Just For Fun
We figured we'd wait until you're thoroughly sick of hearing about Michael Jackson's death before posting our own article. Inspired by Metalunderground.com reader Gorecunt's Facebook note, I've compiled a list of metal Michael Jackson covers from YouTube, some more serious than others. While Jacko really has nothing to do with metal, some of our readers may still have enjoyed his music. Please raise your hands to be banned (just kidding). As such, this is all purely for fun, regardless what you think of him. Eleven metal(ish) covers of Michael Jackson songs can be seen below (with a couple of bonuses as well), after the jump. More...

TVT Records, once hailed as Billboard's top independent label will file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy this week, company head Steve Gottlieb tells Billboard.com. "This is not the end of TVT," he insists. Founded in New York in 1985, TVT rose to notoriety after releasing music by Nine Inch Nails and KMFDM. Other notable heavy artists on the label's roster have included Sevendust and Bobaflex. In recent years, however, the label has focused on hip-hop, scoring a series of hits with artists such as Lil Jon, Pitbull and Ying Yang Twins,
TVT Music Publishing will not be closed, according to Gottlieb. "That's the only part that hasn't had layoffs," says a source. "People have left and they haven't hired new replacements, but everyone I know in publishing as of yesterday is still working. Although, the people still remaining are just there to fill orders and deal with overdue accounts payable."
TuneLabMusic.com reports that Nine Inch Nails front-man Trent Reznor is delighted TVT Records has filed for bankruptcy, after falling out with the company in the early 90s. Reznor fell out with the firm following a series of disputes over producers, single releases and royalties. In 1992, the he reached an agreement with TVT allowing him to leave the label while still paying a small amount of proceeds.
Reznor can’t help but revel in the news that the company is in trouble. He wrote on his website: “You’re gonna get yours. Not ALL news in the music industry is bad these days.” The star linked his statement to an article about the collapse of TVT.
The second coming of Megadeth's acclaimed traveling metal festival Gigantour arrives on both DVD and CD April 22 via Image Entertainment. Conceived in 2005 by Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine, Gigantour resurrects metal's focus on stellar musicianship.
The Gigantour DVD and CD follow Image Entertainment's fall 2006 release of the debut Gigantour CD and DVD, which featured performances by Megadeth, Dream Theater, Fear Factory, Anthrax (CD only), Nevermore, Life of Agony, Symphony X, Dry Kill Logic and Bobaflex.
Gigantour 2 features over an hour of performances by iconic and influential heavy metal pioneers Megadeth, along with Lamb of God, Opeth, Arch Enemy, Overkill, The Smashup, and Into Eternity. Recorded in DTS 5.1 surround sound, the DVD version also features a behind the scenes look at the 2006 tour, while both the DVD and CD offer a hidden bonus track--Megadeth's "Peace Sells."
The release of the Gigantour 2 DVD and CD coincides with this year's Earth Day--perfect, really, since MUSTAINE has said, with a laugh, about Gigantour's mission of emphasizing true musicianship and virtuosity: " I think that in a small way, we are cleaning up the environment of crappy bands."
Meanwhile, in February Megadeth heads to Europe--where recently announced new guitarist Chris Broderick (Nevermore, Jag Panzer) will make his debut with the band alongside Mustaine, drummer Shawn Drover, and bassist James Lomenzo, before returning for this year's Gigantour.
The 29-date North American trek kicks off April 12 at The Fillmore in Denver and criss-crosses the U.S. and Canada until its May 22 finale at the Mesa Amphitheatre in Phoenix . Joining Megadeth on this year's tour are Scandinavian death metal band In Flames, Finland's Children of Bodom, Arizona's modern extreme Job for a Cowboy, and Oakland, CA heavy power trio High on Fire.

"Tales From Dirt Town" hits stores October 30 on TVT Records.
West Virginian metal maniacs Bobaflex will follow up their 2005 release "Apologize For Nothing" on October 30 with "Tales From Dirt Town." The 12-track disc was produced and mixed by Russ T. Cobb (Sevendust) and recorded at Bang! Studios in Atlanta.
Expanding on the brutality of their debut, "Tales From Dirt Town" incorporates elements of classic rock shaking up an already schizophrenic sound of heavy riffs and growling to harmonious vocals traded off by the band’s four vocalists. Brutal tracks like “Sellout,” “That Ole Speed”, and “Need A Drink” are met head-on by soaring, almost epic tracks like “Satisfied”, “Savior” and “Home” which will serve as the album’s first single.
In addition to appearing on Gigantour (the band was handpicked by Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine) and a tour with Twizted, and played non-stop gigs around the country over the past 3 years. Bobaflex will again tear up stages with non-stop touring for the remainder of 2007 and all of 2008.
Bobaflex have added a new track titled "Sellout" from their new album 'Tales From Dirt Town' to their MySpace page. A release date for the album has yet to be set.
The bands "Operation Rock Tour" with Egypt Central kicked off last week in Detroit, MI. The remaining tour dates are as follows: More...

Audio samples from the upcoming Gigantour deluxe 2-CD set have been made available at Amazon.com. The 2-CD and 2-DVD sets, due on August 22 and September 5, respectively, via Image Entertainment, capture 2005's heavy metal onslaught that was hailed as the best metal bill of the year, with Revolver magazine calling it "the mother of all shred fests." Organized by MEGADETH frontman Dave Mustaine as a tour featuring "only bands whose musicianship matches their ability to melt faces with sheer volume and power" (Miami Herald), "Gigantour" features unforgettable performances by MEGADETH, DREAM THEATER and FEAR FACTORY as well as ANTHRAX (CD only), NEVERMORE, LIFE OF AGONY, SYMPHONY X, DRY KILL LOGIC and BOBAFLEX.
The "Gigantour" DVD set encompasses a special bonus disc with all the no-holds-barred offstage action: tour bus visits, backstage drama, practical jokes plus interviews with the people who make a national package tour happen, like tour managers, pyrotechnics experts and band members. The "Gigantour" CD contains three songs not included on the DVD. More...
