Latest Vile News
Below is our complete Vile news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Note: We began associating news directly with bands in late 2003. Therefore, earlier band news may not be listed on this page.
California based metal act Vile has checked in with the following announcement about seeking a new guitarist and bassist:
"Vile seeks bassist and lead guitarist for future shows in California and eventually a European tour. Must have extensive band experience, pro gear, etc. Prefer those without edgy or hostile personalities and cigarette smokers are not eligible, sorry.
"Tuning is straight 1/2 step down on 7 string guitar or 5 string bass (starting at Bb). Send private message to Colin Davis on Facebook with links to videos of your live performace and stodio recordings. Tab for Vile songs is available on the web.
"Audition videso are a good idea, but you can make them private if you choose. Guitarists, pick a song from New Age of Chaos with solos to show your solo skills. Cheers."
Californian brutal death metallers Vile have released their long-awaited album "Metamorphosis." Several songs from the album are streaming on the band's MySpace page, as well as video versions on YouTube like this song - "The Revealing." More...
American brutal death metallers Vile have issued the following statement on their Myspace page.
"We just finished recording the vocals for the new Vile album today. Our singer, Mike Hrubovcak flew in from Philadelphia last Saturday and leaves tomorrow after a week of recording.
"As with the drums, the recording sessions were conducted at my Imperial Mastering studio and we have taken all the time necessary to get absolutely perfect results. Its was a real pleasure recording Mike. He came totally prepared and we spent a lot of time with overdubs and production in general. The end result is going to be a really dynamic and original sound.
"Also we spent a lot of time making sure that Mike's performances were appropriate for Vile's sound but also very clear to allow the lyrics to be understood more easily. Since I have taken over lyric writing for the band, I wanted to make sure that the relevant subjects I have been writing about get through to the listener. I think the fans will be really knocked out by Mike's performances when the album is finally released. I believe Mike is one of the worrld's greatest extreme metal singers and I think that most of you will probably agree when you hear what he has done.
"As for me, I am extremely pleased so far. I have really taken total control over all the aspects of the production and when the album is released, it will be obvious that I have done my absolute best to perfect every aspect of the music, lyrics, production and artwork. Its been over three years and I am almost ready to let this baby go.
"We still have to figure out the label situation and all of that, but we are hoping to have the album released at least in a limited way by the fall time with a full world-wide release soon afterwards and we are also starting to plan for a European tour for the spring of 2010. A U.S. tour will follow but we need to make sure its a good one.
"I will stay in touch with you guys and I thank you for your patience and support!
Vile guitarist Colin Davis has checked in with the following studio update:
"Drums are finished. Tyson (Jupin) really shined during his time at the Imperial Mastering studio and we got some really beautiful tracks. His playing is more mature and more polished than ever and we feel really happy about what has been recorded. The next four months will be dedicated to finishing the album which is yet to be titled and will be released sometime during the summer by the band themselves. We feel that if there was ever a time for a band to take control over its own destiny, it is now. The new album will be released by us and we are currently setting up the necessary distribution channels."
Guitarist Colin Davis of the Californian brutal death metallers VILE has posted the following message on the band's MySpace page:
"Two new things for today. One is that we have uploaded a new song to our MySpace page. It's a demo version of a song that will appear on our forthcoming album. As I have stated in a previous blog, our new album will be out most musically diverse album to date. The new song 'Wolf at Your Door' is not our slowest song or our fastest song, but it is quite different from what we have done in the past and it stands as an example of the kind of diversity that will be included in this release."
"The second piece of news is that we are seeking new label representation. We have been very pleased to have worked with both Listenable Records and Unique Leader Records in the past. We appreciate all they have done for us. Unfortunately, things change, artists and labels don't see eye to eye on various issues and parting ways is sometimes inevitable." More...
Colin Davis of the Californian brutal death metallers VILE has posted the following message on the band's MySpace page:
"I have been getting a lot of e-mails asking when the next VILE album will be out. It's been 2.5 years and it's about time. We have typically released an album every three years. And by the time this new one actually comes out, it will probably be right on time!"
"The main reason that we take so much time is my fault. I like to go slow. I like to wait for the old ideas to go away and let them get replaced with new ones. If I go too fast, I am afraid that the albums could be too similar. This is a problem many bands have and I really don't want to get trapped that way. The music changes as life changes and waiting lets the albums each have their own identity and style." More...
Metal Blade Records has announced the signing of Oregon/California death metal band Brain Drill. Formed in the summer of 2005 by Dylan Ruskin (guitars) his next goal was to find a drummer that could actually play death metal and not just claim they could. Dylan ended up recruiting drummer Marco Pitruzzella, former drummer of VITAL REMAINS, VILE, VORNAGAR, ATROCIOUS HYSTERIA, NUMA, and a few other extreme metal bands. After a few months of jamming Steve Rathjen was then later put onto vocals. Rounding out the band is Jeff Hughell on bass who joined the band in the winter of 2006. With mind blowing style and speed, inventing a 10 fingered tapping technique using a 7 string bass, and the song learning capabilities of a genius it was quite obvious he was a perfect fit into this now 4-piece arsenal.
As of now, BRAIN DRILL has shared the stage with bands such as: CANNIBAL CORPSE, DYING FETUS, NECROPHAGIST, JOB FOR A COWBOY, UNMERCIFUL, ALL SHALL PERISH, DECREPIT BIRTH, and very many other extreme metal bands. In addition BRAIN DRILL has come in at number 8 in the top 10 MySpace grindcore band charts in the world and has also come in at number 11 in the top 20 MySpace death metal charts in the world.
“We are blown away to be able to put out our first album ever on Metal Blade records, with label mates like Cannibal Corpse, Job For A Cowboy, Hate Eternal and Cattle Decapitation, and a history of working with bands like Slayer and Metallica. We are ready to make Brian Slagel and everybody at Metal Blade proud. Witness the Brutality!!” Brain Drill
“Alex Webster of Cannibal Corpse came to us and told us we had to check out this band Brain Drill that they had played with at a stop on their most recent tour. As soon as I got to the 2nd song on the EP, I knew this was a band we had to have on our roster. They are amazing, full on, crazy, fast as hell death metal (think Spawn of Possession, Cryptopsy & Vomitory all rolled into one). Welcome to the family, guys!” Metal Blade Records – Jen Graham
Brain Drill is:
LORD MARCO PITRUZZELLA-Drums
STEVE RATHJEN- Vocals
JEFF HUGHELL- Bass
Guitarist Colin Davis of the Californian brutal death metallers VILE has issued a follow-up message elaborating on his previous announcement that the group's forthcoming recorded output "will not focus on death anymore":
"A lot of people messaged about this and I really appreciate the thoughts [everyone has] offered. They make me think and I'm glad [they] are helping me to think this through. But let me add a couple comments that might clarify some things.
"[People] are right about how this music is used as a release. I also find it facinating how this process works differently with each person. And I want to say that I am not thinking that this music should not exist, or its 'brutality' in a musical or sonic sense should lessen. What I am thinking is that this music can evolve into something that still allows people to release angst and negativity, but then actually gives something back. Instead of feeding into a negative field, it should be possible to actually channel this but not build it up higher. I also want to say that most people do not know how powerful they are. They have been purposely misled to believe that they have very little power to effect themselves and others. They have been taught that scholars, doctors, religious leaders or political leaders are more capable people. That we should leave the more important matters to them. And that what they say is real or valid, we should believe.

