Panzer Announces New Members, Releases New Song

German metal act Panzer - featuring bassist/vocalist Schmier (Destruction) and ex-Accept drummer Stefan Schwarzmann - announced a new lineup. Replacing Herman Frank on guitar will be Poltergeist guitarist V.O. Pulver and HammerFall's Pontus Norgren.

"After producing the debut with Panzer, the guys asked me to help them out live to help provide the double axe-attack on stage", recalls V.O. Pulver. "Of course I took the opportunity to rock out with my buddies. And when the chance came up to join them permanently, I didn't hesitate to accept and now I can't wait to play the sound of my youth!"

Pontus Norgren was just as excited to join the heavy metal war machine: "It was not a hard decision when I got asked to join the Panzer project, it was a straight up YES! To be able to create music with good friends is the most important thing in my world and in this band, having fun when making music, is number one. I'm looking forward to all of the craziness that the future is going to bring with these guys. So let's kick some serious...!" More...

Metalunderground.com's Best Of 2014 Awards

What was old is now new again, as much like with Hollywood returning to Star Wars, Jurassic Park, and Terminator, metal heads had a desire for past and present to collide throughout 2014.

This was another year of major reunions and comebacks with the likes of At The Gates, Slipknot, Sanctuary, and Massacre all returning with new material. The long dead Coal Chamber also came back to life, although we won't see an actual release until next year (with varying opinions on to whether that particular resurrection was wanted or needed).

Besides all the blasts from the past, this was a year marked by spectacles in the metal world – some truly unfortunate and others less so. Heavy metal managed to hit the Facebook trending bar and gain exposure to millions when 92 year old actor Christopher Lee released his Metal Knight EP and Christmas single ”Darkest Carols, Faithful Sing.”

Tim Lambesis of As I Lay Dying was finally sentenced after being arrested back in 2013 for attempting to hire a hitman to kill his ex-wife – an act that lead to the creation of Wovenwar, featuring the remaining members of As I Lay Dying as well as a fellow ex-believer from Oh, Sleeper.

This was also the year that included Roadrunner Records botching the release of the first Opeth single from “Pale Communion” and subsequently breaking the Internet. And who could forget Wintersun's infamous rant (perhaps best summarized as “I can't possibly record an album unless its in my own personal studio that someone else has paid for”), which sent a horde of lemming-like fans to send death threats to the Nuclear Blast Facebook page?

Typical metal shenanigans aside, this was actually a solid year for metal overall even past the major reunions. Now moving into 2015, the big question marks are if that Metallica album actually comes out, when Dimmu Borgir is finally going to get around to leaking some new info, and for those of us who have been impatiently waiting since 2012 – when will God Of Atheists finally drop that debut release that we voted most anticipated two years ago?

Before any of those questions come close to getting answers, let's take a look back at what 2014 had to offer for metal fans... More...

Panzer Reveals New Album Details

The German trio Panzer (not to be confused with the Brazilian band) consists of vocalist & bass player Schmier (Destruction, Headhunter), guitarist Herman Frank (Accept, Victory) as well as drummer Stefan Schwarzmann (Accept, ex-Running Wild).

"Send Them All To Hell" will drop November 28th, 2014 and today the band unveils the cover artwork. Commented frontman Schmier:

“The German Panzerwith a fantasy cover? No way! As much as I liked the idea doing something different and less stereotype, it was so much fun to create a real POWERFUL METAL WARMACHINE full of classical clichés.”

The artwork was created by Hungarian artist Gyula Havancsák, who also created the recent artworks for Destruction and Headhunter. “Together with this great and crazy guy, we have visualized the most brutal Panzer ever.” adds Schmier. "You will find a lot of details that you won’t recognize at first sight - hints to our lyrics and stuff that goes deeper than just the first martial impression! We will show you an intense cover trailer that will show all the fine points of this classical metal art that fits perfect with our music very soon!"

The track listing is as follows:

01. Death Knell
02. Hail And Kill
03. Temple Of Doom
04. Panzer
05. Freakshow
06. Mr. Nobrain
07. Why?
08. Virtual Collision

Panzer Signs With Nuclear Blast

Nuclear Blast is thrilled to announce the signing of Teutonic heavy metal trio Panzer (not to be confused with the Brazilian band of the same name).

The new German supergroup is comprised of vocalist & bass-player Schmier, best known as fronter for Destruction, guitarist Herman Frank (Accept), as well as drummer Stefan Schwarzmann (Accept, Ex-Running Wild). “If you are a METALHEAD you will love PANZER, I am 100% sure about it,” vows Schmier.

To celebrate the nearing end of the year with a killer release, the first Panzer onslaught entitled "Send Them All To Hell" will roll down onto European soil on November 28th, 2014.

Commented vocalist Schmier: “When Stefan Schwarzmann, drummer of Accept and an old friend came to me with the idea of putting a band together, I first thought he tried to fool me… hahaha! But the idea sounded amazing from the beginning and after the first meeting with Herman Frank, the German guitar legend, that everybody knows from his work with Accept and Victory and Stefan, we realized really fast, that this team could really kick some serious ass together. And Instead of talking too long about it, we started writing songs right away and within some weeks had half of the album recorded and it sounded wicked! We don t wanna re-invent the metal-wheel. We play the music we love, easy as that and it’s great fun cause we all dig this shit since we are teenagers!"

Naming a band after fierce war machinery might seem a bit off for some, but if you take a look at the lyrics, this is picture perfect. The lyrics provoke, criticize, and are part of the art. “My lyrics criticize... I don't pray,” adds Schmier. More...
