Latest Andrew W.K. News
Below is our complete Andrew W.K. news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Note: We began associating news directly with bands in late 2003. Therefore, earlier band news may not be listed on this page.
California native Andrew W.K. has released his video for "It's Time To Party." Currently residing in New York, NY, the party icon released his latest single off of the "I Get Wet" 10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition, which includes a second disc filled with alternate and live version of Andrew’s original party classics.
Andrew W.K. is best known for his hit single “Party Hard” back in 2001. The song was featured as the lead track in EA Sports in Madden 2003. His other songs, such as “Fun Night” and “She Is Beautiful” were featured in movies such as Old School, Freaky Friday, American Pie: Band Camp, and Out Cold. Andrew W.K. has made multiple appearances on television programs such as MTV, MTV2, VH1, Fox News, and Cartoon Network.
Andrew W.K. also has a handful of shows for the remainder of the month. Dates are as follows:
September 23, 2012 – Gexa Energy Pavilion – Dallas, TX
September 28, 2012 – Canterlot Gardens at The Holiday Inn – Strongsville, OH More...
Following the unveiling of the packaging and track listing of the "I Get Wet" 10th Anniversary deluxe edition last week, Andrew W.K. has given details of a super limited 500 double-disc autographed edition.
In addition to a special autographed 20-page booklet that accompanies the two discs, the 500 double-CD copies will include very unique personal items from the party king himself. These items, inserted at random, may include a piece of Andrew W.K.'s own personal, stage-worn and filthy white Levi's 501 jeans that were cut into 496 pieces. Three of the remaining limited packages will contain a lock of W.K.'s unwashed hair, while one lucky purchaser will receive an autographed airplane ticket stub that W.K. used to fly from Prague to New York City. Out of consideration for the recipients of his dirty jeans and hair, a Bloody Nose Air-Freshener will be included in all packages to help with any potential odors contained in the CD case.
"I wanted to give a piece of myself and this party to everyone who got one of these limited editions," explains W.K. "Originally, I had wanted to include used tissues and one of my hangnails, but I was told that international customs doesn't allow sending human flesh or bodily fluids in music packaging. So I decided to give the party people my dirty white jeans and hair instead. My jeans and hair give me party power-kind of like Dumbo's magic feather. They're blessed with the power of positive partying, and I hope that these objects bring even more magical partying to anyone who possesses them." More...
The organisers of the British leg of the Sonisphere festival have announced that they have had to cancel this years event, which was set to feature headline performances from KISS, Faith No More and Queen + Adam Lambert, amongst others. The statement from the organisers reads as follows:
"It is with very heavy hearts and much regret that we announce the cancellation of Sonisphere Knebworth 2012.
"Putting the festival together in what is proving to be a very challenging year was more difficult than we anticipated and we have spent the last few months fighting hard to keep Sonisphere in the calendar. Unfortunately circumstances have dictated that we would be unable to run the festival to a standard that both the artists and that Sonisphere’s audience would rightly expect. More...

Additionally, Mike IX, the host of this special event, will also read passages from his latest book, Cancer as a Social Activity.
Happy Hallmark card day everyone! Whether you're spending today with your loved one or your right hand, there's no denying that romance will be all around you today. Turn on the radio and you're likely to hear Lionel Richie's "Hello" or some other such soppy rubbish which you'll be told all day is a "classic." So why should we at Metal Undergound.com be any different? While there's never been one countdown that everyone agrees with, I'm going to take you through ten hard rock and heavy metal songs that I feel express the positive side to this strange phenomenon we call love.
For the opposite side of the spectrum, you can also check out our ode to anti-love metal as well.
10. Anal Cunt - "In My Heart There's A Star Named After You"
Yes you read that right correctly, the first song in our countdown is by the masters of offensive grindcore, Anal Cunt. You wouldn’t expect the band that wrote, "I Pushed Your Wife In Front Of The Subway" and "Women: Nature’s Punching Bag" to be included here, but the band actually wrote a whole album dedicated to the subject of love, albeit a very tongue in cheek one. Here’s the last song from the "Picnic Of Love" album, "In My Heart There’s A Star Named After You." It may seem a little silly to include in this list, but isn't love a silly old thing in the end?
