Painmuseum Confirm US Release Date
November 16, 2004 has been confirmed as the official U.S. release date for the long-awaited "Metal For Life" album from guitarist "Metal" Mike Chlasciak's (Testament, ex-Halford) Painmuseum. "Metal For Life" features Chlasciak, Bobby Jarzombek (Iced Earth, ex-Halford, Riot) on drums, Steve DiGiorgio (Testament, Sadus, Death, Vintersorg) on bass and newcomer Tim Clayborne (Hatred) on vocals. The album was mixed by Roy Z. (Judas Priest, Bruce Dickenson, Halford, Helloween) and mastered by James Murphy (Testament, Death, Disincarnate). Additional guest vocals were provided by Joe Comeau (Overkill, Annihilator).
This will be the first U.S. release under Metal Mike's own label imprint C.M.M. Entertainment, LLC. C.M.M.'s exclusive retail chain agreement with Transworld Entertainment Group places this and future C.M.M. releases in major U.S. retail chain locations, namely FYE, Coconuts, Wherehouse, Strawberries, The Wall, Camelot and more. Metal Music World Marketing, LLC will provide marketing, sales and promotion. "Metal For Life" will also be available through several Internet providers including CDBaby.com, GuitarMusic9.com, Metal Mike Armory Store at www.painmuseum.com, CenturyMedia.com, TowerRecords.com, and metal speciality store locations.
The Metal God himself, Rob Halford, also gave "Metal For Life" thumbs up and invited the release to be placed for sale at RobHalford.com.
Distribution to metal speciality retail in the U.S., Central and South America will be handled by Century Media/CM Distro direct sales. Album downloads will be found at iTunes, SonyConnect, Napster, Rhapsody, AOL's MusicNet, and more.
Territories outside of the U.S./Central and South America are already spoken for and full label details will be disclosed soon. It has also been confirmed that Metal Mike Chlasciak has signed a worldwide publishing deal with Warner/Chappell Music.
"'Metal For Life' is an album that I feel is one of the best I have ever been a part of," stated Mike in a press release. "It is 100% of what it should and what this band wanted it to be, and proudly 0% of what the martini drinking bullshit talkers wanted it to be. This CD is about what the words heavy metal mean to us, the band. The creative and recording process was closed to the business world, and only opened to the individuals that made this album. To us metal is a sign of freedom and individuality. The music speaks the truth."
You can preview album cover and tracks "I Am Your Keeper", "Speak The Name", "Hosanna Hosanna", "Words Kill Everything", "American Metalhead", "Dogs In A Cage" and "Live And Die" at this location.

Testament In Recording Mode
San Francisco Bay Area thrash legends TESTAMENT have issued the following press release via their official web site:
"Eric Peterson [guitar] has been given the green light to drive again by his doctor following his long recovery from a triple-fracture leg surgery. On tour in June, he fell down a flight of stairs resulting in the fracture that put him in the hospital in Vienna for 12 days. He spent the rest of the summer and part of the fall recuperating and in physical therapy.
"Now that he is mobile, he can drive the hour+ to the TESTAMENT recording studio, Driftwood Studios, and get back to working on the recording. He is in the studio two to three days a week with Chuck Billy and Paul Bostaph jamming on the songs as Chuck continues to work up more melody and lyric ideas.
"In preparation for their follow up CD to the #1 Chart topper, 'The Gathering', Eric and Chuck upgraded their hideaway studio to include a state-of-the-art Digi-Design Pro Tools HD hard disk recording system. Chuck is quoted as saying, 'We wanted to [and did] get all the bells and whistles plug-ins and hardware necessary to deliver a killer album.' No doubt it will be deafening — as usual.
"Currently, longtime friend and acclaimed recording engineer and ProTools pro Vinnie Wojno is helping TESTAMENT test-drive their newly installed system. Last week they added a newly constructed raised platform for the drum kit to better anchor a biting edge on the drum tones. Wojno set up the drum mic-ing for Lombardo on 'The Gathering' and likes the new upgraded set up.
"Recording legend has it that in order to get drum ideas out of Eric Peterson's head and onto the tracks, Dave Lombardo had to duct tape his sticks into his hands for one of the more blistering outings on 'The Gathering'. Paul Bostaph, a metal drum legend in his own right, endorsed by Tama, steps 'into the pit' for this new record and brings his own formidable double-kick talents to the mix."

There seems to be an inspired vibe going on in the writing process that is taking on a life of its own."

