Latest Circle of Dead Children News
Below is our complete Circle of Dead Children news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Note: We began associating news directly with bands in late 2003. Therefore, earlier band news may not be listed on this page.
Circle of Dead Children has checked in with the following update about band lineup changes:
"Circle of Dead Children have recently parted ways with guitarist and co-founding member, Jason Andrews. CODC is extremely appreciative and thankful to Jason for the twelve years he has dedicated to the band and the numerous unmatched memories which he gifted to each member of the band from 1998 to present. We wish him all the best in whatever moves he makes next in life and will forever stand beside him as a great friend.
"Anyone following CODC over the past decade has seen our production and output slow down significantly over the past several years and decisions to put the band to permanent rest have been considered, especially lately. However, instead of viewing this most recent change as another damaging or distressing circumstance, CODC has been invigorated and motivated to a new level.
"Circle of Dead Children is pleased to announce a new bass player to the fold; long time friend and Pittsburgh punk/metal veteran, Brooks. Drew Haritan, bassist for CODC since 2005, has now taken over command on guitar and has already begun creating a follow-up to 2010's 'Psalm of the Grand Destroyer' (Willowtip Records/Candlelight Records). Expect the Circle of Dead Children sound to be taken to a new level of mind-screwing punishment, intensity and ill-willed passion for 2011. Horns up to all who've supported CODC over the years and into the future. Face down in the sewers. Keep screaming."
Circle Of Dead Children has issued the following update about releasing a new album:
"Just a little update on the status of Psalm of the Grand Destroyer, the upcoming Circle of Dead Children full-length recording. Although the music was recorded in November of 2008, various circumstances effectively sidelined the progression and release since then. Thankfully this is no longer the case. All of the vocals were laid down yesterday morning by Joe, bringing about an end to a great recording session with Nate Campisi at Pittsburgh's Mr. Small's Recording and Mastering Studio. Next up will be a production mastering session by Scott Hull (of Pig Destroyer, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Japanese Torture Comedy Hour, etc) at Visceral Sound, in Bethesda, Maryland. Those familiar with the work Scott has done should be as excited as we are about hearing the final product. Please contact Willowtip Records for any questions regarding release dates, etc."
The track listing for "Psalm of the Grand Destroyer" will be as follows:
1. Avatar of Innocence
3. When Human Compost Stains all Earth and Repels the Messengers of Love
4. Chaos Crawls Back
5. Earth and Lye
6. We Who Move with the Graven Worms
7. Bury the Ill Flock
8. Refuse to Kill the Same Way Twice
9. Obsidian Flakes
10. Clawhammers and Cameltoes
11. Ursa Major (1998 revisited)
13. Night of Morbid Psycho
14. Germinate the Reaper Seed (the future of flesh)
15. Starve, Beg & Die a.k.a. Fuck You, Kill Me.

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania grind outfit Circle Of Dead Children plans to book studio time in February or March to record a new full-length album. Willowtip Records will release the effort late this year.
Meanwhile the band is also currently planning a West Coast tour in addition to tours of Europe and possibly South America.
The forthcoming Anaal Nathrakh album, entitled "Hell Is Empty, And All The Devils Are Here," is due to be released through FETO Records on October 29th 2007. Their fourth studio album promises to be a rabid whirlwind of schizophrenic malice, wide-eyed terror, and venom that is as encyclopaedic in its genre defying convulsions as it is downright vile.
Having featured several notable guest appearances through their recording career, Anaal Nathrakh are this time aided and abetted in their chaos by Josama Bin Horvath of American ultra-grind band Circle Of Dead Children, and are reunited with slave to the grind Shane Embury of Napalm Death.
SuperNova Records has announced the signing of Complete Failure.
Based in Pittsburgh, PA, Complete Failure features drummer Mike Rosswog, formerly of Today Is The Day and Circle Of Dead Children. Complete Failure's sound is described as "anthemic crust/hardcore and punishing grindcore, building upon elements of bands such as His Hero is Gone, Terrorizer, Neurosis, Today Is The Day, and Converge."
According to SuperNova Records label owner (and Today Is The Day frontman) Steve Austin, "Complete Failure are the future of grind as we know it. Explosive and undeniable, this band is set to become an instant classic when their new record hits stores in 2008."
