Latest Vreid News
Below is our complete Vreid news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Note: We began associating news directly with bands in late 2003. Therefore, earlier band news may not be listed on this page.
Vried is booked on the main stage at the Oslo Live festival by the Akershus Fortress in Oslo, Norway on July 3rd. The band will also be playing Wacken, Summer Breeze, Brutal Assault and Zwarte Cross this summer.
Norway's Vreid has been added to the Waken Open Air 2009 lineup. The festival will take place from July 30 - August 1 in Wacken, Germany.
The other confirmed bands for the festival include: AMON AMARTH, BORKNAGAR, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, CALLEJON, CATHEDRAL, DRAGONFORCE, EINHERJER, EPICA, GWAR, HAMMERFALL, HEAVEN AND HELL, IN EXTREMO, IN FLAMES, KAMPFAR, KINGDOM OF SORROW, KORPIKLAANI, LACUNA COIL, MACHINE HEAD, MOTÖRHEAD, NAPALM DEATH, NEVERMORE, AXEL RUDI PELL, SARKE, TESTAMENT, TRISTANIA, TURISAS, WALLS OF JERICHO, WHIPLASH
Vried will be joining Pestilence on their European tour in April. Hváll of Vreid commented on this development:
"Pestilence is one of those dinosaurs that will never die. They have been away for 15 years, but are now back stronger than ever. Back in the early 90’s Pestilence, Death and Carcass were top notch in my book, and songs like ‘Out of the Body’, ‘Twisted Truth’ and ‘Parracide’ are timeless classics. Some weeks ago we were asked to join the Pestilence reunion European tour as special guests – this is a great honour for us.
"We have just finished a tremendous European tour with Kampfar and Iskald. We did not know what to expect as this was a headliner tour, but the response was amazing. The venues were crowded, the audience gave us killer feedback, and the shows in London, Paris and Bischofswerda were some of the highlights. The new songs were working out very well live, and the live set these days is without doubt the strongest set ever.
"The Skogstur was the first part of the Milorg tour 09. The second part will start at the Inferno festival in Oslo, and from there we go to London with Pestilence. The Pestilence tour will once again bring us to the great rock cities of Paris and London, as well as new venues in Germany, Holland, Belgium, Austria, Italy and Switzerland.
Here are the tour dates featuring Vreid with Pestilence: More...

Vreid has posted the first song from their upcoming new album, "Milorg" on their MySpace page. Here is an update from the band:
"It is with great proud we reveal the first track of the upcoming VREID album 'MILORG' out on Jan 5th in Norway and Jan 19th in the rest of Europe. The new track 'Speak Goddamnit' perfectly displays the great progression of the band, incorporating both the classic black'n roll expression and the newfound progressive melodic aspect. The first reviews have already come in with a 13/15 in German magazine LEGACY and a 4th place in soundcheck in the same magazine. Norwegian magazine SCREAM also gave the album an impressive 5/6 and Terrorizer Magazine says:
"'Without straying too far from their Windir template of scathing pagan black metal, warmongers Vreid surge forth with yet more blistering blackened fury. Metal with military precision, Vreid are the true battle metallers.'"
The album will be avaliable on both CD and vinyl.
Vreid has announced a European tour as well as released artwork and song titles for their new album, "Milorg." Here's what the band had to say about it:

Berlin was also the place where Milorg was presented for European press, music industry and fans at the Popkomm festival. Vreid played a concert at the Indie Recordings label night on October the 9th at K17. There they also presented the two new songs “Speak Goddamnitt” and “Blúcher” live for the first time for a raving audience. The songs were also presented at the Norwegian Motstøy Festival in Notodden the following weekend. Eternal Terror Magazine reported that the band sounded tight and flawless.