9. KISS - "I'll Fight Heaven To Hold You"
We don’t want to overload this countdown with soppy ballads that belong is bad 1980s movies, so we’ll be leaving "Beth" way out of this. Instead, here’s a love song by KISS that covers all the usual topics traditionally found in ballads, but rocks hard. KISS have never been afraid to talk about love (as well as what Gene Simmons considers love, let's not mention "Lick It Up" here,) and more often than not, they could really pull off a great love song, which they've definitely done here, though not in the traditional way. From the "Crazy, Crazy Nights" album, this is "I’ll Fight Hell To Hold You."

After three years, ANDREW W.K. fans can finally experience the "lost" third album from the party rocker. Previously released in Japan and Korea in 2006, "Close Calls with Brick Walls" will officially become available in the United States on March 23rd, 2010, being released by STEEV MIKE, as a special two album package (the original "Close Calls with Brick Walls" on one disc, and an additional CD called "Mother of Mankind," containing rare and unreleased material).
"Close Calls with Brick Walls" was recorded in multiple sessions throughout 2004 and 2005, using the full Andrew W.K. touring band for the first time. With a full instrumental band, the new album includes exciting new performances, styles, and rhythms. The lyrics are more complex although still very playful, and Andrew’s voice has grown into something much more distinct and expressive.
Since the initial 2006 release of "Close Calls with Brick Walls," Andrew’s career has moved in all sorts of surprising directions. He did a lot of things that were unexpected, yet offered little in the way of explanation for behavior that, on one level, seemed quite natural and, on another, entirely unnatural. Instead of promoting and touring the album in the U.S., he went on a lecture tour as an inspirational new-age motivational speaker. He cut his hair. It grew back. He stepped out of his dirty whites and into a tailored suit to model for gentleman’s magazines like Esquire and V-Man, he produced a Grammy-nominated album for reggae artist, Lee "Scratch" Perry, opened a night club in New York (Santos Party House) and became the host of the Cartoon Network game show, Destroy Build Destroy. He recorded a solo piano album and went on tour with a classical string quartet.
Quite a few bands have been announced already for this year's Vans Warped Tour, which is to take place June 24 through August 15, 2010. Of note to the metal and 'core crowd are: Alesana, Andrew W.K., Bring Me The Horizon, Dillinger Escape Plan, Emmure, Every Time I Die, Eyes Set To Kill, Green Jelly, Haste The Day, In Fear and Faith, iwrestledabearonce, Parkway Drive, Set Your Goals, Suicide Silence, and Whitechapel. You can check out the latest lineup here (more bands to be announced).

Shadows Fall's "Destroyer of Senses" and Stampin' Ground's "Don't Need A Reason to Hate" will be used in the new Eidos video game, entitled "Backyard Wrestling 2: There Goes The Neighborhood". The game will launch on October 12. In addition, music videos from both bands will appear on two promotional/collectors' items for the game put out by Eidos. The details are as follows:
01. Collectors' DVD: Stampin' Ground's "Bear the Scars" and Shadows Fall's "Destroyer of Senses" appear on the exclusive Collector's DVD sold exclusively at EB Games or GameStop. The Collector's DVD is a gift-with-purchase to customers who pre-purchase the game before launch. The Collector's DVD packs in full circle entertainment with amazing wrestling matches, behind-the-scenes interviews, Tera Patrick bonus footage, and, of course, Stampin' Ground and Shadows Fall.
02. Best Buy Bonus Disc: Secondly, a second disc featuring brand new Shadows Fall video, "The Power of I And I", will contain completely different wrestling footage and interviews. This Best Buy Bonus Disc is exclusively available through Best Buy and will be packed into both the PS2 and XBOX versions purchased at that store. The Bonus Disc highlights the stars of Backyard Wrestling — Shadows Fall, Andrew W.K. and Insane Clown Posse — not to mention the mastermind behind the game, Kevin Gill, and the real deal behind the Backyard Wrestling phenomenon.
