Texas Independence Fest Day 2: Whitechapel

Deathcore was the chosen style of music for day two of Texas Independence Fest in Austin, Texas. Whitechapel headlined and Oceano and Boris The Blade were two of the bands providing support. All those bands played the main stage, the Garage Stage. Before getting into this this stage, I would like to look at some of the small stage, Control Room Stage. Metalcore seems to be alive and well in Temple, Texas, a town located an hour north of Austin. Insonomist out of Temple played yesterday’s show and In The Trench played today. Vocalist Steven Harding’s refrain was infectious and the band got the small crowd in motion. More...

Terror Universal Splits With Vocalist

Fallout from the Civil Unrest tour debacle continues. For those who missed it, Otep dropped off the tour after alleging that Terror Universal's front man Rott (Chad Armstrong) sexually assaulted her - a claim that was originally denied by both the organizers of the tour and the wife of said front man.

However Terror Universal has now parted ways with Rott, issuing the following announcement via Facebook:

"Friends and fans, thank you for always supporting TU. We want to inform you, that due to personal differences, and the course of events these past couple of weeks, Chad Armstrong is no longer the lead singer for Terror Universal.

"We will debut Terror Universal's new singer this weekend at the Texas Independence Fest. Next week we will post live video, so you can all hear and see our new kickass singer. We promise, our new frontman is everything you would expect from tu!!

"We wish Chad good luck, and thank all Terror Universal friends & fans for all your support."

Ill Nino Issues Statement About Civil Unrest Tour

Following Otep dropping off the Civil Unrest tour after accusing a member of Terror Universal of sexual harrasment, Ill Nino has now issued the following statement about the tour going on without either group:

"Ill Nino does not condone any forced act of violence or sexual nature towards any human beings, nor will we tolerate violations of one's personal space.

"This also goes for cyber-bullying, or making demeaning comments towards ANYONE on social media. We strongly support equality for all.

"We would like to draw closure by stating that the Civil Unrest Tour will continue without participation from either Otep or Terror Universal. We're looking forward to hitting the road, reuniting with our fans and friends, and also sharing the stage with our tour brothers, and sisters, Kittie & 36 Crazyfists. Stay tuned, more bands to be added!!"

Otep Drops Off Tour, Alleges Sexual Assault

Update: Terror Universal has now parted ways with its front man without stating a specific reason for the split, but it appears likely to be triggered by these events.

Otep has dropped off The Civil Unrest Tour due to issues with another band slated to be on the bill, with front woman Otep Shamaya alleging sexual assault on the part of that group's front man. The Otep Facebook page released this message to fans:

"Before the rumor mill begins: We dropped off the Civil Unrest tour because Terror Universal's molester singer violently grabbed my crotch on our last tour. He’s a drunken joke and a fucking scumbag. He’s lucky security handled it before I or my band could.

"We gave them a shot to play in front of our fans and we were repaid by this drunken jackass violating me during the meet and greet in front of our fans.

"We made it very clear that we will never play any show that has Terror Universal on it. We don’t tolerate any kind of passive sexual violence. We owe that to our fans and I never want to experience anything like that again especially from an opening act we were trying to help by giving them exposure to our TRIBE.

"We will be headlining in May-June and give the TRIBE a proper RIOT without any pants rapists on the bill. Onwards & upwards."

However it appears not everyone agrees with Otep's recounting of events, as The Civil Unrest Tour's Facebook page was just updated with this message in response: More...
