January 30th, 2016 will mark the official kick off of the first annual Florida Metal Fest! Organized by brothers John and Donald Tardy of death metal legends, Obituary, and set to take place at The Cuban Club, Ybor City in Tampa, year one of the brutal gala will see some of the Sunshine State's most iconic bands - including Obituary, Malevolent Creation, Deicide and Atheist - unite and return to their roots in the very heart of the death metal world. Additionally, the Tardy brothers have invited some of their favorite bands from around the country to take part in this special event including Corrosion Of Conformity, Trouble, Madball, Broken Hope and Generichrist!
Two local Floridian bands, both winners of the Battle Of The Bands contest show, will be opening the fest. The first battle was held on November 27th at the BrassMug where the winning band was
Untoten Krieg. The second battle will take place on December 26th at the Crowbar in Ybor City to determine the final band of this year's lineup.
Said John Tardy of fest: "My brother and I have been so fortunate and thankful to be part of some the best and biggest music festivals in the world. The amount of people, bands and energy these festivals can bring is just awesome. From the first time we played one, it has always been a dream of ours to put together a music festival that is not only fun for the fans, bands and crews, but one that also brings a closeness to all involved. After years and years of talking about it, we finally decided the time is now. We want to put together a first class festival. From the venue to the PA, from the lights to the lineup we are trying our best to make this as memorable event as possible. No festival, anywhere in the world, even with the best possible lineup, would work if the area does not support it. I think that Tampa, and its surrounding cities, is a great music area and one that is ready to make this event come to life."

After signing a record deal with Century Media late last year, Malevolent Creation is now at work on a new album and has issued the following brief update:
"Happy New Years Everyone!!!! 2015 is going to a good one for Malevolent Creation and for our fans!!! Look for our new album in spring 2015 on Century Media Records."
This upcoming, as-yet-untitled album will follow the previous studio album from 2010 "Invidious Dominion." Stay tuned for more details.
Malevolent Creation just signed a worldwide deal with Century Media Records. Currently working on an upcoming 12th full-length, the band will unleash this new album in 2015 and tour the world in support of it. Vocalist/founding member Bret Hoffmann comments:
"I am very excited and extremely pumped to be signing and working with Century Media! I believe we will finally get that push we need to really get our music out there!! It feels great to have the guys at Century Media believe in us and our new songs, and really want to stand behind them and the band, and push us forward to bigger things! I mean I think we have always been a bit under rated (I hear that from a lot of fans too) and I really think with this signing we have a great chance to boost this band up!!! It's also a pleasure to have drummer Justin DiPinto back in the fold! He brings the hungry aggressive quality this band has always had back to the forefront!
"When we played 3 weeks of festivals and shows in Europe in August it felt great!! That aggression was feeling strong!! Looking so forward to playing MANY shows after this album hits the street!! Speaking of which. We are currently working on the new slab! It is coming out intense and heavy as HELL!! Everyone is killing it! I think everyone is just so determined and hungry to bust out the heaviest music and ideas we can with this one!! Great heavy grooves will not be missing, I promise!!
"With this signing to Century Media and the new ripping album being done, I see great thing happening!! So with that being said, we will soon be unleashing the Malevolence all over the world!!! We will be pounding stages and eardrums into oblivion and hope to see you all out there!!! Let the slaughter commence!!!!"
Guitarist/founding member Phil Fasciana adds: "I couldn't agree more with Bret's comments concerning signing with such an established record label (Century Media) and having the confidence of knowing we are working with a company that believes in our band's music and will get it distributed worldwide properly. Along with guitarist Gio Geraca, bassist/founding member Jason Blachowicz and returning drummer Justin DiPinto, we no longer have the word 'compromise' associated with band and its music. More...
Malevolent Creation, which has been going through lineup changes in the drummer slot, has now checked in with the following announcement about upcoming live shows:

"Come witness the new faster, more furious version of Malevolent Creation like you've Never seen em before!!!" More...
Yesterday drummer Gus Rios announced he was parting ways with Malevolent Creation. A statement went up on the band's Facebook page that day, which was quickly taken down after strong backlash from the fanbase over the derogatory nature of the post. Now the band has issued the following comments about the matter:
"The decision to replace our now x drummer Gus Rios has been in the works for the last 6 month's. The decision became final after the recording of our new album and the cancellation of our show in Chicago January 25th, 2014 after our drummer Gus contacted the promoter and changed our flight's to Chicago from early Friday the 24th to the day of the show on the 25th. Without telling anyone in the band until a week before the show. That resulted in a huge problem within the band and ultimately our flights to Chicago were cancelled that Saturday, January 25th due to an ice storm coming through Chicago that afternoon.
"That day we decided we were firing Gus from the band and contacted our former and now new drummer Justin Dipinto who played with and recorded the Malevolent Creation album 'The Will To Kill' in 2002. There have been to many problems with Gus since he began filling in as our drummer in 2009 to mention, but the fact that he recorded/programmed/edited the drum parts on our last 2 recordings was really the final nail in the coffin.
"We have recorded many albums since 1990 and they were all recorded as a band playing with a drummer live in the studio until the drums were perfect for each song. This is now our 2nd recording that nobody was present for when the drums were recorded and on our newest album 'The Path Of Malevolence' Chapter 1 I had to record my guitar to a click track and then Gus recorded/programmed and edited his drum tracks to the music. Anyone who has been playing music as long as we have knows a real band does not record like that. And the fake sounding and edited kick drums are something we have avoided all these years until Gus entered the picture. More...
Drummer Gus Rios has issued a statement via Sick Drummer about parting ways with Malevolent Creation. He comments:
"After several years, I have decided to part ways permanently with Malevolent Creation. The simple reason is personal differences.
"I appreciate all of the people I've worked with during my time with the band and want to thank all of them - I'm sure we'll work together again in the future with another band. Most of all, I would like to thank all of the fans who have supported the band! I'm sure you will continue to support.
"This opens me up for bands in need of a touring and/or recording drummer, as well as a full-time position if the situation is right. I can be reached on my Facebook page here."
Malevolent Creation recently finished recording a new album, and has reunited with original bass player Jay Black for live shows. The band has unfortunately had to cancel the previously scheduled appearance today in Chicago, stating:
"Due to weather, which led to cancelled flights, we are regretfully not able to make tonight's show in Chicago. We are working with the promoter to reschedule for some time AFTER winter. We apologize and hope to have a new date scheduled soon."
Further details on the forthcoming album will be along shortly. For more info on upcoming live activity from Malevolent Creation, head over to Facebook here.

My reaction to yesterday's arrest of Burzum's sole member Varg Vikernes wasn't shock, it was laughter. The guy was convicted of manslaughter and arson and the French were dumb enough to not only let him into their country on a farm far away from prying eyes but also purchase a number of firearms that he even photographed himself with. What exactly did the Gendarmerie Nationale think he was going to do? The only part of this that's shocking is that it took this long for the French to actually arrest him.
To expand on why exactly this scenario was inevitable, it's that Varg believes in the innate supremacy of all Germanic people while living in a country of Southern Europeans that also has a large Arab minority. This along with his self-imposed isolation was probably going to bring him to his breaking point.
After the British were involved in a scandal where it took them years to finally deport two radical clerics with ties to Al Queda, why would the French bother with somebody who's even more obviously a security risk? Even if the authorities were jumping the gun and there was no terror plot, Varg has to take some responsibility for his reputation. I mean, really, does this photograph look innocent to you? More...