Guitarist Colin Davis of the Californian brutal death metallers VILE has issued the following update:
"I think that it's time that we all take a good look at what death metal is all about. What is our attraction to this type of music, why do we have it and what influence does it have on us and others?
"Of course, I can only speak for myself, but I think that some of my reasons will resonate with others. For one, I am attracted to the musicianship but also I am attracted to the fact that what we do is rebellious. It's not paid much attention to by the mainstream.
"Why does that matter to me? Well, since I was young I have always felt that there is something wrong with the way people follow what is popular. So in turn, I rebelled against that and devoted my time to something that was shunned. It's a way of expressing personal freedom in a world that is increasingly becoming less able to think and act individually.
"But honestly, I have never been attracted to the gory, bloody aspect of death metal's subject matter. Some of us in this band were indeed attracted to that and VILE has had this included into its personality as a band.

Californian brutal death metallers VILE have posted the following message on their official web site:
"We want to thank all the die-hards that came out to our shows on the Bloodletting North America tour [also featuring DECREPIT BIRTH, DEEDS OF FLESH, and ODIOUS MORTEM]! Some great shows on that tour because of you guys! Also, major thanks goes out to Lance Wright who stepped up to drum for us on this tour. Lance really came through with the speed, stability and groove that VILE is known for. Thank you, Lance! Also, cheers to the cool dudes in all the other bands. It was a pleasure!
"Right now we're writing some new material as well as looking for the best options for more touring. J.J. [Hrubovcak, guitar] and Mike [Hrubovcak, vocals] are getting ready to record their second DIVINE RAPTURE CD. Colin [Davis, guitar] is writing some new VILE material at this moment. Erlend [Caspersen, bass] is probably working on some kind of eight finger tapping or something...Stay tuned."

Reno Killerich (PANZERCHRIST, VILE, HUMAN ERUPT) is strongly rumored to have landed the session-drummer gig in DIMMU BORGIR for the group's upcoming live appearances. The Danish skinsman, who rehearsed with DIMMU on Friday (March 26), is expected to join the band during Ozzfest 2004 as well as for the preceding European and South American dates, according to informed sources. In addition, it has been revealed that legendary drummer Gene Hoglan (STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, DARK ANGEL) has offered his services to the group in the event that DIMMU BORGIR don't find a suitable replacement for Nick Barker, who was unceremoniously "removed" from the band's lineup in January.
Killerich, widely considered to be one of the most skilled speed/grind drummers around, won the title "fastest feet in the world" with more than 800 hits on the pedals in one minute at the NAMM music convention in the U.S., according to published reports.
Cannibal Corpse, Hypocrisy, Decapitated and Vile will be teaming up for a U.S. tour beginning in mid-February.