"Just want to thank the organizer and the audience at Party San for a fantastic experience. The festival was brilliant, and playing in front of 9000 dedicated persons gave us one hell of a kick. Check out some pictures from the show at our myspace.
"We will return to Germany quite soon. On October the 9th we will play at K17 in Berlin. On this Indie recordings labelnight show we will be joined by our friends in Enslaved, Audrey Horne, Stonegard and Mencea. www.k17.de This show is a part of the Popkomm festival, Europe's main music trade festival www.popkomm.de
"Besides that we are confirmed for the Motstoy festival in Notodden 2 days later. www.motstoy.com We are also considering a couple of other shows for 2008, and unfortunaly we have had to say no to several other shows, as our main focus these days is to finish up the new album. But we can assure you that Vreid will be doing a lot of shows in 2009.
"The recordings of the new album are more or less finished. We will continue the mixing during August/September, and we are currently trying out different mastering studios for the album. Things are going really well, and we can't wait to unleash the album in early 2009. Black, Heavy & Atmospheric are the keywords.
"The title of the album has been ready for a while; so we might as well reveal it. The new album will be entitled 'MILORG.' So those of you that know your WW2 history will understand that we continue to pay tribute to the Norwegian resistance during this period. 'Milorg' is the title of one of the songs on the album, while Alarm & Blücher is among the others.
"Allright, hope to see you at the shows this autumn, and we will be feeding you with samples, artwork, song titles etc during the autumn."
Norwegian black metallers VREID check in with the following update:
"Good new year to everyone.
2007 was a fantastic year for Vreid. In the spring we released I Krig, our 3rd album. The response from fans, media and other interested was amazing, and judging from sales, I Krig is our greatest success so far. We sure enjoyed doing our first US show at the Heathen Crusade festival, and the Ragnarok festival in March in front of 3500 people was fantastic. During the year we also got great response at Metal camp in Slovenia, and 3 great Norwegian festivals; Hits, Metal Heart and Støy.
Nevertheless the highlight of 2007 was the Winter Europe tour with MARDUK and UNLEASHED. Those two bands proved every night why they are living legends of the metal scene. Horns up to our Swedish comrades. The tour was perfectly organized courtesy of the professional Massive Music and their crew. The tour visited 13 countries, and more than 10000 people attended these shows. We would like to say thanks and hail to all those who came to the show and supported us, you made these shows atmospheric and fantastic for us. See you again soon. Check out our tour report at our MySpace page, if you are interested in reading more about the tour.
2008 will be another productive year for Vreid: four festivals have already been confirmed In March we will return to the Ragnarok festival in Lichtenfels, Germany. The audience was brilliant last year, so we sure are looking forward to this one. On the 25th we are doing our first show in Haugesund, Norway. We will play the annual Karmøygeddon festival with bands like KREATOR, TAAKE and FINNTROLL, to name a few. July 18th we are doing our first outdoor show in Austria, playing at the Kaltenbach festival, located in the beautiful countryside of Austria. In August we are proud to announce that we will play at the legendary Party San festival in Germany, other bands confirmed are; OBITUARY, IMPALED NAZARENE, BEHEMOTH, KAMPFAR. More shows will be added as we get them confirmed.
We have also started working on album number four. Some ideas have been recorded, and the frames for six-seven songs are ready. We will continue working on the new material during the winter, and hopefully we will start the recordings during the summer. Our plan is an early 2009 release, but we will let you know as things develop. My impression so far is that this will a blacker and more atmospheric album, but it will definitively be build on the foundation that we have made with our previous three albums."

