previously done time in Chimaira and Dying Fetus, among many others. Hate Eternal's Erik Rutan has issued the following statement:
"First off, I want to say that Hate Eternal will not be cancelling any upcoming tour dates, period! We are very much looking forward to seeing everyone next week on the Chimaira/Arch Enemy tour as well as seeing you loyal sick maniacs in Europe who have been so patiently waiting to see us for over a year. At this point we would like to announce that Kevin Talley will be stepping up to the plate and filling in on drums for the upcoming US Chimaira/Arch Enemy tour. Kevin is an amazing talent that we very much look forward to touring with and we want to thank him sincerely for his help in fulfilling our committment.
Regarding Derek Roddy, he has left Hate Eternal with very little warning and I want to set the story straight. We wish to take the high road here so there will be no mud slinging and whining, just facts. Randy and I spoke to Derek this past weekend and he informed us that a situation in his life had arisen which might stop him from doing these tours and force him to leave the band. But if everything turned out ok, he would fulfill his obligation to the band and fulfill our touring committments. We did not hear from Derek since that conversation and the next thing we know, 48 hours later, I get a phone call from a friend stating about Derek's press release with him quitting the band in which we had no prior knowledge of, contradicting our conversation 2 days prior. I found out like everyone else did online!
Regarding the content of his press release, we have never stopped or restrained Derek from playing, recording or touring with any other projects (he has recorded multiple albums during the 6 years of Hate Eternal with Council of the Fallen, Aurora Borealis, Nile, plus doing drum clinics, his instructional videos and his new project with Alex Webster). So we found his statement quite a contradiction and shocking to say the least. I still have not spoken to Derek since this and have no idea where his head is at. No one has supported Derek more than Randy and I for the last 6 years and we have made many sacrifices for Derek to be a part of this band. Anyone and everyone in this buisness knows if you think you are going to make tons of cash playing metal, then you are in it for the wrong reasons, that is why we have been supportive in Derek making money with his other projects, clinics, DVDs, etc. We as a band have had financial setbacks with a van accident and being stranded in Canada forcing us to cancel many shows, but every other tour we have done has made financial gain, not a ton of cash, but in the green. What band has not had financial woes? Hate Eternal has helped Derek become a very well known drummer, sell DVD instructional videos, endorsements, etc. and make tons of fans of Derek's drumming. After 6 years of playing together we would have hoped that he would leave on better terms than he did, but life goes on. We wish Derek luck in his future endeavors."
COVENANCE, the new band featuring former MISERY INDEX members Matt Byers (drums) and Bruce Greig (also ex-DYING FETUS), have parted ways with vocalist Vince Matthews (ex-DYING FETUS) due to "professional differences." His replacement in the group is none other than former CRYPTOPSY frontman Martin Lacroix. Martin will make his recording debut with the band in April when the band are scheduled to begin work on a new CD, to be followed by extensive touring.
Formed in March 2005, COVENANCE's first demo was remastered by Erik Rutan (HATE ETERNAL, MORBID ANGEL) and released as the "Ravaging The Pristine" CD (TCI) and 7" (Emetic Records).
Dying Fetus have posted the following message reguarding their new album:
"While DYING FETUS are diligently looking for a drummer, we are also hard at work on our next album, which we intend to complete and begin recording sometime in the Fall to Winter of this year. We currently have six new songs completed, with the help of our computer drum software. Some song titles to expect:
Parasites of Catastrophe
Raping The System
The Ancient Rivalry
It has been a productive summer for us, and we're making good progress when we're not busy with our day jobs. We will announce recording dates after we have recruited a new drummer. We look forward to seeing you on the road in 2006!"
COVENANCE, the new band formed by ex-DYING FETUS singer Vince Matthews and former MISERY INDEX members Matt Byers (drums) and Bruce Greig (also ex-DYING FETUS), have uploaded their entire April 2005 three-song demo to their MySpace.com page. The tracks available for download are as follows: "Narcotic", "Ravaging the Pristine" and "Assimilate".
The group, whose sound is being described as "melodic, brutal death metal" and unlike that of either DYING FETUS or MISERY INDEX, will soon launch their official web site, www.covenance.com.
Drummer Erik Sayenga has left DYING FETUS "due to circumstances beyond his control," according to an official statement.
Commented Erik: "DYING FETUS are a great band and I want to thank the other members of FETUS, the cool people we have met on the road and all the fans for the good times.I am unable to continue playing in this band but I wish DYING FETUS all the best of luck in all they do."

Dying Fetus have hired drummer John Longstreth for their upcoming tour with Gwar, as their regular drummer will be unable to participate. Longstreth left The Red Chord last month and according to Dying Fetus, "[he] has done a great job of learning our set list for these shows with barely two weeks of daily rehearsals."
Vocalist Vince Matthews has been dismissed from the Dying Fetus lineup. According to the band, "This action was taken due to a number of musical, professional, and personal reasons that we feel do not need elaboration at this time." However, the group goes on to state that "Vince remains a long-time friend of several Dying Fetus members and we wish him the best of luck in the future." The move will apparently not affect the band's current tour plans, as they intend to continue as a four-piece, handling the vocals "accordingly."
Misery Index, the Baltimore, Maryland-based band featuring Jason Netherton (bass/vocals, ex-Dying Fetus) and Sparky Voyles (guitar, ex-Dying Fetus, M.O.D.), are looking for a second guitarist to join the group on tour next year. "Ability to play all metal-related styles (death, grind, black, thrash, etc.), and availability to tour at any time are essential," reads a posting on the group's web site. "Also, lack of a criminal record (for crossing international borders) and willingness to relocate are important. We also would prefer a guitarist who can do vocals as well, and touring/recording experience is a plus. Anyone interested please get in touch at MIBooking@aol.com. METAL!!!..."