Legendary Florida death metallers OBITUARY are in the process of reforming with a view towards releasing a new CD in late 2004 or early 2005. "[Drummer] Donald [Tardy], [guitarist] Allen [West] and I have been working on some new stuff and are thinking about a new album," singer John Tardy told BLABBERMOUTH.NET. "We are just getting started and I know [Donald] has talked to [ex-OBITUARY guitarist] Trevor [Peres] about it, too. Right now we have no timeline or record deal set up, but we are writing songs. If all goes well, [the reunion] would be with all 'original' members [John, Donald, Allen, Trevor and bassist Frank Watkins]."
Although the reformed OBITUARY would likely perform select live shows before and after the recording of a new studio album, there is no truth to the reports that the band will make an appearance at the Sun N' Steel festival in Tampa in early March. "I don't know anything about a Sun N' Steel show...never heard of it," John said.
Formed in 1984 as EXECUTIONER (later shortened to XECUTIONER), OBITUARY are widely considered to be one of the most influential and groundbreaking bands in the death metal genre. After releasing several successful albums in the late Eighties/early Nineties (including the classic 1989 debut "Slowly We Rot" and its equally punishing 1990 follow-up, "Cause of Death"), the band announced their breakup, with John Tardy's disinterest in touring apparently a major factor, according to the Internet heavy metal encyclopedia BNR Metal Pages. Trevor Peres has since started CATASTROPHIC, while Donald Tardy joined Andrew W.K.'s band some time ago.
Andrew W.K. drove head-on into two parked cars while filming an episode of his new television series Friday (Jan. 16). The full-speed crash resulted in a three car pile-up. No one in or near the accident was injured, and Andrew W.K. himself is also unharmed. However, all three of the cars are completely totalled. Andrew recalls: "I don't know what happened — it was like a total psychological black out and I didn't even exist, and then next thing you know, BAM! I completely smashed up all these cars!" A police report was recorded and Andrew was sent on his way to continue filming the rest of the T.V. show. No criminal charges have been filed.
ANDREW W.K. recently stopped by Playboy's Chicago photo studios to take pictures of a nude female model for the magazine's online edition. "It was really insane and amazingly weird", said Andrew, "Taking pictures like that was one of the craziest things I've ever gotten to do, for sure!"
"My mom is a photographer," W.K. explained. "She had a darkroom in our house, and I got a camera that was just like hers. When I moved to New York, I shot some models for their portfolios. I was 19, and I totally felt like I was getting away with something." How does snapping for Playboy compare? "It's a bit like a surreal dream," he admitted. "In three days I'm going to [smacks his head] and say 'Whoa! Did I really do that?'" Check out the results of Andrew's photo session here (nudity included!).
Andrew W.K. has been asked by MTV2 to host his own show. According to the singer, "Originally I had so many ideas and plans that I could barely think. I mean, my own TV show? I can do anything I want! WOW! At first I wanted to do something really planned out — something more in a studio where the focus was super singular, but then after thinking about it more, I realized that I just wanted to talk and hang out with people. I thought it would be much better if the show wasn't only about me, but about all the awesome people that are part of what we're doing and part of the world. You know? It's going to be a show where anybody can have the chance to be on, and we'll just do stuff. My main idea with that is to solve problems, or give advice and help. You know? All I'm really thinking is that I want it to be OUR thing, not just a show where you watch this one guy do everything, but a show where you can watch your friends and people do cool stuff and work on basic things. Someone can write in to us, and if choose them we'll go to their house and hang out and talk about their life and their family and school and problems and good stuff and bad stuff... whatever. We'll go to people's work and help them out on the job and see what they're doing and how they make it happen. You'll see! All I know is that it's going to be awesome... and it's up to you to make it really great! Together we will do this, and we will do it all the way!
"Anyway, we're not exactly sure when the show starts, but we're going to start filming it right away this December and January 2003-2004. We have a lot of stuff to film, so we'll be working on it for a while. It's right in the beginning, but it will race forward before we even know it. Just keep your eyes wide and bloodshot with a fresh water drop and look at the information that comes from where it counts!"