Complete Failure will record their debut album this fall at Austin Enterprise in Nashville, TN, with Steve Austin producing. The album will see a 2008 release on SuperNova Records. The band will be touring throughout 2008.
Pennsylvania-based grinders CIRCLE OF DEAD CHILDREN have posted the following update:
“CODC founder & vocalist, Joe Horvath, ran into complications following a surgery he had to have done about a month ago. He was re-hospitalized last week after developing a very serious and potentially fatal staph infection which has rapidly traveled into his body and bones. He’s undergone another surgery recently and is due to be under the knife again for at least three more surgeries in the near future. He is currently out of the Intensive Care Unit but has to remain hospitalized for undetermined time after which he will be under the care of home health nurses, etc.
Anyone who has been waiting on email responses, interviews, et cetera from Joe please be patient or direct them to someone else in CODC. Friends, fans, etc. feel free to send him email, etc. as it will be read to him when possible. The support is needed at this time more than ever.”
Pittsburgh's CIRCLE OF DEAD CHILDREN have added drummer Matt Francis to their line-up. Vocalist Joe Horvath comments:
"At a point when we had all but thrown dirt over our own casket, life has once more been injected with the vacancy of the drum position being finally filled. Binghamton, New York’s, Matt Francis has recently joined CIRCLE OF DEAD CHILDREN and we plan to soon begin work on a yet-to-be-titled sixth release due out during the summer of 2007, on Willowtip Records. Matt’s addition to CODC drives the band to its most caustic and explosive level to date. Blackened iron hails to the fans and fellow bands who have pushed us through the downtimes and continue to support us into the future. Keep screaming."
Circle Of Dead Children is now actively seeking a replacement for drummer Mike Bartek, who split with the group in June. Candidates interested in trying out for the band should send an email to email@example.com.
Pennsylvania based grinders CIRCLE OF DEAD CHILDREN have posted the following update:
"Mike Bartek is no longer a part of CODC and for the indefinite time being we are forced into hiatus. We apologize to the promoters and bands we have had shows booked with as well as the fans, as we were about 3/4 of the way through the next full-length release. There was absolutely no way around this. Mike had a list of "qualities" that would have had him tossed from most bands, but friendship was what mostly kept him with us. This time he crossed way over the line and defecated on any concepts of friendship and respect possible and stooped lower than we thought even he would ever go.
So he is gone and an ugly part of the CIRCLE's past and, for anyone who has followed CODC through the years, we are once again in the situation of finding a new member. Joe, Jason and Drew have decided to continue on and feel that ultimately, Mike's departure will be a huge blessing in disguise for CODC. After 3 drummers, 3 bass players and 3 guitarists, the machine will hopefully continue on. Plenty of skulls still need crushed.
We will begin tryouts for a new drummer asap. If interested, please contact CODC at firstname.lastname@example.org We are located in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area."

June 10th-11th will mark the return of the nationally acclaimed 'Dwell in Darkness' festival that is set to bring a dark cloud over the city of Dayton, Ohio for two straight days. In a waning metal scene, SMNnews.com in conjunction with JagerMeister, and The End Records will be breathing new life back into Dayton, Ohio for a two day metal extravaganza that will feature a myriad of international, national, regional, and local bands.
The 2 days of pure metal fury will be unleashed at Elbos, a premiere Dayton venue that will be housing most diverse festival that North America has to offer. Located in the heart of the "Oregon District", Elbos features an outdoor patio, pool tables, vendorville and merch areas, and a full bar.
Headlining Day One (June 10th) of Dwell in Darkness II, all the way from Norway will be Century Media Records' mighty Extol. Century Media's finest Canadian act, progressive-melodic-death metallers Into Eternity as well as one of Nuclear Blast Records latest signings All Shall Perish will be storming the front, part of an all out main stage Ohioan aural assault.
Also diverging away from their regular touring schedule, from the white-hot West Coast label, Prosthetic Records (Lamb of God, All that Remains, Himsa, etc.), will be one of West Virginia's most merciless and forthright acts - Byzantine. Alas, what would a true festival be without a bit of female spice? Broadzilla, who have toured the world, will also be stopping by to tear the house down. Jetting over from Illinois, with bottles of Jager in hand, and plenty of free merch, will be Metal Blade Records artists and rock and roll virtuosos the Heavils - expect a set-time full of surprises!