VREID, the Norwegian band formed by former WINDIR members Hváll (bass), Steingrim (drums) and Sture (vocals, guitar), has issued the following update:
"First of all, a big salute to everyone who attended to the shows at the European tour. You made this tour splendid for VREID. A special hail to the audience of London, Tilburg, Paris, Berlin and Maribor. Dedication, intensity and havoc were much appreciated.
"The tour went really smooth thanks to our travel comp(onions), and drinking brothers of ENSLAVED, a great crew, and last but not least the fact that we got to do the bigger parts of the tour in our own excellent double nightliner! A good night/day sleep can not be underestimated while touring. The fact that we also got to expand the cultural, rural, food and drinking horizon of our stubborn Norwegian farm minds were also very satisfactory. Visit at the Louvre, barbeque in the beautiful landscapes of Slovenia, the impressive road taverns (courtesy of our infamous driver; the Wolfman), walkabout in the historical jungle of Berlin, Oktoberfest in Munich and the majestic sights of Budapest made this a fulfilling tour in every way.
"Since the last tour we saw that there is rapidly growing fan base for VREID out there. This is of course inspiring and satisfactory for us. But let us not stop there, the planning for 2007 shows have started, and some shows has already been booked for Germany and a first visit to the U.S. To make sure VREID will play near you or at you favorite festival, let the bookers know you want VREID by sending them e-mails or telling so at their forums, this does indeed make a difference!!
"During the summer we decided we wanted to work with a new label for the release of the third album. Since the word came out the interest has been tremendous. We have used the autumn to look at different options, and we hope to announce our new label partner within the next weeks.
"The recording of the next album will actually start real soon, and we promise to keep you updated on the new album, label, concerts etc."
VREID's latest album, "Pitch Black Brigade", was released in Europe in April via Tabu Records (Candlelight Records in the U.S.). The CD was recorded at studio 1184 and was mixed at Subsonic Society with Lars Klokkerhaug.
The second anual Heathen Crusade music festival has been announced. The festival will take place at the Quest Night Club in Minneapolis, MN on Saturday, January 20, 2007. The festival is an 18 and older event. Confirmed bands are as follows:
Will of the Ancients
Hordes of Yore
More info and updates are available at the festival's website, http://www.heathencrusade.com/hc2/index2.htm
VREID, the new Norwegian band formed by former WINDIR members Hváll (bass), Steingrim (drums) and Sture (vocals, guitar), have posted the following message on their official web site:
"We have been working in our dungeon (studio 1184) with our second album since September. The recordings were finished by late November, and we have now been mixing the album for a couple of weeks. The mixing of the album was done at Subsonic Society studio together with Lars Klokkerhaug. Working with Lars was a pleasure as always. We feel that we have really found the formula and the right sound for this album; raw, powerful and grooving as hell. The last step of the process is the mastering of the album. On the 20th of January we will go to Tailor Maid studio in Stockholm and put the last make up on this beast. Release is set [for] March 27, 2006 through Tabu Records and worldwide distribution by Candlelight Records."
Entitled "Pitch Black Brigade", the album will contain the following eight songs:
01. Då Draumen Rakna
02. Pitch Black
03. Left To Hate
04. The Red Smell
06. Our Battle
07. Hang 'Em All
08. Eit Kapitell For Seg Sjølv
Commented Hváll: "I am very satisfied with the album. I sincerely think this is the best album I have ever been working on. It is a continuance of 'Kraft', but yet rawer, far more rocking and more epic than ever before. Lyrically, the album is inspired by a lot of the brutal and grim historical events from the last centuary. Science-fiction seems bleak compared to the ugly history of our ancestors.
"We will also be making a video for the song 'Pitch Black'. The recording for this video will take place in January, and the video should be available at the same time as the release of the album.
"We hope to play as much live as possible after the release of 'Pitch Black Brigade', and we have already started the process of booking concerts. If you want to watch VREID live this year, make sure that you tell your local concert/festival management so. Spread the word and we'll be coming to a scene near you soon. All booking related questions can be send to firstname.lastname@example.org."
VREID, the new Norwegian band formed by former WINDIR members Hváll (bass), Steingrim (drums) and Sture (vocals, guitar), will enter Hváll's Studio 1184 during the summer to begin recording their second album, tentatively due before the end of the year via Tabu Recordings. VREID will also be recording a couple of cover songs within the next few weeks for possible use on as-yet-undisclosed tribute albums. More information will be made available soon.
In other news, VREID have been confirmed for the Motstøy festival, set to take place September 3 in Notodden, Norway. Also scheduled to perform at the festival are THULSA DOOM, MYRKSKOG, GRIFFIN, PAIN OF SALVATION and THE CUMSHOTS, among others.
VREID's debut CD, "Kraft", was recorded Studio 1184 and was mixed at Subsonic Society Studio (SUSPERIA, WINDIR, RED HARVEST, DARKTHRONE) in Oslo.
VREID's music is being described as a continuation of the sound and style Hváll had created with WINDIR and ULCUS, but with "its own personal sound — a mixture of the ambience of WINDIR, the rawness of Norwegian black metal and the rocking groove of MOTÖRHEAD." Rounding out VREID's lineup is a guitarist named Ese — a close friend of the VREID members for years, and co-engineer on WINDIR's "Likferd" album.
According to organisers, MANTAS and NECROPHAGIST have cancelled their shows at the Inferno Festival "due to health issues within the band and close family." Their replacements are NATTEFROST and HATESPHERE. The Inferno Festival is held March 24th-26th in the two room venue known as John Dee's and Rockefeller in Oslo, Norway. The bands alternate stages, between the balconied upstairs room (capable of holding a couple thousand people), to the smaller, downstairs John Dee, limited to a few hundred.

Norwegian band VREID, formed by ex- members of WINDIR, are currently touring Europe with Enslaved and have issued their first tour report:
After a horrible start with the ultimate shitty tour-bus, things got better when we got a new luxurious night-liner after the show in Rosenheim. Our new bus driver Tony Adams provided us with the best facilities since we left Norway.
Unfortunately all of Vreid got serious ill sleeping in the infested bus the so called Vikings Enslaved provided. But as soon as the stereo farting of Seg-Cato and Fet-Grutle from Poland had reached its climax the conditions were so horrific that a new bus had to be required.More...