Megadeth In Talks With Annihilator Axe Legend
BW&BK is reporting at their site bravewords.com that Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has revealed that he has been in talks with Annihilator guitar legend Jeff Waters about him possibly joining the ranks of the newly rejuvenated thrash legends.
"I’ve been talking to one of your countrymen about playing with me and it looks pretty good," Mustaine revealed about his recent communication with Waters.
"We’ve been talking quite a lot and my only fear is that he’s so good and he’s a leader of his own thing and this is an institution here, it’s a worldwide thing and, you know. I’ve already had some struggles with bringing in a hired gun that was a leader of another situation with Alan (Pitrelli). Alan’s a good guy, good player. I don’t think that he really could take going from being a leader in Savatage and TSO (Trans-Siberian Orchestra) to being, you know, second, or actually fourth, in Megadeth. I don’t think he could handle it. That’s my only fear about working with Jeff is that he’s a leader of his own thing.
But, we’re talkin’ and we’re talkin’ and I’m passionate about what I want to do and it may very well happen. We’ve obviously started a friendship and I’ve known of him for years. It may just be that this is a combination that will put him on the map and give me some stability because I have a lot of friends that are Canadian and every one of them is just fucking righteous."
This isn't the first time that a Mustaine-Waters collaboration has been spoken about. Waters was rumored to replace Jeff Young (So Far, So Good...So What! era) in the late '80s. More...
Alex Skolnick Performs With 30-Piece Orchestra
Former TESTAMENT/SAVATAGE guitarist Alex Skolnick recently took part in the premier of "Jekyll & Hyde: The Concert", featuring a 30-piece orchestra. " It was simultaneously one of my most challenging and most rewarding musical experiences," Alex said. "To play in such a situation requires a lot of focus and concentration. You have to give it all your energy but still not lose your place with the sheet music and with the conductor (make a mistake and it's VERY obvious!). But when it all comes together it's something else. The music covers a lot of territory, from suspense to cabaret to pop and driving rock. Some sections were like an electric guitar concerto. It was funny to think back to the very early days of TESTAMENT in those sweaty dive bars; I never could have imagined I'd one day be surrounded by strings, brass, woodwinds, classical percussion and a conductor. It was a thrill to work hands on with creator/composer Frank Wildhorn. For now it's looking like our next round of performances is the week of September 8th at the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut (with an eight-piece ensemble) with more large orchestra performances as a future possibility. Even if you're not a Broadway fan, you'll probably enjoy this, as it's got a rock edge both in the story and the music (at one time Sebastian Bach was in the lead role). Check out this show if you can!"
Testament Gets Turned Off At Bang Your Head Fest
The promoters of the German-based BANG YOUR HEAD FESTIVAL have issued this statement regarding an incident with the band TESTAMENT on Saturday:
Many visitors were annoyed as the show of Bay Area-Thrashers Testament found a sudden end on the Saturday of this year's Bang Your Head and the amps were turned off while the band was still playing. Unfortunately, certain unpleasant circumstances left no other choice left for us.
The background information: The band had overrun their stage schedule by far. Before Testament started their changeover and their soundcheck, there had been a delay on stage of abour 10 minutes, that had been caused by other bands. We asked the responsible tour manager and the band's sound technician to do the soundcheck as quickly as possible in order to try to make up at least some of the lost time. Unfortunately, our call was unheard and the soundcheck took an awfully lot of time. That wasn't all, though. After everything was finally checked and prepared, the sound technician hit the road to the PA tower. On arrvial, he noticed he had forgotten something and went all the way back to the stage - through the audience! When he arrived at the tower a second time, Testament had used twice as much time for the changeover than scheduled (40 instead of 20 minutes). Therefore, the overall delay had summarized to more than 30 minutes. Unfortunately, we do have strict curfew set up by the city of Balingen saying that the headliner's show has to end at 11 PM. ICED EARTH agreed to shorten their set by two songs and we told TESTAMENT'S tour manager that his band has to shorten its set as well. He was supposed to inform the band about that - but he actually just wouldn't do [it]. Though he shared the stage with the guys and we asked him several times to deliver the important information to the band, he kept on ignoring our request [and] didn't pass anything forward to Chuck Billy and the guys, resulting the band to play on and on. Finally, we had no other choice left than to put the most unpleasant and unpopular end to the show and pull the plug. We feel very sorry for the fans of Testament and the band itself. Everything could have gone less unpleasant if there had been just a bit more professional and cooperative attitude on the part of the band's tour manager and sound technician.

James Murphy Updates On Within The Mind Project
Former TESTAMENT/DEATH guitarist James Murphy has issued the following update regarding his upcoming DEATH tribute project, "Within The Mind - In Homage To The Musical Legacy Of Chuck Schuldiner" (web site), tentatively due in June through Holland's Mascot Records:
"This past Saturday [Feb. 21] I traveled to Orlando to Richard Christy's [ICED EARTH, ex-DEATH, CONTROL DENIED] warehouse where he and I practiced the songs which he will be playing on for the 'Within The Mind' project. on the first passes through the songs we nailed them... it sounded more like we had been playing together for months rather than minutes. Richard is a very disciplined and talented musician and clearly those traits, along with his love for the music of DEATH and Chuck Schuldiner, have pushed him to put a good amount of his free time into practicing for the upcoming session. The results will be awesome, I'm more than certain.More...
